Tax withheld does not match IRS files VS entries on my 2005 Form 1040?

Ok, I used TurboTax for my 2005 taxes. Now, I am getting a notice from the IRS where they are asking for some money back. When I entered my W-2 info, I did it automatically entering Employer ID that came on my W-2 and it pulled it directly (and correctly from somewhere) into my e-1040. I did my stuff and e-filed it successfully. Now, if I go and check back on TT 2005, I still see the same data, but by some reason the printed form and the summary one are actually displaying the discrepancy the IRS noticed. I've checked and re-checked my TT return and it is correct, but displays withheld incorrectly and sending it like that to the IRS and the printed forms. So, what are my options here? Anyone with the same problem? If so, how did you fix it with TT? Or am I SOL here? To clarify, seems to me like there is a bug on TT that is incorrectly displaying withheld on my return.

  1. i do not use turbo tax so i can not help you there - but it does not matter what turbo tax says if for some reason it claimed you had more tax withheld than what was reported on you w-2 that u are right you are sol but it it put the same amount as what your employer put on the w-2 i would forward copies of all the paper work before i paid them.
  2. I once worked for an employer who had bad book keeping, when a I compared my YTD earnings on my last check stub to that which was on my W-2, they did not match! In fact, the amount on the W-2 stated I made more money then I actually did, this meant that when I filed, I was in a higher tax bracket then I should have been and ended up getting a smaller return! I simply pointed the error out to my employer who voluntarily offered me the difference. You should check with your employer about discrepancies in reported income as well as contact the people at Turbo Tax. I do believe the have some sort of guarantee don't they?
  3. Welcome to the world of Turbo Tax. First of all you should resolve the problem with the IRS to stop the interest which is building each and every day. Next you should contact TT and scream Bloody Murder. If you don't get any help start sending complaints to every consumer protection place you can thing of and send a cc to TT.
