State income taxes due.?

My state income taxes are due on Apr 15th. Does that mean that they must recieve my payment by then or that it must be postmarked by then?

3. Postmarked. If you mail it on or near the deadline (April 16th for most state returns, April 17th for DC and MA) it's a good idea to send it Certified Mail. That way you get positive proof of the mailing date.
