Thanks.
Estate Planning: My 73 year old uncle has $1 million dollars in his IRA (lucky dog).? We're trying to figure out how to make the IRA money get taxed the least. If he took all of it out now, what would his tax rate be? He has an annuity of $80,000 per year. When he dies, it would be taxed at least twice, right? Federal taxes, state taxes (he lives in NJ) and also an estate tax unless he dies in 2011 when the estate tax is repealed. Just trying to figure out the smartest way for him to manage his money. Thanks so much!
What would be the Federal and FL state tax liabilities for a 200k estate in Florida? Thanks in advance for your help.

If the CPA and attorneys close an estate and transfer everything and state there are no taxes are they liable? if they come back six years later and say there are? The girls father passed away and they gave her everything and had the father in a bunch of LPs and transferred part to her, but did not transfer the liabilibty. Five days after she passed away they reopened the fathers estate and stated a tax problem and have allowed it to go from $92,000 to over $500,000 with late fees and such. They also state they had nothing to do with it and basically where just going to cover it up until the lady passed away. The tax scheme the father was in helped with a 20% discount on land and timber, but the exemption was 1.5 million and they told the man that when they tranferred $500,000 in value from one LP to his daughter, that he would own no taxes. Best of our knowledge is the taxes should have been about $90 and should have been paid. They have been sitting on it for over two years since they found it. now the law firms lie, but the cpa firm states it was the first firms fault for closing it Relatives have been trying to get the property left to them but they wil not transfer it and still keep letting the late fees grow. They also do not have a tax id number for either estate. I mean is there a law group that handles this kind of stuff as the local attorneys will not touch them and ones employed end up working for the attorney firms which is a conflict of interest. It's like the crooks are all the people that are suppose to be the good guys. By the way the executor has gotten a loan approved to pay the taxes and also tried to sell about 2 million in land for $750,000 and much is missing and he states although in the will it does not exist. The lady had a bad cancer and was in bad shape and taken advatage of and we would like to throw them under the jail. Is there anyone. state Attorney Gerneral states not in their area, FBI same even though interstate wire stuff. So are they liable, the attorney and cpa, who have milked the estate for voer $70,000 in fees unfortunately the judge is sorta in the mix and never ruled agianst them at any time a large firm with connections and any attorney I aproach freaks out when told who they are. Ne I did hire who does something totally different has ended up not being able to sue them because he "does so much work for them", which is strange because originally he was going to do that, but they got to him.

The state of NY holds deed to my house for back taxes, can the fed govt take the deed from the State? I am the executor for an estate where the deceadent owed property taxes and federal income taxes. what have cities and counties done with the real estate taxes they have collected? Now that prices and values of homes have fallen, cities, counties and states(?), are scrambling for ways to raise more income (many through higher sales taxes) so they can collect more of our hard earned money and waste it. When values were skyrocketing they collected a virtual windfall of income. Well, what did they do with it?? Did they waste all of that extra income. Cannot the governments not spend and spend and spend?

Does anyone have any experience with tax laws regarding real estate in the state of Illinois? I have moved between 2 locations within 2 years of purchasing a home at the first location. I am aware that in order to avoid capital gains on the profit of the first home, my workplace has to be >50 miles from the previous workplace in order to qualify for the "safe harbor" modification to the capital gains law. I have done so and have moved into our new home (work 52 miles from original work and home is 50 miles from original home). I am currently in the position where I can improve my employment situation. However, it would require me to take another job at a location 30 miles further, for a total of 82 miles from the initial job. I am in the 21st month of the 24 necessary to avoid capital gains, but I don't want to pass up this opportunity. Any insight anyone can provide (e.g. website) would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you in advance! I am not planning on moving my residence. Just my place of employment.

Why do we pay DMV/State/propery/death/estate/capital gains/whatever other taxes other than income or sale tax? Does anyone else think it is a little unfair and stupid that people have to pay fees for their car registration, Driver's License, renewal of said license, everyone has to buy insurance, we have to pay taxes if we win a lottery, we have to pay fees for telephone, we have to pay taxes for gasoline! Things that give us transportation is a way to live, and if you can't pay those, then the government is depriving you from working/survival. When you win a lottery, the government is taking that money as well. I think that is ridiculous. What's wrong with just taking what money you need from sales/earning taxes? Increase/decrease it accordingly, and that will make sure that rich people pay more, poor people pay less, w/e. Taxing random items does noone any good. When you say that we have say in the matter, we have none. (please see my other question on elected government) Actually, in urban transportation, outside of bicycles, cars are the most cost effective mode of transport. If you don't believe, look at the research. I know it doesn't seem right, but it is. And about the lotto... It's about chance. Why do I have to give a share of what I go by luck to the government? If the government wants to take some of that, let them play the lotto. The whole point of it is that you don't have to work for it and you get a whole lot of money. I didn't say eliminated. I said changed to just one form of taxation, so we actually know what we are paying. If you realize how much government takes of your money and spends on random crap that nobody wants, you'd suddenly be very afraid. And we cannot stop them any longer. It is impossible to vote in a politician that will decrease his own power/pay/revenue.
What kind of taxes do think we should pay? Personal income taxes? Social security taxes? Corporate income taxes? Excise taxes? Custom taxes? Estate & gift taxes? State taxes? County/city taxes? Tell me what taxes you think should exist and what taxes you think shouldn't exist.

