Tax preparation when working in two states, one being Texas? I have a home in South Carolina, but I am about to work in Texas for at least a year. I rent my home in South Carolina, so all of my mail will need to go to Texas. However, I want to keep SC tags, etc. What is the best way to handle this and how does it affect my taxes? Does the fact that Texas has no state income tax have any effect on me? Will SC take taxes out anyway?

What action can I take against an income tax preparation agent? I filed for an tax extension for the year 2007 this April 2008. I contacted a Jackson Hewitt agent to prepare my taxes. After he filed my taxes, I paid him his fees and I assumed, everything is done. However, I was contacted my the IRS to provide additional documents regarding one of the forms. I have been trying to contact him for a month now and he has not contacted me back yet. I asked his colleague to pass on my message but he still has to call me back. His colleague informed me that he has informed him (my agent) about it several times about my calls. I still have not replied to the IRS yet and I would like to get done with my paperwork first and then deal with my agent for his unprofessional attitude. Does anyone know what course of action I can take to get my job done?
Accounting Help Needed. This is income statement preparation where I need to find out what the income taxes ar I need to prepare an income statement for this company and determine what the income taxes are. The income tax is said to be 30% of the income before taxes, however I have not been able to figure out what the income is before taxes. The given information is as follow: A/P.....35,000 A/R.......65,000 Advertising expense....15,000 Cash...... 19,500 Supplies expense.....46,000 Rent expense........10,000 Utilities expense........3,000 Misc. Expense....4,400 Salaries Expense.....61,000 Fees (revenues)......384,000 Owner's equity.....140,000 It also states to assume that 7,500 shares of stock are outstanding, and I need to determine the income taxes (30% of income before tax) I do not know what the outstanding shares have to do with this because I do not have dividends as an expense and if they are outstanding that means that they are not assets because they belong to shareholders. I just need to get the income, so I can get the taxes. Please help....
Regarding personal income tax preparations, When I am asked if I had any state or local income tax refunds...? I'm filing my 2007 taxes right now. Regarding personal income tax preparations, When I am asked if I had any state or local income tax refunds... Does that mean what I got back from the previous year's (2006) taxes? Or maybe an early sort of state reimburstment for some of 2007's taxes? This should be a simple question, and I'm 99% sure I know what they mean, but it just surprises me they don't specify. FYI, I am a Michigan resident. FYI, I am talking about some pretty simple tax filing stuff...I'm a 21 year old dependant, and made 13k this year or so... so nothing else too fancy is even considerable in this ordeal. No selling of a house or property or a car or any IRA or ROTH investments or what-have-you. Just the siomple basic question. It further specifies that I should be able to find this information on a 1099-G form........Any ideas?
Is there a online income tax filing service/portal in india ? I am looking for a online income tax preparation service for indian income taxes. Can two income tax businesses open up next to each other and survive? What will determine its success? The landlord of our new building never stated that the other business opening up next to us was going to be used for income tax preparation. Now they are calling us and threatening us with legal action if we open up next week. The landlord assured us that we could still open up and I guess now its a matter of marketing to see who will get all the business... Any suggestions as to how to survive economically in this situatioN? We are also Certified Tax Preparers and will be next to another 'multi services business' (which includes tax preparation).
What is the best company for tax preparation? I've always just filed for myself but this year I get the earned income credit and I can claim head of household and claim my daughter and I don't know how to do it myself... I've heard that H & R Block take like $300 dollars from your return... what company would you suggest that does it correctly but doesn't charge an insane amount of money? (300 doesn't sound like a lot but if I'm only getting 2000 or less back, it makes a difference) And I have a bunch of write offs and I have no idea how to do any thing like that so I really need to find a good company. Thanks so much for your help!
How do tax preparation techniques compare with bankruptcy techniques and what are the ethical implications? Consider the following two scenarios. 1. Successful individual with six figure income and significant assets hires tax attorney/account to ensure every deduction and technique to reduce tax liability is explored and taken advantage. 2. Same situation as above but individual encounters serious financial downturn due to job loss or failed investments. Decides to exercise bankruptcy protection and hires attorney to ensure he is able to protect as many of his assets as possible and reduce financial liabilities as allowed by the legal process. Both have acted legally. Is there an ethical difference between them? Is there an ethical duty to pay taxes as required by a democratically elected government? Is there an ethical duty to pay private debt? Is there a difference between the two? Good answer; I ask because I recently heard an argument that people who use bankruptcy law to their advantage to resolve a financial problem are unethical or immoral.

