  1. Jackson hewitt or turbo tax online. You can file yourself and they walk you through the whole thing. We use it every year. Its cheaper than jackson hewitt and certainly cheaper than h&r block. They charged my husband 200 dollars last year. But we only got charged 50 altogether wih turbo tax. They wlak you rhough all deductions and such you can get too.
  2. In most cases, I don't think any of them are affordable. I do however like the word FREE when it comes to filing my taxes. If your income is less than $56K for 2008, you qualify to use the IRS "free file" program. Several providers are available to select from (my preference is Turbo Tax). The providers will use the most appropriate forms (1040, 1040A or 1040EZ and itemized deductions) based on your entries. If you have more complicated issues such as Capital gains and losses, they will charge you an additional fee but it will be less than walking into a tax preparers office. To make use of the IRS free file program, you MUST start from the IRS web site ( irs gov) and click on "Free File" in the left side of the page.
  3. Honestly, none of them. If your looking for affordable fees, go to an individually owned business, not a chain. The best option is for to file yourself. There are several online programs that are easy to use, inexpensive, and in some cases free. Turbo Tax has a free edition, as does TaxAct. I like Taxslayer myself, it is $9.95 for your federal and state return.
