how much revenue did the us government make from personal income taxes last year?
also, what is an estimate of how many people paid personal income taxes? i am trying to figure out how much each person would have to pay if it was a fixed number. that can't be right. for each return, it averages to just over $9 per individual.

- The IRS published numbers for their tax collection. For 2006, the amount collected from individual returns was: $1,236,259,371 Individual returns filed in 2006 were: 133,917,068 I hope that helps.
- Would you include children? Would you tax the sick and old the same as a billionaire?
- Michael left out that the total amount collected is in thousands of dollars while the total number of returns is correct. Total collected for 2006 (correct): $1,236,259,371,000 Individual returns filed in 2006 were: 133,917,068 So, the total paid is $9,231 per tax return. You must remember that married couples and families can file a single return.
