1. Not too often, but that's why professional preparers check each othes' work..... to eliminate the possibility a mistake will go through.
2. Quite often. Most tax preparers are seasonal workers who are not true tax professionals. Remember, if your tax preparer makes a mistake, the IRS goes after you, not your preparer. And it's you that will pay the penalty and carry a black mark with the IRS. Like many things else, it's better to take the time to learn about your own tax situation. You can still use a preparer, but at least you will know what to look for.
