If exempt was marked on my W-4 by mistake, what actions should my employer have taken.?

I recently got my W-2's from my employer and noticed that no federal income tax had been withheld. When I asked about tjis, my employer stated that I had marked exemp in the box on my W-4. This was done totally in error. I have been working since I was 15, I am not stupid enough to try and get one over on the IRS. How should this be handled? They are saying that it is my fault and they can do nothing about it. Please advise.

  1. You will have to pay the taxes when you file your tax return.
  2. your employer is right the w-4 form is your responsabilty they can not tell you what to enter on that form all you can do is fill out a new one for this year .
  3. Lol, sorry, it is your withholding statement and no one can hold your hand while you fill it out. Pony up and pay, since you've been working so long, you should have noticed that they weren't cutting taxes from your pay and sounded the alert. As it is, you are going to have to pay. That's the way the cookie crumbles in the land of adults.......silly...
  4. Sorry, but the employer isn't responsible for the problem, you are. Didn't you notice that for the whole time you weren't having income tax withheld? There was nothing your employer could do. He or she has not way of knowing that you are NOT legally exempt. And in any case they can't go back and make your paychecks for the year smaller - you already got them. It's money you owed during the year, but didn't pay, so you have to pay it now.
