income taxes help

I live in Oklahoma and say I only made $3200 this year, do I need to file state and federal income taxes?

What is the minimum income to file for Oklahoma? Thanks!

  1. For the federal income tax, the filing requirement for a Single without any dependent is $8,750; that is you are not required to file the federal return. But for the self employed income, the requirement is only $400. For Oklahoma, check the state web site. Most probably, you are not required to file. You should file to get the refund of taxes withheld.
  2. The tax filing thresholds are the same for OK and federal income taxes. The federal requirements are a filing is required if you income is greater than $8750 for 2007. However, if you have had any taxes withheld, it would be to your advantage to file for the applicable refunds. It would be especially more advantageous to you to file the federal return in order to receive the stimulus tax rebate that you might be eligible for. In order to qualify for th rebate, you must file a return for 2007 and have earnings of at least $3000.
  3. If you had income taxes withheld from your paycheck, you should file a tax return to get that money back.
  4. The other answers are correct if you are single, claim your own exemption, and have income only from wages. If you are married and your spouse files a separate return, you must file if your gross income is $3,400 or more. If $400 or more of your income is from self-employment, you would be required to file. If you are a dependent, you may be required to file if more than $850 of your income is unearned. There are a few more cases, detailed in IRS Pub 501. Oklahoma and federal filing requirements are identical.
