When is one required to pay Federal Income Taxes? Is it, or is it not true that one is not required to pay federal taxes untill they have reached a set dollar ammount of income per year? Such as $3000 or $5000 dollars. If so, what is the exact ammount? Where can I find the information?
do i have to pay federal income taxes if I earn UNDER $20,000 a year? My employer didn't withhold ANY federal taxes. I was told I don't have to pay federal income tax if I earn UNDER $45,000. Since I earned under $20,000, should I pay any taxes. When I figured out my taxes, it says I owe over $1,400 AND I could get a penalty since my employer didn't withhold taxes.
How do state and federal income taxes work? I am 16, live in Michigan, and recently started working my first real job. On my most recent paycheck over half of it went to Federal Income taxes, State Income taxes, Social Security taxes, and Medicare taxes. Does this sound right?
Federal Income taxes, filing electronically and the time frame you received your refund? I filed my federal income taxes through Tax Engine electronically and I was wondering if anyone else out there who has filed an injured spouse claim form electronically could tell me the time frame in which they received their refund. (Mine should be direct deposited) Normally it's the middle of May when I do it by mail and the date they usually give me to receive it is always wrong, just wondering if the electronic filing system is the same because of this stupid form.
Why does my paycheck pay no federal income taxes? I received my first paycheck, but for some reason the Federal Income Tax slot says 0. Should I be worried about the end of the year? Well, this is an on-the-side second job that pays me minimum wage and around 8-15 hours a week. And yes, as a college student, I am a dependent. So I guess that's interesting to know. And I wrote no allowances (0 for all A-H) and left the exempt box empty.
What are your thoughts on removing Federal income taxes? I was listening to a program yesterday on a new propsal to remove the Federal income tax and instead have a federal sales tax of 23%. I personally thought is sounded great! Imagine taking home your entire paycheck!! No IRS. As long as the current exempt items are kept the same, the middle class and poor could really make out. What are your thoughts?
How can 50% of the country be upset with the federal government about income taxes? If you look at the data, the bottom 50% of American taxpayers only pay 3% of the federal income taxes. I'm pretty sure that is almost no money per person. I'm actually positive that a large portion of those people actually get more money in refunds than were taken out of their paychecks (i.e. they get paid by the government). Now, I guess if you include the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security contributions (not taxes) then they pay a bit more, but no one every talks about reducing those contributions. Do you even know what percentage you pay in taxes? I do. Do you even know if you are in the top 10, 25, or 50% of income earners in the country? Most people don't think they are rich, but if we assume that the last tax cut only benefitted the "rich" or benefitted the "rich" the most, then there are only two classes--and I definitely don't consider myself to be poor.
Can you really refuse to pay Federal Income Taxes? In www.zeitgeistmovie.com the last section refers to the Federal Reserve Bank as "about as Federal as Federal Express" and that the Income Tax law was never approved, then it goes on to interview IRS agents who haven't paid taxes in years...how then did they nail Al Cappone for Tax Evasion and how safe is it to play that game? NOTE: I pay my taxes and on time! I was just curious about the zeitgeist movie footage. So far Bostonia get's my vote for best answer...
Did you know that there is no law that makes you pay your federal income taxes? To this day there has not been one person who can show me and many others a law that states I must pay my federal income tax. The IRS has refused to answer anyone either. This is not a conspiracy theory and if you say it is show me the law that says you have to pay. tonalc, you ae forgetting one thing. The amendment was never officially ratified. Watch Freedom to Fascism on Google Video and it will answer any questions you have I guarantee if you all watch the video you will change your mind. Yes! I guarantee. Watch the video first, it is not conspiracy oriented.
I filed my federal income taxes already but forgot to add a w2? I have already filed my taxes this year but forgot to add one of my w2's. I worked at another job breifly and forgot about the w2. Can I just hold on to the w2 and add it to my taxes next year and just pay a penalty or something? Also, how much would the penalty be if I do that?
Federal income taxes? Can somebody find the IRS statute that says you have to pay federal income taxes. The 16 admendment was never ratified. RESEARCH YOUR ANSWER WILL BE SURPRISED. What the law professor didn't explain was 26 usc 7201 of the IRS code is a penlty code and does not levy any duties. So try again.
Is the USA government the biggest criminal by making us pay federal income taxes? They make us pay for the lazy senators to take extended weekends off & all the other lazy govt. employees by stealing from the hard working peoples income. Does the USA government all belong in concentration camp for stealing from the hard working peoples money? btw im 19 & the govt. steals my video game money every pay check i get.
Minors and Federal Income Taxes? I work at a pharamacy. (Started a few weeks ago) and I had to fill out some paper work. One was a W4 form. When I received my paycheck last night, money for federal income taxes were deducted from my check. Is the money supposed to be deducted? I am 17 and am a student in high school (NY). If I'm not supposed to pay, then how can I fix this problem? can I even fix it?? Thanks in advance. Alright, well I make minimum wage (That's 7.15 in NY) and I only work 3 days a week, 22 hours in total. I understand that FICA must be paid. It was just the Federal I was unsure about. Can I ask my manager for a new W-4 form to make sure I've filled everything out properly? (Thanks for the answers, btw!)
Do we have to pay two separate income taxes to both the Federal & Provincial in Canada or is it inclusive? The federal basic personal amount of earning before taxes for 2006 is 8839 and each of the provinces have there own amounts, usually slightly lower then this. What is the maximum we can earn living in the Province of Quebec ? Ontario for example is 8,377 for 2006 . Essentially, with no other factors, deductions, income, exemptions, you can earn this much income and not pay any FEDERAL tax in Canada, but what about Provincial tax, is that different ?
