so with the irs messing up many of the tax forms?

they are saying alot of early filers-like myself that use some of these can't file till feb 14th -does this gor for e file also or just regular paper filing?

  1. Both. As soon as the forms are updated, you could do your tax return on paper and mail them in--but so will 3.5 million other people, so the forms will stack up at the IRS service center. When the processing program is ready to go (and it's the same program for both paper and efiled returns), the efiled returns will get processed as they come in. The paper returns will wait their turn to be manually entered. WAIT for the efile.
  2. No, the only returns that will be held up are the returns where AMT appears to be applicable
  3. The fault lies with Congress rather than the IRS. Congress waited until after the IRS printed forms and programmed their computers to change the tax law in regards to the AMT. The situation is still unfolding, but right now it looks as though the filers of only 5 forms may be delayed. Unfortunately, 1 of those 5 is the popular education credits form. There is more of a chance that efiling will be delayed, as paper filers can mail in the returns (even though they may not be processed until sometime in 2-08). Since efiles are processed instantly, the IRS computers must be programmed properly before they can be received.
