How do i let IRS know where to resend my check to my new address?
I was evicted from my home and didn't have a new address until recently.My check was returned to IRS and I need to know how to contact them to give them my new mailing address.

- The check will be redeposited to your account and refunded when you file your next return. You could also send IRS a letter advising them of the change and would get your refund as soon as it got around to updating its records.
- They have a form for that. See www.irs.gov. You did file a Post Office forwarding address, I hope.

- Actually it's form 8822, but download that form, fill it out and mail it to the IRS
- Visit your local IRS office and take some ID with you and your proof of address, IRS rep will update your address on their computer system to reissue you check. Reissuing a check takes 4-6 weeks. Or download form 8822 Change of Address with the IRS and mail to appropriate address. Or call 1-800-829-1040, 1-800-829-0922; 1-800-829-7650, to change your address.
- The best number to call to change your address is 1-800-829-0582, extension 726. If the lines are jammed, try this Saturday from 10-3 when the call volume will be less.
