I had an IRS tax lien levied against me. Should I hire a former agent to help?

I am receiving numerous mail solicitations, but would like some help. Should I hire someone and, if so, how do I find out who is reputable?

  1. Was the lien filed due to taxes you legitimately owed? If so, you won't have much luck fighting uncle sam. Your best ally to start is a tax specialist who can help you review your income and taxes paid/unpaid... they might find something(s) that both you and the IRS missed, which would reduce your tax liability. If this professional tells you that the IRS came to the right conclusion, I think it would be a waste of time fighting the IRS. Your time would be better spend advancing your career.
  2. if it is money you should have paid forget hiring any one just pay -- if it is a gray area you cpa is the best bet!!!!
