income taxes help

Red State vs. Blue State?

What are your thoughts, feelings or perosnal experiences between the two? I just moved to Louisiana from Texas - here is a breakdown of what I have discovered in my few weeks here. In Texas we had no state income tax - In Louisiana we do In Texas there is a flat sales tax on non-necessity items, there is no tax on necesseties (food items) - in Lousiana after looking at my receipts on purchases I have discovered three different sales tax rates, so far, (including food items). In Texas you pay sales tax on your vehicle then when you register it, you pay a flat fee for the registration, - in LA, you pay your sales tax, THEN you pay a percentage of the value of the vehicle ($$$) on for "road use tax" along with other fees when you register your car (we all know how "wonderful" LA roads are) Just my personal experiences so far. If I had known about the tax to death government of LA, I would have never taken the job that required me to move here

  1. Try MA! Or, "Taxachusetts" as it is sometimes called.
  2. think of the state income as a little savings account that you'll withdraw from once a year.
  3. Democrat state!!! How many democrat politicians do you know that don't like taxes. They can think of a tax for just about any reason.
  4. Yea Mass state taxes basically rape you hardcore.
  5. I agree: more than half the tax the government sics you with is unconscionable, unjustifiable, and downright un-American. I moved from CA to OR last year (so blue to blue). In CA, we had state tax (but also refunds) and sales tax (although ours was lower than that of L.A.). Here in OR, to where many Californians move for real estate and engineering-related jobs, there is no sales tax (*wonderful* esp. when you buy stuff like cars-- which we happened to have to get right away) but higher property tax than Washington, right above the Portland area, where we live. Real estate prices are much lower here too, and land on the lots more plentiful. Many Washingtonians drive into Portland every day to work (and shop, probably); half the cars on the streets are theirs. Never thought about overtaxation relating to predominantly Rep or Dem states before-- but it makes perfect sense!
  6. Blue State- Pennsylvania No food tax No clothing tax 6 % sales tax Annual inspection / emmision for vehichles Registration for vehichles about $36 a year State runs liquor stores High cigarette taxes I think this pretty good!
  7. GO BLUE! :)
  8. Sway, I have lived here all my adult life and I can definately tell you that it is the good ole boy network of democrat politicians that have established very poor government. I have watch the republican party grow and present ideas that will benefit the state, but the democrats continue to shoot down the creative, fiscally responsible, and ethically responsible ideas to benefit the people. With the upcoming elections, vote for John Kennedy and Bobby Jindal. And whatever you do, vote against Mary Landrieu. If you would like to know about David Vitter, he and I went to school together. Let me know.
  9. Welcome to a blue state where they tax you until you have nothing left.
  10. Have you heard about California? This state taxes everything, including the size of one's anatomy: the nuisance tax and luxury tax.