Schedule K Form 1065-What do I do with it for tax preparation? I received this form for an ETF DB Commodity Index. It seems to indicate that I was a "partner". I sold the the ETF in 2009. But there seems to be some reportable capital losses and Income losses to be reported on the 2008 tax filing. I use Sch D for my trades, but have no idea what to do with this form. Is it reportable and where? Thanks!

I have an income tax question.? I am a public employee (Firefighter) that was injured on the job and was on worker's comp. for 4 months in 2005. My employer (the City) continued to pay me my regular wage with all taxes taken out. (The City is then reimbursed by worker's comp.) My W-2 shows my full pay for the year, even though 4 months was on worker's comp. and therefore untaxable. My question is how do I file my taxes correctly? I have a letter from the City with the amount I was paid while on worker's comp. Which forms do I need? I normally do my own taxes with the help of a computer program. Should I get an accountant for this one? Should I use a commercial tax preparation service? Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I am now back to work. Thanks for the concern.
Becoming a Tax Preparer? I am looking for someone to mentor/assist me in growing my own income tax preparation business. I have done some research and have a few questions. Approx. how much would it cost to have my income tax prepared assuming I go to a "standard" company like West Tax or H & R block: -I am a student with tuition credits -I own property (with related write offs) -I have receipts for charitible donations and medical expenses. how much will tax preparation cost ? Hello, I am filing my tax's this year for the first time and I was wondering how much a place like H&R bock would charge me for this service? And or if I did a e-file would it be faster or just as fast as the company above? And I was reading about a earned income tax credit for people whom made less then 15,000 for the year of 2008. And I fall in that category and was trying to figure out if I can apply for that tax credit. Or what the qualifications are? And also noticed that there is a extra kick if you didn't get the full 600 dollars last year for the stimulus and they are giving you extra now? If so do I ask H&R bock about this service or ect? Thank you for all the information. Also I am single live on my own no kids. And I may consider other options too as liberty tax's ect.. to do my return.
tax preparation - C Corporation? I incorporated my company as a "C" Corp this year - Feb 2009. When do I have to prepare / pay taxes next year? Is it the same time frame (April 2010) as my personal income taxes or does it have to be done in January 2010 (annual year Feb 09 - Jan 10)?
Career in Tax Preparation? I'm ready to jump from engineering (boring) into a full time career in tax preparation. I just love taxes to the core of my very being (don't bother telling me how weird I am, I know already). There are many options and I want to hear from career tax people which they feel is the best and why? I want pros and cons. I'm also interested in potential annual salaries. 1) Full time job with a large firm like H&R Block, but not as a manager or any other job where you don't do many actual returns. 2) Tax firm franchise owner...should I purchase an existing office or start a new one. 3) Hang out a shingle and start my own office or partner with someone else who has done this, learn from them, then buy them out. I have enough cash to weather a few years of low income, but I am not interested in an extended dry spell. Also, do I need a CPA degree or just an EA? What do you do in the summer months to stay busy? Thank you all for your time.
Income Tax Question - Form 8283 Charitable Deductions (noncash)? I need a little help. I've been told 2 different things, so I need to confirm which is correct. I use Turbo Tax to do my taxes. I usually have non-cash contributions of over $ 1000 each year, costing about $ 75-200 for each. I get a copy of the receipt that Goodwill gives me and keep it with each donation. I use Its Deductible to plan how much to deduct for each item. Turbotax then fills out Form 8283 because the total of all my contributions is over $500. *** Here's the problem: My mother told me her tax person said that you can't claim non-cash donations each year over $ 500 unless they give you an appraisal. **** Isn't that just if an INDIVIDUAL item is worth over $ 500?? Not if you give away, say... Goodwill 2-10-07 $ 201.00, Goodwill 3-4-07 $ 122.00, Goodwill 8-14-07 $ 175.00, Goodwill 11-1-07 $ 98.00 ??? Any help from a CPA or someone who does tax preparation would be really appreciated. Thanks!!
my tax prepareris being indicted for "aiding and assisting in the preparation of false income tax returns"...? Now I am being called as a witness for his upcoming trial. I did retain a lawyer but I will more than likely get audited and have to pay back any money that was not owed to me since 2002 until 2008. He filed my federal tax return for 2008 but then i never heard back from him . problem is he never filed for state return (thank god!). How do i go about re-filing my taxes from 2002 until 2008? Can I just go to H&R Block or do i need a CPA? Another tax preparer??? help..... Yes he did all my returns and apparently padded them along the way. I met him when it was time for me to file my very first taxes when I first came to the US and now apparently I was not entitled to all the money that I got back. i never looked at the returns because i trusted the guy (stupid me) but apparently so did 17 other people since he is charged on 17 counts (!!!). Apparently he was arrested back in May of 2008 and STILL continued with the scams...
After Bush is done faking a presidency? Maybe he can open a income tax preparation chain. You know, you go into "Bush's House of Fuzzy Math" and walk out with a trillion dollar refund! Hey, if he can pass a bogus budget, why can't he hook me up with my taxes?

