Are disability checks a taxable income?
I went on full disability last year, for 3 month and then I was on partial disability for the rest of the year. Is this income taxable?
Public Comments
- NO, not taxable.
- no... it's not
- No, depending on your unique situation thier not. But anything else that you earn is. Don't forget to file claim for interest at the bank and house taxes... You still might get a refund depending on those.
- nope
- Sick pay from a State Sickness or State Disability fund is considered taxable income. If you pay the premium for an insurance policy, the payment from the policy is not taxable income. Disability compensation paid to veterans from the VA is not taxable income. If you retired on disability, the pension you receive by your employer is taxable income (line 7 of 1040) until you reach the minimum retirement age (the age where you can first receive a pension had you not been disabled). Benefits received the day after you reach retirement age are taxable just like a normal pension and are reported on line 16. Workers Compensation is not taxable income. Compensation for sickness or injury are not taxable. So, you can see that there isn't a simple Yes or No answer. You didn't tell us what the source of the disability payment is. Check out IRS Publication 525 for more information.
