Why does the Bible have contridictions?

You don't have to read all of them. Why?: Because it only takes one contridiction to dissprove the Bible.

  1. because the books were written by different people at different times.
  2. zzzz
  3. the Bible is probably a whole bunch of made up stories that teach people about what rules to follow
  4. Isn't it obvious?
  5. Well thanks for all the examples - but the reason I have always believed is that it has been translated so many times. And keep in mind that the bible is made up of different chapters written by different people. As I am atheist I don't look at the bible as holy scripture, but as a book that was historically written.
  6. How does a contradiction "disprove" the Bible? Or do you mean that a single contradiction disproves the Evangelical doctrine of inerrency (which is already at odds with the traditional Christian interpretation of Scripture)? Plato is full of contradictions - does that mean Plato is "disproved"?
  7. The Bible is not completely false. There is nothing you can do to make a thing based so much on belief proven false. By itself, most of the teachings of the Bible are quite true. Some I do not agree with, but that does not shut out the whole thing. Do you see what I am saying? The answer to your questions: from different perspectives, things are always different. Different points are trying to be proven by different people.
  8. ok, so I'll take just one God did... Satan did... not a contradiction.. Joseph told his brothers "you meant it for evil but GOd meant it for good" There are often a confluence of wills, God accomplishing something for good, God perhaps designing what you are describing to humble David and make him a better person and king, Satan doing it for evil intent to try and dishonor God as far as other ones, many reasons and they have been cataloged many times and oceans of ink spilt. Most of them are because they are a short summary of a larger event, some are because they are not written in 21st century photographic journalistic style and bring up only the details the author wants to focus on. One might describe only the temple area being purchased initially another place the entire temple mount being purchased eventually as an example
  9. It doesn't only have to do with mistranslations it also has to do with Self righteous and apostatized clergy and leaders like King James. Also many of these stories were passed down by word of mouth and many were just estimates esp. with numbers. Most of these examples were taken out of context. There was a Great Apostasy. There has also been a restoration. Have a good day! :)
  10. I've examined all the purported New Testament contradictions from both the English and Greek texts and every single one of them was not contradictory in context. I haven't examined the Old Testament yet because I am only extremely poorly versed in Hebrew so I need to learn Hebrew skillfully before I can study the Old Testament. But the New Testament has 0 contradictions.
  11. To prove that $hit comes in holy books too.
  12. for the readers sake next time maybe you could be more concise. sounds to me your ready for islam. welcome.
  13. Yes, you did your homework and proved that there is a lot of uninspired things in the bible. However, that does not mean that inspired scripture does not exist. Jesus said that if we focus all our attention on the Spirit of truth that all things would be revealed to us. Because of this I have discovered important inspired texts that were excluded from the bible. I only look to the bible when I am directed to for a specific purpose. Otherwise, just trying to read the bible and make sense of it only leads to confusion. This is why christians are so confused.
  14. How did you get by with asking such a long question? When I ask a question, I'm restricted to so many letters. Not Fair. I haven't had time to look up your comparisons (you looked long and hard to find things, didn't you?) but I don't think some of the comparisons are about the same issue. Why don't you find something else worthwhile to do? I'd choose the Bible over you no matter what the comparisons.
  15. Because it's a bunch of fictional BS.
  16. My teacher always told us, Don't just read the Book, Study it, maybe if you do this you will be able to understand better, however.........
  17. The first five ones are explained here. http://www.carm.org/diff/2Sam24_1.htm http://www.carm.org/diff/2Sam24_9.htm http://www.carm.org/diff/2Sam24_13.htm http://www.carm.org/diff/2Kings8_26.htm http://www.carm.org/diff/2Kings24_8.htm Find the rest yourself if you are really sincere.
  18. When will you post the other contradictions? A page and a half devoted to errors, seems barely enough.
  19. ...........................
  20. The Bible has contradictions because it was translated and re-written over a period of time that differs depending on where you look. The whole problem with Religion is belief. Belief its self is so limiting it can only bring frustration and disorder to those that choose to embody it the way Religion asks you too. If the truth were actually told you would have no need for a Bible or the contradictions and misinterpretations their in.
  21. 1. too much stuff 2. but when you really start studying the word of G-d in great detail the misunderstanding disappear
  22. First of all, who's side are you on? I've read many of your answers prior to this, and you seemed to support God, and quote your Bible very well. Now, you're tearing the Bible apart and using a magnifying glass to inspect it. If you know the Bible as much as you seem to know it, you know it was given for instruction, and direction, why are you looking so hard for errors and yet, you quote to others as truth, What exactly are you looking for when you read it, if you don't believe what it says? "a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways" '" wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." James 3:17 What you say about the Bible isn't the issue, The issue is what does it say to you when you read it? Otherwise, what are you reading it for?? Yes,you know the Bible very well it seems, but do you know God??. Outside of how old someone was when they became king or how many people were counted, and who did what when, have you ever simply just read it to find out what God says, Have you considered applying what is written to your own life, Have you wondered if maybe they written to teach us something about ourselves?? What difference does it make if it was 800,000 or 800,001, if Jesus ascended on one certain day or another day? The point is He ascended and God multiplied the army and rose up against Israel and He rose up in anger against David, do you even know why?? He had mercy upon them and the plaque stopped. Can't you see God's mercy and His Goodness in these stories? Look at how loving and patient He is, have you ever read the Bible, looking through it on God's side of it? you know, like read all the way though a story to see how God works, what angers Him, and wrong we can be at times and yet, He is still merciful. Have you ever noticed a depth of mercy and compassion that goes beyond anything we could ever do? If there are any errors, it is on your part, not God's chosen and elect. Just consider for a minute, that just maybe you don't think like God thinks, or reason the way God reasons, therefore you criticize and measure and weigh the facts based upon your own human intellect, that just maybe there's some things you don't know the reason for, and maybe you might be just a little limited because you're human??†
