My employer is in Illinois and I live in Ohio and work from a home office, which state do I pay income tax to?

- I'm fairly sure that you pay it to the state where the check is being issued, which would be Illinois.
- You file income and all taxes in the state you reside in....
- Most of the time you pay state taxes in and to the state you live. If you got a W-2 it will show in the State section as to which state your taxes were sent. So you are most likley to pay Ohio. I used to do taxes for H&R Block.
- You should pay taxes to where you perform your work, which is in Ohio.
