Is Texas a nice place to live? (Answer especially if you live or have ever lived in Texas. Thanks!)?

I've been to Texas and really liked it, particularly Galveston, Austin, San Antonio, and Ft. Worth. The people were friendly, weather was hot (of course), there is a diversity in geography and landscapes, the culture and history are rich, and it's really clean. I hope my impressions of the state are correct, because I really want to move there from Kentucky. Which areas of Texas would be the best to live in? I'm not a huge fan of Dallas and Harris Counties, but perhaps I can be swayed with a lot of convincing. Other places in Texas seem just wonderful. Oh, and not to mention, there's no state income tax (although it is made up in sales and property taxes, which still are comparable to Kentucky.) I'm a nice, friendly, polite, outgoing guy; while there are nice and not-so-nice people everywhere, I think I'd get along pretty well in Texas. By the way, to anybody from NYC, California, Ohio, or New Jersey: I ain't moving there, FYI.

1. I have lived in Abilene for 19 years, and enjoy life here. You should check it out first, though. San Antonio is a great city, and I also like Corpus Christi and Ft. Worth.
2. I lived in Abilene Texas (near Ft. Worth) and i thought it was great! The people were nice, and there were good schools too. The weather wasn't to bad, it snowed every winter. It was wonderful.

4. I live in Texas, and it is a great place. San Antonio has the most culture, and the BEST Mexican food EVER! But people that live in San Antonio don't go to the places you would think they did. Such as the Alamo, the Missions, etc..that's mostly for field trips and tourists. If you plan on living in San Antonio or Texas, be prepared to gain more weight than you ever have. Local places here are the best (as they are anywhere) but bring a swimsuit and shorts because we are having a SCORCHER here right now. Hope I helped.
5. I lived in Texas my whole life up to a year ago, I LOVE it. The perfect place would have to be Harlingen or around that area it is like paradise. You get all the perks of a big city without the awful traffic, 1/2 hour from South Padre Island (yes Spring Break) and 1/2 hour from Mexico. I lived several places and that was the best.
6. I lived outsite of Fort Hood during the early 70's. It was a great place to live. The people were really nice and I enjoyed the weather coming from central Indiana. I think, depending on your age, that Austin would be a great place to live. It is a college town! I cannot beleive you want to leave KY! I think Kentucky is some of the most beautiful country in the USA. But I do understand wanting to move on to greener pastures. I wish you good luck and hope you find what you are looking for in the great state of TX.
7. I love Dallas (I live there now) because it has a little bit of everything in it... Houston is terrible... don't live there at all... I would highly recommend checking out San Marcos which is about 45 min. south of Austin and bout the same North of San Antonio... it has great places to swim and tube with the guadalupe river and the comal close by and Schiltterbahn and Six Flags Fiesta World or something like is that not too far away... The clubbing scene down 6th street in Austin is one of the greatest in the nation... I could go on, but I don't know what you are looking for... Texas is a place for everyone :)
8. Austin has liberal tendencies, but the Austin night-life is a good life, lots of college students! San Antonio for Texas History, but you probably won't see too much of it if you live there VERY rich hispanic culture in San Antonio Houston can get VERY muggy but is on the coast bad traffic, often crowded, etc. doubt you would like it, but you never know Corpus is good! close to Padre Island, good seafood, but it IS on the coast so hurricanes, storms, whatever I don't think you should move to texas if you don't like Mexican food or the heat... I live in dallas & it's OK Dallas if you are working for a major company in texas probably VERY buisness-centered i suppose best community in Dallas (although most expensive) is probably Highland Park/University Park, I dunno kind of materialistic community Laredo is VERY bad if you can't take the heat (same for El Paso & Harlingen) East texas has some very nice scenery, but is mostly TINY towns West texas tends toward a desert environment (BUT THE OIL!!!) Fredricksburg in the hillcountry is VERY pretty, but the area is mostly small-towns, of course
9. I live about 45 miles from Abilene, Tx. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter AND WINDY! We've got wind turbines everywhere! For the most part people are friendly and there is stuff to do around here. I would avoid Dallas and maybe consider a smaller city.
10. I plan to move to S.A. in the not too distant future. Austin is cool. Houston is icky.
11. My husband & I moved to the Hill Country (1 hour NW of Austin) & in my opinion, this is the most beautiful place to live, work, & play!! We came here from N. Michigan & never looked back! Although, I can't give much in detail as to which places are better than others, I can say that Texas is a great state!
12. My brother lives down there, so I visit quite often. All I can say is that it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. However, if I did move to Texas, it would be to the Waco area, or Corpus Christi. Corpus is pretty nice, and the ocean is really close. I would choose Waco, cuz that's where my brother lives.
13. I live in North East Texas and I love it. Probably one of the fastest growing cities around is Tyler, Tx. (check it out) personally, I'm a country bumpkin. I was raised in San Francisco and I prefer the pace, peace and tranquility of small town or country living.
14. I stay right outside of Houston. It is nice. I don't have to drive very far to go do something or to my job. The only thing I don't like is that it is hot as hell.