How does getting a room mate affect financial aid and tax preparation? I am thinking of moving into a bigger apartment this summer and asking my friend to move in with me and be my roommate. However, my mom said that I would have to report my roommate's income as part of the household income. Since moving in will actually cost me more (because my mom won't be helping me pay for anything anymore), I still will be broke all the time. I'm afraid that they may end up giving me less financial aid or that I will loose the discount health expense benefits that I have now. Do I have to report my roommate's income for tax, financial aid, and federal aid purposes even though my roommate's money won't be supporting me? And if so, how will this affect me?

Career as a tax preparer? Hi there! I'm a stay at home mom and was concidering taking the H&R Block income tax class and working through tax season for some extra $$. Are my S-corp Distributions supposed to be taxed on my personal tax return? My tax guy and myself had a parting of the ways. He already did my corporate tax return, but I am doing my personal one. I've been using one of the websites for tax preparation and all is pretty easy and simple. I worked for a company for half a year and then went into business on my own so I have 2 w-2's, plus my K-1. So here's my problem....the software shows me getting back 6500 just from my two w-2's. On another schedule I'm asked to enter my distributions which is line 16 on the k-1. When I do this, my refund is reduced by 2500. It appears to me that the additional distribution funds are being taxed as income. Is that correct? I thought the whole point of the s-corp is to avoid double taxation? I already paid the tax for the distributions on my paychecks. If I made $1000, I took $500 as a dist. and 500 as income, but I paid tax for $1000 on $500 I paid myself as income. So I've already paid taxes on the distributions. Am I missing something here?

As an actor, all of my income this year is from W-2s. Still feel like I should use schedule C...? Feel like I should utilize Form Schedule C, since I still work like an independent contractor and believe I should enjoy the further tax deductions as such. I am a little ignorant about tax preparation, etc. By not deriving a sizable amount of income as an independent contractor, am I not financially hurt by the fewer ways to deduct expenses, etc.? Can anyone adivse me on this? I feel like I run my own business even though I am occassionally hired by film production companies and studios which put me on their payrolls temporarily. (I get W-2s) Thanks.

What are the ongoing, mandatory expenses associated with incorporating (LLC or S-Corp)? This shouldn't include actual business expenses like equipment, transportation, office supplies, etc. or even tax preparation fees. Can you get the Refund Anticipation Loan at H&R Block if you have really bad credit? I have horrible credit to be honest, due to low income. I want my tax refund asap, so I can move out of my in-law's (horrible) house. I don't have a lot of money to pay for my tax preparation, but I want a decent amount back. The HRBLock website says I can expect about $4,500 back, but I think if I have bad credit, I have to wait the 8-15 days to get direct deposit. I also want my tax fee to be included with my refund so it's taken right out, instead of me payin that day I file my return. Please only respond if you work at H and R Block or if you are sure and acknowledgeable. Thanks! So I can get the Refund Anticipation Loan where I still wait a day or the 8-15 days? I was worried that I'd be turned down and couldn't afford the tax prep fee!

I am trying to figure out what to do? Help Please!? Since 1992 through 1998 I was in college. I did not work and took out financial loans to pay for college costs. I did not file tax return for those years, should I have? Since 1998 to 2004 I worked low paying jobs and everytime I would walk into a Tax Preparation office to file a tax return, the tax preparer would state 'You can file BUT you didn't make enough money to file'. What does this mean and what is the income per year that doesn't require you to file a tax return? In 2005 I worked two salary positions and got scared to death since it has been sooo long since I have filed a tax return, and I did not file. What should I do now? Since 2005 to 2007, my wife operated a child home daycare and I had no income. If I didn't have a job, do I still have to file a tax return? Very recently I received an offer from a company and would like to begin working. Is there anything I have to take care of before I receive my W-2 from this employer in January 2008 so I can file for this job? Thanks for anyone who helps me with these questions! My wife and I got married July 2006 (last summer). So, you are saying that we should be filing jointly now? My wife did file tax returns for the 3 years she operated a home daycare center, but she filed single. Someone once told me that if you claim the correct amount of withholdings (0 or 1) on the W-4s for your job, and that if you were due a slight refund or broke even and didn't file a tax return, the IRS would not come after you. Is this true or useless verbiage? I was under the impression that it was only mandatory to file a tax return when you owed taxes and had to pay taxes for that year or wanted the refund? Can someone correct me on this? <curious> Thanks for your much needed advice! <from Virginia>
