Are real estate classes tax deductable in the Educational deductions for Federal Income Taxes?
For 2007 are real estate classes deductable?

- Only if it is classes required for you to obtain or maintain your real estate license. And it probably belongs in the business deductions.
- Cost for education (tuition for classes, books, etc.) are only deductible as an unreimbursed employee business expense if the education is necessary for your current occupation. If you are already a real estate agent, then the classes are deductible. If the education is for a new job/career in a line of work that you are not currently in, then it is not deductible. So if you are a student/car salesman/work in retail/secretary (you know what I mean) and you are taking real estate classes so you can take the license exam to be a licensed agent, then it is not deductible.
- Once you are a real estate agent, you can deduct education needed to either improve your skills or maintain your license. You cannot deduct courses to obtain a real estate license, as costs of training for a new career are not deductible.
