What percent of your income did you actually pay in federal income taxes this year?
I'm not talking about your bracket's tax rate, I'm talking about actual taxes owed, after deductions and exemptions, divided by gross income. I paid about 16.6%. A little less than the wealthiest 1% of the USA, which paid 19%, but more than the average household in the USA, which paid 9.1%.

- Way too much. What deductions..........mortgage interest? healthcare IF it is over 7% of your income?? child deduction?? Those are the only deductions I see. Add to that the State taxes, property taxes, sales taxes on everything, gas taxes and on and on and on. I think you live in a dream world. You should really add up ALL taxes that you pay throughout the year to get the true picture of how the Governments are ripping you off.
- I paid 17.8 % of my income to taxes. Not counting Social Security, state, personal property, Medicare.
- I'm right there with you - somewhere between 16-19%. I like the society my taxes help pay for. I like roads, libraries, schools, police, fire - knowing there is help for the elderly and children. I don't begrudge my taxes a bit. Would I like to pay less? Sure and I think the government could be pared down and made more efficient but I believe in giving back to the society that has enabled me to get a good education and make a good living.
- I'm in the same zone, it's ridiculous. I would love to sit down with Obama and have him explain to me exactly why he thinks I don't pay enough.
