2007 tax return maybe innacurate, here are some numbers... what do you think?

-----Me and my wife filed----- 'Married - filing jointly' '2 children' (3 and 5 years of age) Joint Income = $31,659 (gross wages/ total income) What would be average return on these numbers for Virginia? I don't know the rules per state or what info is valid, or if there is enough information here.. we went through Jackson Hewitt, and swear we had a big ol' dumby. It may be right but he didn't seem to know what was going on and it took like 45 minutes. Also, my wife has an internship through the college she attends.. she works at an office but the college pays her wages. The school did not pay any social security tax during her employment as an intern. She contributed to SS: 413.00 Employer/ School contributed to SS: 00.00 So we were charged: 413.00 "which is the total amount the employer should have paid." Any idea guys? Help if ya can.... I do appreciate it.

  1. How was the internship reported to her? W-2 or 1099-Misc? I would have suggested your wife go back to the school and ask why she paid and they didn't. The school exclusion for students would have either applied 100% or 0%, not just for your wife!
