Is it illegal, Will the IRS fine or audit someone who declares two people using same SSN....?

I know a lot of people here in texas who has 'them' relatives "borrowing" their SSN and they declare it as they have these 2 jobs! I mean won't the IRS see something odd when you see same person working at same time two different places, same shift?? Or is it legall and your SS benefits like Pension will increase so its ok?? Help from Experts please!

  3. this is what the proposal to require employers to verify the identity of SSN problem cases is all about. while there are a few recorded cases of people who actually did work two full time jobs, it is very uncommon. one of the issues is that IRS only gets annual income data and does not receive number of hours, etc. data at all. SSA gets the fuller data, but is required by law to not share it with anyone, including IRS. Perhaps worse, SSA has no auditors who can verify that a person really is who they claim to be [via using an SSN]. Thus, it is quite possible [and has been going on for years] that as many as five people have all been using the same SSN and they sometimes don't even live in the same county!! I have heard of cases where multiple persons, all using the same SSN, separately filed tax returns, with different addresses, employers, etc. What IRS does about such cases [where it seems obvious that at least one of them isn't who he claims to be] I do not know.
  4. The IRS will definitely detect multiple returns with the same social security number and follow up on them. If all of the income for the social security number was filed on one tax return, it wouldn't raise a red flag, since nothing on the W-2 indicates when during the year the income was earned, so there's nothing to say that it was the same shift or even the same day or month. No, it is definitely not legal to let someone else use your social security number. But the IRS is not in the business of enforcing immigration laws.