17. Oh my gosh- YES! I'd suggest Tarrant County Texas- just know that Southlake is like Beverly Hills, CA - wouldn't recommend THAT town! Suburbs of Ft. Worth like Roanoke, Haslet, .... wonderful people! If you're single, Dallas or Ft. Worth proper are actually "happening" BUT, must tell you! Some of the Dallas women are high maintenance as they say. You want to stick to a smaller town and most definitely recommend connecting with a church- great way to meet people and most folks I came in contact with made Sunday church as a normal part o their week. 20. Hey! I live in Oklahoma, but visit Texas a lot. I shoulda beena Texan... I LOVE Texas. I visit Dallas quite often, & although it is a very big city & is constantly busy, I wouldn't mind living there. Everytime I visit Dallas I stay in Addison. It's great. Nice people, smaller town, but there is lots to do there. Ft. Worth is great. McKinney is small but I have a friend who stays there & he likes it. Houston would be a definate NO! Traffic is WAY too bad & it's so humid. I plan to move to Texas sometime in the future, maybe the next 5 years or so. 27. I am from California originally, However I would never suggest you move their. I moved from Cali to Montana when I was young and when I went back to visit for the summer I got freaked out cause across from my sisters apartment they were dusting for fingerprints for a homicide... I think if you want to move to Florida go for it - you can always look on the Internet for job openings as well as call and get a newspaper from just about any area sent to you here in Ky. Maybe find an area that suits what you are into IE job, hobbies, and so on. I thought it was funny in one of the comments was said liking the heat and Mexican food is a must. cause I am in Ky now and not much Mexican food here but the humidity is almost unbearable for me. 29. If you move to the burbs, Dallas is cool.... there is just everything to do and lots of neat people to meet. AS long as you live near a swimming pool and have a/c, the heat is not that bad. Seriously, and I'm a native from the Pac. NW!!! I love it here! If I wasn't in the burbs of Dallas, I'd move to Austin in a heartbeat (that town rocks). Real estate prices are still great here and the cost of living is so much better than either of the coasts. :)

Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live! in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshiper. June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here. July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected. July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body). Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. July 20th: I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had died and had swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000 leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like Kibbles and poops. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. July 25th: The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is not working and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. July 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. $1,500 in darn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here? Aug. 4th: It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85, but this freaking humidity makes the house feel like it's about 95. Stupid repairman. I hate this stupid city. Aug. 8th: If another wise a$$ asks - - - "Hot enough for you today?" - - I'm going to strangle him. Darn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!! Aug. 9th: Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my a$$ was on fire. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and a$$. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried a$$, and baked cat. Aug. 10th: The weather report might as well be a recording. Hot, humid and sunny. Hot, humid and sunny. Hot, humid and sunny. It's been too hot to do crap for 2 darn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this darn desert? Water rationing now, so my $1700 worth of cactus just dried up and blew into the darn pool. Even the cactus can't live in this darn heat. Aug. 14th: Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 115 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" I had to use my $1500 house payment to bail myself out of jail. FREAKING TEXAS What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?
31. My husband is from Houston, TX...and we plan on moving back there after he retires from the Marine Corp. His entire family resides there, and it is beautiful and lush out there. I recommend it!
32. Yes texas is a wonderful place to live because of the water parks and the schools especially in san antonio texas the people are very friendly and its very humid in texas particular in deep south texas like south Padre island!!!!!!!
33. I live in a small town outside of dallas. the cost of living is low and driving into dallas or ft worth is easy if i need to go into a big city.
