income taxes help

Can I move money out of the United States without paying tax?

I have money in a bank which I have already paid income tax on. Can I move that money into a foreign bank without having to pay additional tax to the United States? Does it depend on the country I'm moving to? I'm thinking about Australia....

  1. There is nothing to prevent you from moving legal tax paid money offshore. I would use a wire transfer
  2. Just remember that if you move more than $10,000 that you need to file the FBAR report each year. (TDF 90-22.1) As a US citizen you will continue to report worldwide income on your tax return. If you have the bright idea that you'll stop paying taxes, then you need to read up on the new expatriate rules.