Anyone know how much the rich (upper 1%) pay as a proportion of personal federal income taxes? Is it fair? Regarding the tax question earlier: The upper 1 % of wageearners/taxpayers pay approx. 35% (that's right, check the IRS stats) of personal federal income taxes, and the upper 5% pay approx. 55% of those taxes. For those of you who don't know any better, wealth is created and is not finite. Because one has it, it does not mean that it came from someone else. Stop being envious of the rich and crying about how much the middle class pays. The bottom 50% of taxpayers pay less than 5% (approx. 4%) of all personal federal income taxes. If that is news to anyone reading this, then you need to be better informed.
Would you be willing to pay substantially higher federal income taxes in return for universal healthcare? I see a lot of dialog in this forum about how great the Canadian health care program is. I have two Canadian friends who migrated to the US because they paid the equivalent of a 60% income tax rate in Canada, and, in their opinion had better choices for health care and better return on their health care dollars in the US than they did in Canada. One was a doctor and the other was a surgical nurse. They earn more per year than many Americans, and that may have been a factor. I don't know if the same tax ratio would be applied to a lower income individual. I am curious as to how many of you would be willing to pay much higher taxes at that rate to have guaranteed health care. It isn't free (as is often implied in this forum) because the tax payer subsidizes it. However, everyone is entitled to good medical care in Canada. The US subsidizes medical care for only the poorest people.
If Americans are free, why does our government ask us for protection money (state & federal income taxes)? We all know if you don't pay state & federal income taxes, they can take away your freedom by putting you in prison for income tax evasion! You might say the taxes are for running our government. If they were to run our country the right way, they wouldn't need our money. If its for fighting wars, its wasted money, plus, the most powerful nation in the world doesn't need to fight overseas to prove a point. Other taxes are alright! The above is for a theisis I have to write! What's your valued opinion?
what are "federal income taxes witheld"? i am a waitress at a famous hotel/resturant on miami beach! recently, i had a preparer just look over my W-@ and she told me that my "federal income tax" was too low compared my wages for 2006. should i get a second opinion?
Should Federal income taxes vary by state ? The reason I ask..is someone just asked the question... "am I considered middle class with 100k per year ?" Immediatley I thought.... depends on where you live ! In FL, you would be living great on 100k... not so much in parts of California though... Should income taxes vary by state, according to the average cost of living in that state ?...wouldn't this help to keep the standard of living in the US somewhat uniform accross the country ? And wouldn't it help the state to lobby on your behalf to keep your income tax low ? well as far as standar of living...I meant to say... standard of living being more uniform for the middle and lower class. Anyway.. thanks for the answers.... it was just a thought.
If we cut back federal income taxes significantly more, how big will budget surplus be? if we cut fed income taxes to half what they are across the board right now, how big will the budget surplus be due in two years due to all the extra tax revenue that will be generated? so lets cut them by 75% of what they are now. For every dollar of tax collected, lets only collect 25 cents from now on. Seems to me its a cinch we should be rolling in excess surpluses in just a year or so.
In referring to federal income taxes, can disability payments be added to gross income.? I was in state disability for 6 months this year due to an on the job accident. Can the disability payments I recieved be included in my yearly income even though it is tax free. This would help boost my EIC return. I was on the state disability insurance that is funded by deductions from my paychecks and employer contributions. No other income while receiving it.
If 15 million American citizens illegally evaded federal income taxes, will the government forgive them? Will the government give them amnesty? After all you can't put 15 million Americans in jail for tax evasion. Perhaps Congress could pass much needed "Taxpayer Reform".legislation. Obviously the current tax laws aren't working. This bill would require tax evaders to pay a "meaningful fine" of say $1000 or $5000 to get back in good standing with the IRS (without having to pay the original taxes that they evaded, of course). This will bring these good people, that are just trying togive their families a better life, out of the shadows. But we can't make them pay the taxes they evaded. That's just not realistic. Most of them have used that money already to buy homes. They are just trying to live the American dream like anybody else. If they had to sell their homes, the housing market would collapse. Other tax evaders have used the money to start businesses. They are actually helping the economy. Call your senator and tell them to vote YES on AMNESTY FOR TAX EVADERS
Can I send in a blank 8453-OL when I e-file my Federal Income taxes? I used turbo tax to e-file my Federal and I was told a few days later that I needed to sign form 8453-OL and mail it in to finish my filing. I couldn't print my report at the time I sent the forms through turbo tax, so when I was given this message I printed a blank form 8453-OL from the IRS website, filled in my DCN (declaration control number) and signed as instructed. Although the IRS has my information through turbo tax, is it necessary that I fill out the details of 8453-OL before I send it in?
Is it illegal for employers to not take Federal income taxes out of your paychecks? My previous employer never took Federal out. On my W-2's every year it was never listed and I always owed the government. Is that legal? Could it be that it was because there were a lot of illegal immigrants working there too? All I ever did was fill out an application I never filled out a W-4 or whatever. She only took out for SS not any kind of Medicare or whatever. Out of like a $400 they would take out like $15 or so
Why do our Federal Income Taxes go to a Private Bank? That seems a little strange to me Hey you Boston Fed freak, quit answering my questions! If you enjoy paying your taxes go ahead, I am tired of funding dark projects like the Iraq war and the illegals who abuse our welfare system with thier anchor babies! They should be putting it all into future securities
