How do I file my New York State taxes?

Im trying to do my new york state taxes and I dont know what form I need to use... my income is under 10k.. could anyone tell me what forums to use? thanks, ~Dan~

  1. You probably need a 1099 form. You can get ot from your employer, or through an accountant. It can be a pain because you have to write it all up (your total income for the year) but if you really haven't made more than 10k it's worth it. Otherwise you'd have to pay $200 to HR Block or a similar service to have them tell you the same thing.
  2. Since you earned $30,000 or less federal adjusted gross income (FAGI), you can E-file for free with FreeFile: http://www.tax.state.ny.us/elf/free_efile_info.htm
