Beware of another year of IRS refund delays 2008?

I e-filed my return on 1-13-08. I did not file any of the forms that would cause a delay. My return was accepted by the IRS on 1-14-08. Scheduled for direct deposit on 1-25-08. Today on 1-24-08 my information on "Where's my refund" changed to "There has been a delay in processing your refund. You should expect to receive your refund by 2-19-08. Do not contact us until after this date." Another tax year with a load of crap from the IRS. The same thing happened to me last year. I filed, return was accepted, deposit dates changed 3 times, received various error codes, and in mid to end February 07 I finally received my refund. Bottom line is since this has happened two years in a row and I'm not affected by the new tax laws, the IRS drags refunds out as long as they can so they can pocket more interest off our money. For anyone expecting an early refund, GOOD LUCK!! Update: 1-24-08 @ 5:23PM. I just checked my status for fun and my expected refund date changed back to 1-29-08. Man this is fun!! I wonder how many more times my date will change before I receive my refund? What a joke.

  1. Don't blame the IRS. Blame Congress. They are the ones changing the laws at the last minute.
  2. Mine still says January 29th if no errors are found. Do you have a default student loan or owe child support? Maybe if you itemized they are checking for errors
  3. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM AN AGENCY, WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT PUSHING PEOPLE AROUND AND STEALING THEIR MONEY AND HOMES ALSO. DID YOU THE 1040 FORM IS A FORM FOR PUERTO RICO ONLY !!!!!!!!!!!!! GO READ THE OMB NUMBER ON IT FOR MORE CLAIRIFICATION. SO DONT USE THE 1040 AND 1040 EZ FORMS OK THE 1040 NR IS THE RIGHT FORM TO USE. IF YOU NEED TO DO SELF ASSESMENTON YOURSELF. GOOD DAY, LP
  4. I just posted the same question a few minTues ago and now I see yours. My refund info states the same thing. I filed the same time you did. WHAT THE HELL IS GONG ON NOW????
  5. Gosh this happend to me too, I was so worried this morning, I was expecting my refund tomarrow and I went to Wheres my refund and it said Jan 29! I called the IRS this AM to see whats the problem but the man said while he's not exactly sure, he can say they got alot of returns filed and they just didnt get to it and I should receive it next friday. Good Luck to all that are suffering from this same problem.
  6. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177009,00.html Here is the article, anyone filing amt will be affected of course half the people filing dont even know what that means and whether or not they file that way! And yes you are right...just another way for them to collect interest on our money! And dont forget the crap about the rebate...they should call it a loan because we will have to deduct it from next years taxes. All a load of crap. VOTE FOR RON PAUL AND HE WILL END THE FEDERAL INCOME TAX, which is a fraud and unconstitutional anyways......ok i'm done venting.....
  7. "The IRS is considering not processing all early returns -- not just the AMT-affected 1040s -- if Congress doesn't pass the related legislation soon. That would mean all early filers, typically folks who get their returns done in early January because they are due refunds, would end up waiting a few extra weeks for their tax cash." Nice to know all that B4 hand!!!! I got the same msg as you wrote above and went searching...that quote is from a site from the NY Times. Pfft!
  8. This happened to me last year also. IT drove me insane. I used to get the 2 day refunds with no problem but starting last year I've also had problems. I filed mine on the 11th and the direct deposit was changed from Jan 29th to Feb 19th back to Jan 29th and now back to Feb 19th again. So I feel your pain. I didn't get mine till almost March last year as well.
  9. So what happened? Did you get your refund on Friday, 1/25? Does it still say it's expected 1/29? I'm due a refund next week so I'm curious. Thanks.
  10. Here is the message to be exact: We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Your expected refund date has been changed due to processing delays. You should receive your refund by February 19, 2008. Please wait until that date to contact us again because we cannot take any action until then. Thank you for your patience. Here is the Santa Barbara Message: Santa Barbara Bank & Trust has not received your IRS refund. Income Tax Refund Status The IRS issues refund deposits each Friday, so your delayed deposit may not arrive until the following Friday. You may visit www.irs.gov to check the status of your refund. The IRS did not deposit funds to your account as originally expected. The IRS usually makes refund deposits within 9 to 16 days, but your deposit was not received within that period of time. At times the IRS will delay a refund deposit by one week, so you may check back at this site seven days from now. If no deposit is made by then, you should contact the IRS. For more information on the status of your refund, we recommend you visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and select the "Where's My Refund?" link. Thank you I feel everyone pain including my own. Times are hard enough for a lot of folks. I was told by the IRS and SB that there were too many returns filed which pushed refunds into the next cycle. The IRS told me Feb 8, but SB told me Feb 1 and that the IRS gave me the 8th so I would not get anxious.
