State payer number Form 1099-R?
I have a form 1099-R that has the state WI in box 11 (as is supposed to be there), but no payer's state number (for American Funds) but H&R Block won't let me input it without the payer's state number. If the state income tax withheld is 0, do I have to put anything and if I do how do I find the payer's state number?

- It is possible to use "NA" (=not available) where software asks for a state payer number for the 1099-R. However, as you point out, the state is supposed to be marked. Not every payer of retirement distributions obtains a state payer number for every state. But since retirement income is considered taxable income in the state where the taxpayer resided, the state payer number is not critical information.
