What Form Do I Fill Out So That I Know How Much Money I Owe The IRS?
I will be receiving a 1099 form and I have to fill out a W-9 form but what form do I submitt to the IRS so that I know how much I will have to pay them? I am used to filing W-2 forms and sending the IRS a 1040 form. I am just a bit confussed.

- 1040 Long Form plus Schedules C and SE for the 1099 income.
- Form 1040 + Schedule C or C-EZ + Schedule SE You'll also need to make quarterly estimated payments using Form 1040-ES. You can download that from the IRS website. Follow the instructions to determine what your estimated tax liability will be and how much you need to pay quarterly.
- If all of your earnings are reported on a 1099MISC you are considered an independent contractor for the firm or individual paying you. In that case you still use IRS form 1040 however you also attach Schedule C to determine the taxable portion of that income. If all of this is confusing you may wish to contact a tax professional. It is not uncommon that they will find advantages that save you more than there fee
- 1099-Misc income is income as self employed or independent contractor. How you will treat the 1099-Misc income, read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/w2-or-1099-employee-or-independent.html
- If it is a 1099-MISC for non-employee compensation less than $400, either Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ. If it is a 1099-MISC for non-employee compensation less than $400, Schedule SE and either Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ. Note that there will be a self-employment tax of 15.3% of .9235 times the net amount after certain deductions. If it is a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV for less than $1500, just include it on the appropriate line (interest or dividends) of your 1040; no additional form is required. If it is a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV for more than $1500, Schedule B.
