Do I need to pay Virginia state income tax on serverance from a Texas company? I left a Texas company in 2006 and got some severance pay in 2006 and will get some in 2007. I moved to Virginia after I left my Texas job. Do I need to pay Virginia state income tax on my Texas severance pay in 2006? Do I need to pay in 2007?
State income tax filing: part resident in Virginia? Hi there, my husband lived and worked in Washington state from Jan 07 to Aug 07. He then lived and worked in Virginia from Sep 07 to Dec 07. I lived and worked in Washington state from Jan 07 to Dec 07. For federal tax, we are going to file "Married, jointly". We don't need to worry about Washington state tax since there is not personal income tax there. However, in Virginia, there are income state tax for residents, part-residents and non-residents. My husband is still non-resident in Virginia since he has not changed his driver's license yet. I guess he will need to file part/non-resident state tax in Virginia for the income he earned while he lived there. Am I correct? Is it okay for him to file Virginia state tax individually and federal tax jointly with me? Will it affect the federal tax filing? Thanks a lot. Us as One: I don't quite get what you meant. Would you mind explaining it a little further?
virginia state income tax...overwhelmed!!!? no lectures please... I owe $2300. because I didn't file my taxes (state). I didn't file them because I couldn't figure it out for myself and couldn't afford to pay someone to do it for me... what are my options? when they file for you does it include my deductions? (head of household and my son) I know I will need to set up a payment plan...but before I do that I would like to see if I have any room to lower the total amount owed... ...actually Virginia State Taxes are extremely complicated...unfortunately I was not able to figure it out (I am college educated and have been filing taxes for 16 years...I am fairly new to VA, hence my first filing) As for H&R Block or Turbo Tax...yes, I was that cash poor and couldn't afford it.
Do I need to file state taxes for Virginia if I live in Virginia and my company is located in Missouri? I have relocated to Virginia for my job in October of 2007. I guess you would call me a remote employee as I am the only employee for my company here in Virginia. There is not an office or any kind here in Virginia. My company did not take any Virginia income tax out on my W-2. They took Missouri income tax out. I am wondering if I need to file in Virginia as well as Missouri. Please Help....
comparison of state taxes virginia v. north carolina? real estate taxes; does either state have income tax? sales tax and on what items?
Can TurboTax appropriately calculate multiple-state income tax liability? For the first time this year, I had to work significant amounts of time outside my home state. I have been using TurboTax to prepare my returns for several years, but I have only been required to file my federal return, and my Virginia tax return. This year, I must apportion my tax liability at the state level between California and Virginia. If I purchase both the Virginia and California state TurboTax software modules, will the program correctly calculate the state liability for both states? Please, if you have not filed in multiple states and apportioned your days worked during the year, and if you have not personally utilized TurboTax to file your returns in this situation, do not reply to the question. I am looking for definitive answers, not opinion or speculation. Thank you.
Virginia state taxes? What percentage % of income tax is withheld in northern virginia?
do i have to pay state income tax? if i work in virginia but live in tennessee, would i have to pay virginia income tax?
Virginia State Taxes Question...? I'm sorry for all my tax questions... I live in VA. I received a 1099-MISC form for $3300 in box 7. No taxes were withheld. I paid my federal taxes fine. The state tax is what is confusing me. The VA tax site specifies that I need to file if I am "Single, and Virginia adjusted gross income is $11,250 or more". I figure since I only made $3300 there is no way that I can get a VAGI of "$11,250 or more," which would mean I shouldn't have to file. But since I worked as an independent contractor and received a 1099-MISC form, would that mean I need to pay self-employment taxes to the state of VA? I had to pay self-employment federal taxes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Employer did not take state taxes out of my daughters payroll? My daughter is a resident of VA working for a Virginia based company. Are they not responsible for withholding her state income tax? Her W-2 showed no state taxes withheld, will she have to pay penalties? She's not a student and I know she claimed "0" but no longer works for this employer so she doesn't have a record of how she filed. Virginia does have state income tax. It looks like she'll have to pay and be more careful next time to be sure that taxes are taken out!
2006 Taxes - filing from different states? My question has to do with filing a joint return with W-2s from Virginia (with state income tax) and Texas (No state income tax). I moved and worked in Texas from June 2006 until December 2006 while my husband and children remained in Virginia. I normally use Turbo Tax to file our taxes. So would I just create a federal return listing all work and income from both states and then just file the Virginia State Income Tax with only income earned for within the state of Virginia for 2006? Right?
virginia state tax refund help? my wife is a non resident who pays virginia tax and we live in florida and filing jointly federal income tax. do I need to add my income (I work and live in florida} also when we do our virginia state tax returns?? and what status should I use to file for our virginia state tax refund??
