What day does the IRS start accepting returns?

I just got my w-2 and I am wanting to file asap. What day does the IRS start accepting returns? Thanks..I seen on IRS.gov the filing date is 1/11/08 for 2007 returns.

  1. With your W2 and any other income statements, such as 1099s if applicable, any itemized deductible receipts, you are a GO for filing. Don't expect any refunds for about a month or longer. IRS is behind, as congress did not act soon enough for IRS to reprogram computers.
  2. You can file now by mail, or starting 1/14 if you efile. If you use one of the following forms • Form 8863, Education Credits. • Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits. • Form 1040A's Schedule 2, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers. • Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit and • Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit. you can’t efile until 2/11, and if you send your return by mail before that, they’ll just hold it and not process it until then. You can’t file until you have all of your tax paperwork like your W-2’s.
