Friends IRS Taxes done wrong- Need more info?
Posting for my guy friend. He is 23 and works. His older brother (same mom, not dad) doesnt work. That family is a mess. My friend lived with them up until a few months ago. But for 2006 he filed and claimed 2 kids of his brothers. He takes care of them, ect...They move alot, but also in the house is the brothers gf and her mom. They have important mail, like IRS.HRBLOCK go to a permanent friends home. H&R BLOCK gave him about 5 grand. But now IRS wont give all the money to H&R Block. So H&R Block wants that money back...and IRS wants proof of alot of paperwork. One thing was that their mom is the same but different dads..they asked for marriage lisence...The mom was married a few times but not to his dad. they can say/sign everything is legit but they asked for a bill with my friends name on it...That they dont have...What should he do?

- he needs to find a CPA or tax consultant. look in the yellow pages.
- I work for H &R Block seasonally. It sounds like he got a refund loan and then the IRS did not get enough of a refund to pay off the loan. Actually the refund loan is from HSBC bank. I think what happened is the brother also claimed the children and the IRS ended up giving the deduction for the children to the brother or some other person. First off go to a CPA and explain the situation. The rules when two people like your friend and your brother both claim the same children are pretty complicated. And your friend will have to supply information to the IRS so they can determine if he is entitled to claim the children. So your friend needs help in figuring out the situation to see if he can claim the children. In the mean time your friend owed money to the bank that H & R Block uses and he will have to make arrangement to pay them the refund that he didn't get/ These situations with multiple family members can be a mess. I hope the answer helped.
