Would you vote for Ron Paul if you knew more about him?
Ron Paul has introduced an Amendment to the Constitution that would repeal the 16th Amendment, the one covering taxation: http://www.renewamerica.us/issues/ron_paul.htm The Founding Fathers never intended an income tax, and they certainly would be dismayed to know that Americans today give more than a third of their income to the federal government." In order for HJR 45 to take effect, according to the text of the measure, the resolution must be adopted by three-fourths of the states in the Union within seven years of the date Congress adopts it. The most recent constitutional amendment, which was proposed by the First Congress on Sept. 25, 1789, and was first adopted by Maryland in December of that year, was ratified on May 18, 1992. It provided that congressional pay raises could not take effect until after the next election.

- I'd take a bullet for that man. He's the last honest man in Washington.
- I know enough about him to know that I do not want him in the White House.
- Look Congress is not going to give up the dough. They use the money to buy reelection
- I know enough about him to not bother to go any further.
- No. His simplistic ideas sound good at first, but wouldn't work in the real world.
- Ron Paul is more of a true conservative than any of the other NeoCons running in the presidential race. He's for lowering taxes, a smaller government, and a stronger military. And he understands that what's going on in the Middle East is not strengthening our military. I like him.
- im not privy to his domestic goals, but from what i heard about his foreign policy aims, he seems to have a much greater understanding of the current mess in the mid east than any other political canidate, dem or rep. he understands the concept of "blowback" and admits that U.S. foreign policy has inadvertently led us to the place we're at now. he also calls for a much more humble foreign policy globally. this is a bit more worriesome for me, since he is definently an isolationist. but he certainly is the lesser of the evils.
- Nope. *LadyZania has a point. That was a bit blunt. I'm also supporting Gravel, and while I like Ron Paul and think hes a good Congressman, I just dont think hed be a very good president. I agree with him on a handful of things, but I think, among other things, that universal healthcare is extremely important, and Ron Paul doesnt agree. Should he make it to the general election though, depending on who the Democrat is and what comes out of the Unity'08 movement, I might vote for him. Fair enough?
- I am definitely in favor of repealing the 16 th amendment, and Ron Paul, is my second choice. But, my first choice is Mike Gravel, and he is also in favor of getting rid of the income tax. So, I am not going to be putting it quite as simply as Grateful Dead has! Mike Gravel Rocks! *sm*
