- They pay for government services and infrastructure such as roads and bridges. They are also used to pay for things like medicaid, food stamps, and welfare. Law enforcement, military, the list can go on for quite a while. Most recently taxes were used to bail out large banks and investment firms, money will be used to buy an interest in these firms making us taxpayers part owners of these institutions. This will be the largest act of nationalism since the new deal.
- ginsf is primarily correct - although the bulk of our road repairs come from the taxes we pay at the pump.
