- You only have 3 years from the due date of the return to claim any additional refund, the Statute of Limitations for 2003 expires on April 15th 2007. Any prior refund to that is gone regardless of who made the mistake
- Contact the IRS. 800-829-1040 http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=133088,00.html If you went to a place like Jackson Hewitt and you took out the Gold Guarantee, or Block and their Guarantee, you are eligible to be made whole for 3 years of the tax return life. Next you may be able to file a negligence suit against them if they will not own up.depending on the error and the consequences..... good luck
- You won't be able to collect any money from the IRS except the last 3 years. You need to demand your money spent to prepare the taxes back, in writing, from you from the preparer. Most of the places have 100% money back. We had a place make a major mistake, the local branch blew us off so we had to contact corporate. If they don't take them to court. Threatening to contact the press or going class action helps/
- Unfortulnately you can only claim refunds for the past 3 tax years. It's YOUR responsibility to make sure that your tax return is accurate. YOU are supposed to review YOUR tax return and make sure that it is correct. You have a case to have them prepare amended returns for the past 3 years at no cost to you. Beyond that you have no case at all. If they decide to offer you something, take it, as you will not prevail in a court of law with this one.
- The IRS can only go back 3 years. Amend your returns.
- You can't get refunds back farther than 3 years from the IRS.
