Will my tax refund not be direct deposited now?
I efiled using HR BLOCK's free federal preparation and opted for direct deposit, but into my fiancee's account since I don't have one. Now I read that the IRS generally won't do that unless its a joint return or other reasons and I am wondering what will happen now. Will they send me a check or some kind of letter saying it couldn't be deposited into an account that is not my own? CRAP! And how much longer of a wait are we talking here? Okay so we went and added me to his it should be all gravy and hopefully I will get it Friday since supposedly they only do DD'S on that day and I am supposed to have it by Feb 6th, which is this coming Tuesday :) Thanks all

- they might deposit it. one solution would be to quickly add your name to that account, assuming fiancee really loves you haha. If they end up mailing you a check, it's not much longer of a wait. irs and hr block overplay the speed of electronic to get people to file that way.
- I've done returns and had them directly deposited into accounts that did not belong to the client. I'm always sure to ask for a voided check because that is what will be looked for first. I don't see why it will be a problem. The E-File usually takes 8-15 days to be directly deposited.
- It might get deposited anyway. If it doesn't, will take about an extra week and a half.
- The bank may or may not accept it; it's primarily up to the bank. If the bank bounces the transaction it will take several weeks to get a check cut by the IRS. This happened to a friend last year, he used the account number of a closed account by mistake. It took him about 10 weeks to get his refund.