I want to know if I can claim cost of home remodel on house in one state after moving to another? We moved from Florida to Tennessee last year. We improved house in florida before selling. We did not live in Florida house for full 24 months so we are being charged capital gains. We were told we could not claim remodeling/repair costs of house in Florida. Also when we moved to TN., after living in it for only a few months,we sold the first home(duplex)we purchased in TN.,to buy a house with a back yard. We were informed by our tax prep lady the duplex could not be counted or we could not claim the loss on the house in Florida due to Tennessee tax laws. Why are we unable to claim the cost of remodel on first house in Florida which includes home remodeling and cost of new water well. Can anyone help to clarify the real estate tax laws in state of Tennessee?

Have a question about Pennsylvania "LOCAL" taxes...? Every year we get letters from a 3rd party tax collection agency. I thought that these envelopes were for filing state taxes, I typically do mine online & e-file them. Well apparently it's for a local tax. From what I gather now it happens something like this... I pay 1% of my salary to the town I work in. The township I live in tries to get that tax money back, therefore that's why I need to file yet another tax form. BUT I can't remember filing this form ever. I don't think I'd owe anything since I believe both townships are at 1%. What penalties will I get whacked with? And for the record, these taxes are crazy. I already pay crap loads out between the feds, state, real estate/school tax etc!! Not to mention 6% sales tax on items I buy! AAAGGHHHH! Luckily my employee does withhold these fund, so I did pay towards it.

Tax Question regarding Real Estate Taxes Paid on Property. Thx!? Okay I am 20 yrs old, single, never married, no kids. Washington state resident. I just bought a duplex (resedential real estate w/ tenant) It IS my primary residence and I am suppose to live there although I don't. No one knows that. I work under the table (no tax deductions) so I have no proof of income whatsoever. I pay interest for 2 yrs w/ the mortgage I got. I heard a lot about claiming "tax deductions" on the interest, if I work under the table and possibly will get a second just making under $800 a month and I will claim 0. What will the tax deductions on the property give me? Will I get a bigger tax return? Will they pay me back some of the taxes I paid to the mortgage company? Please explain it to me. I deeply appreciate it. Thank You! Well I do appreciate you honesty. I am a full time college student in order to qualify for financial aid I cannot have a job and I am afraid if I do claim they will make me pay for financial aid which brings me harm because I cannot pay my bills. So I work under the table, I obtained a loan w/ no proof of income called stated income loan (my credit is wonderful) So basically because of my credit I got the loan. I am not trying to lie or cheat, I am not trying to get a easy way out. It was an innocent questions. Thank You =)
Estate taxes.......? My late husband passed away a year ago today, I just received a letter from "my attorney" (after not hearing from him in 9 months) saying that he received a letter from the dept of revenue that I did not file a "Inheritance Tax return on my husband's estate". Do I need to do this?(he also has 3 children-2 out of state) My husband had no will (no money left behind) and my(his- I was not on the deed or mortagage) home is only worth $30.000, my van(also in his name only) about $1500.00 and my only income is a widow's pension from va , so I don't file a tax return, I am young and never owned anything, and this sometimes seems like more hassle than its worth! Will I get in trouble if I don't file one of these? Did someone report this to the IRS for them to come forward about this petty stuff? I live in Pa, please help, will this stuff ever end?? Thank you!
what is a real estate tax stamp? I live in New York state.? I am refianancing my mortgage, combining 2 loans and was told today I need to have $2500 at closing because of these tax stamps.
State (not federal) inheritance tax question? In 2005, I was temporarily living and working in Michigan, but a legal permenant resident of New York, when a person in Florida died. I inherited $5000, which I received later that year, while living in NY and unemployed. I filed a federal 1040, an NY resident income tax return and a MI non-resident income tax return, and reported the income from employment in MI on all three. (I also claimed a credit on the NY return for the duplicate state income tax on the income from MI.) Do I have to report the inheritance to any of the three states, and to which states (if any) do I pay inheritance tax? (Do not worry about the estate taxes due to the federal government; someone else is responsible for that.) dk01237... is wrong. Inheritance is NOT reported on the federal 1040, for example. Bostonia... is probably right about the tax laws. He is wrong about what I knew when I asked the question. I never lived in Florida and was only in Michigan for a few months, so I do not know their laws well. However, this happened two years ago, so I might have known when I filed, and forgotten about it since then.
My dad recently passed. His estate is worth less than 900.000 will I have to pay any tax? I am ahead of estate The major amount of his estate is his pension and will be divided between me and my brothers. I know we will individually have to pay income tax on this but will we have to pay estate tax? The state we are dealing with is Connecticut.

