Checks and Balances- Judicial, Legislative, Executive whos being checked/whos checking?
I'm struggling with this part of my American Government and I have a list of examples here...can you tell he who the checker is and whos getting checked so I have a better idea? President George Gumm appoints Cheryl Cherrystone as the ambassador to the newly formed nation of Gumball. Ms. Cherrystone's appointment has been approved by the U.S. Senate. Govenor Grunch vetoes the state legislature's bill, which would give each citizen in the state a ten percent reduction in their state income tax. President Phillip Pepper, a conservative, nominates Judge Jane Jugg to be the next Cheif Justice of the Supreme Court, creating a conservative majority on the bench. Cheif Justice Thomas Tightwad declares the school funding plan of the state, as passed by state legislature, to be unconstitutional. Judge Hernando hardline is approved as a feeral judge for the Fifth District Court of the State of Texas.

- 1. The Senate (legislative) checks the power of the President (executive) 2. Gov. Grunch checks the power of the state legislature. 3. President checks the power of the Supreme Court (judicial), although that one is debatable. 4. Cheif Justice checks legislature. 5. Same as number 3, also debatable.
- OK, yea I see where you are going. The problem with the last administration is the checks and balances were almost eliminated, allowing unfettered minupulation and corruption that brought us two wars and the katrina'ing of the people. Here is how it broke down. The supremes allowed partisanship to select the prez The administration used the threat of immediate annihilation to get us into two wars. The dems allowed the threat of being branded as unpatriotic by the majority not to fight back. The press printed word for word the words of the government while burying the opposition in the story or the paper. The press is really the last check in our check and balance system. Our founding fathers had that in mind when freedom of the press was granted, so that run away government can't happen. Problem, today the press is owned by only a few media giants. The press is skewed in favor of the government. The press will claim they are fair and balanced, which is only marginally true. The reason is simple. Most people get their news by headlines, then followed by a much small percentage by the first three paragraphs, then followed by a very small percentage that read the whole story. Thus, the opposition, being buried in the story rarely gets read. That is why Kerry was swift boated out of the presidency by smear politics. The only reason it didn't happen this time around is the dems learned from the repugs playbook and hit them back with every repug and partisan smear to get the headlines taken away from them. It worked and I suspect it will work this time around. Peace Jim .
