IRS forms for previous years?

I need a 1040EZ form for 2005. I didn't file that year. The refund was minimal and I didn't think it was worth the time. I need it now and the deadline to file is in April. Is there any way to request the forms online? I'd rather not sit on hold for a couple hours.... If I take my return to H&R block or some other service, can they e-file it for me, or will they use the postal mail?

  1. irs.gov, enter 2005 in the search box, first link will be the forms, instructions and tax tables (tax tables are under 1040 and not in booklet). efiling is for current years only. You MUST mail the return in by 4/15.
  2. Here's the link: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040ez--2005.pdf And instructions: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040ez--2005.pdf
  3. Previous year forms and pubs: http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=98339,00.html Only the current tax year can be e-filed. All prior years must be filed by mail, regardless of who prepares the return.
  4. Here's the link for the 1040 EZ form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040ez--2005.pdf Actually, since 2005 is not the current tax year, you can't efile the return, you must send in a paper return. Hope this helps.
  5. You should probably go ahead and get it out of the way. If not, it can come back to bite you. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to file your 2005 taxes -- you can basically fill out a website form, and then print it up. So it's essentially e-file plus the cost of a postage stamp.