Politicians and taxes...what do YOU think? What do you think??? Star and pass this along to your voting friends.... be very funny The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases. A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . . Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean? A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528. B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787. C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012. Washington, D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken?? Tax his land, Tax his wage, Tax his bed in which he lays. Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What the hell happened? Can you spell "politicians!" And.... I still have to "press 1" for English. I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times.

My solution is a strait sales tax, say 30%, so all can pay for the American dream, equally. This lady down the street gets about $6k a month, from child support, ssi and/or ssd. Total taxes paid about $800 a year in property taxes on her rent. ANY THING that is required by the government, fee's, permit's, that cost money is a tax. Yes there is a well permit tax http://marathon.mi-twp.org/mt_residential_plumbing.pdf

Would you support an immediate cut in all taxes to feds and state/local govts?? real estate property taxes slashed to half of they are now. Income taxes cut to half of what they are now, and sales taxes cut to half of what they are now......starting immediately. Tell me what you think would happen or have to happen as a result of this quantum leap...how the USA would be changed.
Owning Real Estate Tax Benefits - Theoretical Question? Let's say, hypothetically, that you are a single male, earn $50,000 gross anually, live in Illinois (state tax implications), and are looking at purchasing a home with a $140,000 mortgage at a 6.25% interest rate. You have about $450 in pre-tax expenses taken out of your paycheck every month, not including government taxes. Your first year you will pay $10,344.05 in interest expense, and $1,640.51 in principal. What are the tax benefits / implications of purchasing this property? Thanks.
Doesnt our government, now infected with the Pelosi/reid regime have enough taxes without wanting more? Isnt it enough? This is only a partial list. None of these taxes existed a hundred years ago. We, at that time, were the most prosperous nation on earth. It's obvious where the liberal welfare and tax and spend schemes have taken us. Look no farther than cut and run and the massive massive pork attached by Ms. Pelosi to protecting our soliders. Simple question here really: When is enough enough, and how can we get the liberal extremists to wake up? I suppose even god loves a liberal for some reason, I just cant figure out why? Let's get it right people OK? John Edwards, pre flip flop, Hillary and other extremists VOTED FOR IRAQ, so its not Bushs war. Next, the only thing Clinton did was to take unjustified credit for the Reagan tax cuts and welfare reform(after four successive vetoes) from the Contract With America. What we "got" from Clinton was an indicted and impeached president and white house character to an all time low. Character is not built through poltical correctness, polls and confiscatory taxes. The pelosi/reid regime, through cut and run should show you that. I think it was said along time ago best, those who dont lean from history are condemned to repeat it. Obvouisly the liberals here are vieing to be first in line. Yes, Im well aware taxes pay for things. The problem is. DO WE REALLY NEED GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN ALL THE THINGS THEY PAY FOR??? THE SOLUTION WAS SELF REALIANCE LONG AGO, WHY NOT NOW???
Is there serious discussion underway in yr state re: significantly reducing or eliminating state income taxes? I understand this to be the case in both Georgia and North Carolina as these two states attempt to support the continued rapid growth of their economies. Is there any discussion that you're aware of by responsible parties in your state? In my state, NH, there has been a longstanding push to institute an income tax. With Democrats now in charge of both houses of the legislature as well as the governorship, I expect that this effort will continue with renewed vigor. One reason I and many others like me came to this state was because it's in dead-last place in terms of total taxation - personal, corporate, estate, etc. This has resulted in a relatively small state government focused on basic requirements (health, welfare, safety, roads, air & water) instead of the one I had in California that spent most of its time looking for ways to raise more money to spend. The purpose of my question is to identify states that are moving in the right direction in case I decide to relocate. I know some of you disagree with my position vis-a-vis state income taxes. Feel free to express your disagreement. All that I ask is that you keep it civil - otherwise, as per the usual, you will be reported.
