- Yes, it means the IRS has an issue with the amount of your refund. You can either phone them and ask about it or wait for the notice which will come to you in the mail.
- Yes I received that message also. I checked my sisters refund status too and it said the same thing. I filed through turbotax and it said it was accepted by the IRS.
- I got that message also, so I called the IRS this morning and was told that nothing is wrong and that my return was being processed. The code 9001 is just a normal code for processing.
- I received that as well, and when I called the IRS, have received two different answers. The first time I was told that it meant that I'd used an incorrect filing status, but I knew that I hadn't. I decided a few hours later that I really didn't like that answer, and called back and was told that it was too early for any information to be posted on the IRS website. The fact that I saw what I saw did mean that they had the return. The 2nd lady asked me if lady #1 had actually checked to see if there was anything wrong with my return and when I told her no, she checked for me. Said that it was being processed. If the IRS accepts your return, then it's generally ok, and you'll get your refund within the time frame you've been told. If there's anything wrong, then you'll be notified. If you use turbo-tax (or any other tax preparation software) to e-file, then the IRS notifies them, and they'll notify you. Needless to say, I felt much better.
- I just pulled this information from the IRS website- since they didn't start accepting returns until 1/11/08, I would assume that it won't have correct information until 1/18/08 if then. I realized after I posted my other answer, that last year, I'd had my refund for 3 weeks before the IRS website was correct. :) What information is available on "Where's My Refund?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer: The individual tax return you filed for a refund this year (or the last six months of last year) can be accessed through "Where's My Refund?". You can check on the status of your refund 7 days after you e-file. If you filed a paper return, allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing before checking on the status. Information regarding refunds for Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return is not available. Amended/corrected returns are processed as quickly as possible. However, it may take 8 to 12 weeks or longer to process the return. If 8 weeks have elapsed and you have not received your refund, call (800) 829-1040.
