Can I cash a check made out to me and my husband after we both endorsed it, but without him being present?
It's our state income tax refund but my husband is in the Navy & will be out to sea for a while. He endorsed the check for me yesterday, but there was a problem cashing it at Walmart (reason #3 whatever that is) and so I want to try going to the check cashing place by my house because we don't have a joint account and both of our individual banks are not near the house. So would I be able to cash it? I have my military ID with both our names on it.

- I think it might be best for you to telephone your bank and ask them.
- Yes you can cash it but the problem is most nonbanks will hesitate to do so because these people employed do not know the law well. If you go to any bank they will cash it for you. If you have a joint account, you can also deposit the money into it.
- Cash it without him there and showing ID, no. What you can do is deposit it into your account. If you need cash, then you will need to write a check off your account. By the way Walmart shouldn't have even attempted to cash the check because they never verified his ID (with him present) when his name is also on the check! If you've ever written a bad check to a place of business that uses their verfication company, you will be blocked from cashing checks at Walmart. If you have ever had fraud with your SSN, then it will block you out from cashing checks.
