Is it possible to pay your federal income taxes to your home state?
There so much public financial outrage right now & I read a comment in the newspaper today advising Americans to do this so that the money doesn't go into the silly bailout funds that will only benefit the rich and shameless. If so, I'm wondering where to find information about this? Since the federal gov't has the power over all of us, I thought it would be impossible too. I suppose the comment I read today in the paper must've been that person venting in outrage.
Public Comments
- You can't do that - it would result in you getting charged for tax evasion. Only the federal government is allowed to collect federal income tax.
- What you suggest is simply not possible. What newspaper is suggesting it?
- You MUST pay your federal income taxes to the federal government. Your home state may or may not allow you to give it money as well. However, even if your home state does accept the amount of money that you were required to give to the federal government, you are still required to pay the required amount to the federal government.
- It is not possible.
- that's like saying "can i pay the money that I owe the phone company to the electric company????" - two completely different collectors!
