Become IRS agent with very low GPA? Is that possible?
What's the chance of recent dollege graduate with accounting bachelor's degree and a very low GPA(2.7 cumulative & 2.1 major out of 4.0) becoming a IRS agent? Should he/she just give up on his/her dream of becoming an IRS agent even before he/she had the chance to apply? Will the IRS recruiters just throw his/her application into the trash can as soon as they see the low GPA?

- i wasn't aware the IRS was such a lofty entity. They have everything from street thugs to accountants working for them so i'm sure there's a place for you. P.S. the revenuers are the street thugs.
- Not if you 'write your resume' in the right manner ... use 'correct grammar' and SHOW THE IRS 'hiring agents' that you may have gotten a 'low GPA' but you have 'learned what you need to do to get the job you want' ... and then I would think that they would GRAB YOU IN A HEARTBEAT ... a 'high GPA' is only ONE thing on a 'list of factors' that the agents in charge of hiring are 'looking for' and if you are 'great' in every other way, your 'low' GPA won't count for much at all. GOOD LUCK.
- ROFL!!!!! That's your dream job?!!!!!
- The IRS has a ton of different types of job offerings. The first thing that happens is you take a competency test. This test is boring, repetitive, and probably about the lamest thing you will ever do. And they take anywhere from 6 months to 1 year to get back to you. But when they do, since you WANT to be with them, snatch up the job offering right away! Don't be discouraged that you dont hear from them - and whatever you do, never call them to check on your status - if you do, they will remove you from the list of potential people to hire.
- No way. The majority of IRS agents never finished high school! Why do you think it takes them so long to process tax returns?
- Tax compliance is one of the first things that they look for, The educational requirements can be an issue see the attached link from the IRS website on what they look for in hiring for postions such as Revenue Agent You won't know if you don't apply, you state the you have a Bachelor's in accounting, Thats a good starting point. apply and see what happens. You can apply as a Customer Service Representative to get experience under your belt and then apply for other positions within the Agency. http://jobs.irs.gov/car_acc_iraent.html... you can also review requirements for other postions http://jobs.irs.gov/careers.html...
- Sure bash ahead, I have CPA, Masters in Tax and my undergrad GPA was only 2.75. I worked and partied very hard. Been at the IRS for 20 years, love it here. The major firms that would not touch me out of college have all been turned down by me. So my defensive nature aside. So yes you can get hired as a revenue agent in SBSE or a collection officer in SBSE. You would honestly have the best shot in our taxpayer service divison. this is a nice start and then move up. We love to promote within. In five - 10 years you will be making 75k working 40 hours with job security and you will be doing good work. The government is going to spend it so somebody has to collect some of it.
