Are these some of the many hundreds of contradictions in the bible ?

  1. I think a couple examples and a link would suffice. I hate paste jobs, even from fellow atheists To my mind, the most interesting thing about "Biblical Errata" is how vigorously believers defend, explain or deny the discrepancies. In many cases (a few examples below) they are really stretching the limits of credulity with their post hoc rationalizations. If the Bible was written by men, based on stories from the oral tradition, and copied, recopied and translated over 100's of years, then you would expect to find these little errors creeping in. If the Bible were truly the inspired word of God, and if its "message" is important to the "salvation" of all mankind, then I would expect a deity would try a little harder to make the message crystal clear, concise, and unambiguous. Believers can believe what they choose, but the Bible is quite explicitly not clear, concise or without ambiguity, else why would so many Xians themselves disagree on what different passages actually mean.
  2. No it is not. It is simply the result of different peoples attempt to write a narrative by memory. If the Gospels had been written on spot - live - you wouldn't have these differences - and probably only one gospel.
  3. Clearly, I am not going to go through and read all of this to try to prove anything to you, however I did skim a few of them and just to look at your point of view I looked up a couple: The time of day of the arrival at the tomb. You used Matthew and Mark. They clearly say the same time In Matthew, it says In the end of the Sabbath (meaning the end of "Sunday") as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week. (look up the meaning of dawn-it means early in the morning) In Mark 16:2 It says the exact same thing....And very early in the morning the first day of the week.... What part of that is confusing? My Bible speaks of the textual differences in the different counts that you have pointed out, however whether it was 200 or 245, what is that text teaching you? When we look at history, all of it is not fact by fact by fact, but we are still taught history throughout school. The Bible clearly gives you a guide on how you should live your life and how you should treat others in order to make it to Heaven. If you can't love your enemies whether there were 200 singers or 245 singers, you can't make it to Heaven. I think it would be a good idea to read for an understanding rather than to find errors. The Bible is right. May God bless you and open your eyes to His understanding.
  4. Are you under the impression that those of us who read the Bible regularly have never come across anything you've mentioned? Do you think they will somehow surprise us? Obviously you mentioned too much to comment on but I"ll respond to just some of it. 1) The centurion either said " this man is innocent" or "this man is the Son of God" Couldn't he have said both? 2) Judus, who changed his name to Jude so as to not have the same name as the betrayer was the same person as Thaddaeus. He is Saint Jude Thaddaeus. 3) Herod knew He had John the Baptist killed but he was worried about what was going on and jumped to a silly conclusion. That's not so hard to understand. 4) Acts 9 says the others with Paul heard the SOUND.. Paul in Chapter 22 says they Didn't hear the VOICE which spoke to Him. Acts 9 says they saw the LIGHT. Paul in Chapter 22 says they saw NO ONE. There's no contradictions there unless one wants to be nick-picky just to find them. 5) John does not say in 19:30 that "It is finished" was the final words of Jesus. He just claims Jesus said that, and soon after bowed His head and died. Only Luke claims to know what Jesus said as He breathed His last. I could go on, but you get the point. While some points are valid, and do raise questions which Christians should ask and seek answers for, the majority of what you posted is just nick-picky comments on miticulous details which aren't really all that important. If you read in one newspaper, the acount of something that happened, and read slightly different details in another newspaper, does that mean niether are reporting the facts?
  5. Surely, you didn't expect me to answer every one of these. Let me recommend a few books for you to read. They will answer all of your questions: 1)The Errors in the King James version by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman 2)Alleged Discrepancies by John W. Haley 3)1001 bible questions answered by William L. Pettingill and R.A. Torrey 4)When Critics ask by Norm Geisler 5)Encyclopedia of Bible difficulties by Gleason Archer 6)Hard sayings of the bible by Peter H. Davids 7)More hard sayings of the New Testament by Peter H. Davids. I could recommend a thousand more books like that but that will do. Anyone who has ever been an investigative reporter or a Private detective knows that for any kind of news story or crime, the witnesses are always going to differ a little bit. That's because they see it from a different perspective. That's why every newspaper has a re-write editor. His job is to collect all the eye-witness reports and harmonize them because they are all going to be a little different. If the witnesses reports are all exactly the same, the re-write editor starts to think COLLUSION. In other words, maybe this thing never happened. Maybe a bunch of people just got together and made this story up and made sure there were no differences in their stories. The witnesses always differ. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. It just means they say it from a different perspective. Incidently, another good book you might want to consider is a book called 'The resurrection report'. It's by a guy named William Proctor. William Proctor was an editor for the Chicago Sun Times for many years but he started his career as an investigative reporter. He takes the Gospels and writes a book as if he is a reporter covering the story. It's kind of a harmony of the gospels type of book. The interesting thing is that he explains why he has no problem with the so-called differences in the gospels. He just says that that's what you would expect from any story.
