What does a 1201 reference code from the IRS mean?
I filed via HR Block and opted for the direct deposit on 3/16. I called to follow up on it about 2 weeks later and the IRS said it was approved. I checked today and got a messaged that it is now delayed, and IRS online gave me 1201 as the reference code. Please help! Thanks!

- try calling HR Block since they filed for you, I am sure they have heard of a 1201.
- "1201 o Form 8891 - Beneficiary Plan Status Box (SEQ 0130) and Annuitant Plan Status Box (SEQ 0140) cannot both equal “X”, and cannot both equal blank." Did your return include a Form 8891? If so, check the Beneficiary Plan Status Box and the Annuitant Plan Status Box. There may be a conflict in the way the boxes are checked.
- Call the IRS and ask them what the delay is. The reference code is not one that is used when your return rejects, which is what H&R Block has on file. It may be a treasury offset, which would come up if you owed back taxes, child support or other government debt.
- 1201 is a "processing" delay code....you need to call the IRS, they will probally be able to give you a new deposit date.
