Where & how do I enter property Ad Valorem tax when completing my federal or state return?
I'm attempting to complete my taxes for 2006. I received a property ad valorem tax in 2006 from the county I live in. Do I add this tax amount to my federal real estate taxes or is this tax filed with the state return only? Where and how do I enter the tax amount for the county ad valorem tax assessed for my house?

- schedule A
- You are correct; ad valorem taxes are real estate taxes, so you would report them with your other real estate taxes on Schedule A, Line 6 (assuming that you itemized deductions). These are usually deductible on your state return as well, but you'll want to check your state income tax form instructions to verify.
