would and oregon resident have to pay state income taxes if they worked in Texas?

I'm going to be working as an Au Pair in Texas and I need to find out if I would have to pay oregon state income taxes!

  1. You only pay income tax on income... thus the name. So, if you earn income in a state, you have to pay that state's income tax on it. If you're going to be earning only in Texas, then you'll only be paying Texas income taxes (along with Federal, obviously). If you are also going to be working in Oregon at some point in the year, then you'll be paying Oregon income tax on those wages. On your return, if you file a multi-state return, you claim the income you made in Oregon on the Oregon state return, and the income you made in Texas on the Texas state return. On each state return, you completely ignore any income not earned within that state. I hope that makes sense. Good luck! :0)