Eeek! How do we file our state income taxes? Bare with me. I am newly married and we are filing jointly for the first time. My husband is a Marine and we're using Taxslayer.com because it's free for military. I am beyond confused on what to do when it comes to our state taxes. Taxslayer.com allows us to file as many as needed, but... My husband joined the Marines in October 2007 out of Indiana. He had only been living in Indiana for two months and received no income from the state. On his military paperwork, he is listed as being an Indiana resident. He has been stationed in California for all of 2008. He didn't live in Indiana during 2008, though listed as a resident through the military, and he is in California for duty, so does he not have to file any state taxes? Then there's me. I lived in Maryland when 2008 began. While living in Maryland, I worked in Virginia and DC. I moved to California in September, before we were married, so it wasn't technically because of the military. Do I file as 'resident' for Maryland, 'nonresident' for Virginia and DC and... 'part year' for California? Too many states, ahh! And lastly, if we're filing jointly through Taxslayer.com, will our state forms be recognized as being for either me or him? I'm a little confused on that too. If you actually took the time to read this, thank you!
i need help with virginia state taxes? I worked for a VA employer but lived in MD. My employer took out taxes for Virginia state. What I have been told is that I need to file the MD tax return and pay the full amount due and fill out VA tax return with VA income as 0 so that whatever VA taxes were with held are refunded to me. This sounds alright, but what VA tax form do I need to fill out to get the refund? Also, will there be penalty that I will have to pay for MD? If so, is there a formula to figure out what that amount will be? Thanks.
Tax Question: I got paid to be a speaker at a conference in another state. The organization made me...? fill out all kinds of tax forms, where I had to essentially say that I was an independent contractor performing a service for them, etc. All the forms were properly filled out and given to the organization, so presumably they will report my earnings to the Feds. No problem... My question is - will they also report my earnings to the state? (West Virginia) And if so, do I need to fill out a tax return for that state, even though I don't live there? Or should I report the income to the state in which I live? Also, should I claim my mileage that I drove to get to the conference and back? I will get a 1099...
I need some tax advice, iam confused.? I have worked at 4 diffrent jobs, two jobs in Virginia and two jobs in West Virginia. I live in Virginia, How exactly do i need to file my taxes, I only made 7043 for 2008. Could i file my federal and state together for Virginia and federal and state together in WV? I have a residence in TN but my work week is in VA (close to DC). Do I file state taxes in VA? I have and pay for a residence in Tennessee, which I visit almost every weekend. I work in VA though (near DC) and live with my Dad during the weekdays (really long drive). My job has my Dads address. Now it is tax time and I am not sure how to file my taxes this year. Tennessee does not have a state income tax and Virginia does. Do I have to file for taxes in Virginia? If not, is it possible to get back the money they withheld?
Taxing Question? I live in West Virginia. Am I required to claim distributions from a 401 Roth account as income to the state tax of West Virginia? I turned 59 1/2 in July 2007.
What is a status 4? I had tried to file my taxes for the state of VA, I mailed them in then I got a notice today the said: "We are unable to process your Virginia Income Tax Return. The items checked on this form explain the problem......." they had checked, "If one spouse is not a resident of VA, then the VA resident must file status 4, using only their income." Is a Status 4 a certain form? What form would i fill out just for myself? Also can I do that when I filled a joint 1040 for federal?
Do non-US citizens who work in the US have to pay federal and state income tax? For example, a teacher from The Phillipines who is not a US citizen comes during the school year and teaches high school algebra in Virginia, returning to their home country during the summer break. Does this teacher pay state and federal income tax? Do any non US citizens who work in the US have to pay state and federal income tax?
Help I owe taxes and still am due a refund. When Will I get it? I got a letter in January 2008 from the IRS saying that I may owe more money because I have some income that was not reported on my 2007 taxes. Well I was in the process of redoing my 2007 taxes with H& R block, so I called the IRS and asked for an extention beacuse we are still working on it. They gave my 30 days. Well I called back in Febuary 2008 to get another extention because I now have to pay the H&R block people again to redo my taxes from 2007, And the guy said that he couldnt give me another extention but that I would get a letter stating that I had 90days to get it taken care of or they would take further actions. I asked the IRS guy if it was Ok to do my 2008 taxes he said yes and that they would not touch it because I would have the 90days to fix the 2007. Well I filed my 2008 taxes and am due a refund. I did the HR block Rapid Refund Check 1-2 days. They denied me the loan on my tax refund because of a debt that I didnt know that I owed for 2006 to West Virginia State tax department. $159.73 is all I owe then. Well I was due a refund from the state of $140.00. When I called the IRS they accepted my takes and gave me a date I should have recieved then which was Feb. 17. Well last week that date changed to Feb. 24. I am still due a refund even after all taxes are taken. No one at the Irs can give me a date of when I will recieve them and what the hold up is. One lady at the IRS stated that they were going to take the money that they think I owe them as well as what I owe the state. I thought that even if you you owed that they didnt delay it what is going on in my case any clues. I filed on Feb 3 at 1pm in the after noon. Electronicly and was told 8 to 15 days but the Irs doesnt know when I will get my refund. I only owe under 1600.00 for both and still do a refund. Also When I fix my 2007 taxes I dont owe them all they say I do. Help
Whate is virginia adjusted gross income? I'm trying to file my state taxes online and they are asking for the Virginia adjusted gross income, it states that I can find it on line 4 on my 1040 EZ form, but that is not accessible at the moment. What income is that? I know it’s not the federal income taxable income. So is it the amount I received back for my federal returns? I’m sorry if this seems simple but I’m not quite sure.
Regarding taxes and company *not state or fed* paid disability, is this money taxable in the state of VA? I receive company paid disability at 66% of my regular salary which is managed by Aetna. When I finally got my claim approved I received four and a half months of payment, with no taxes taken out. I reside in the state of Virginia. Should I be filing quarterly payments for federal taxes on my company disability payments? Is it considered 'income' for state and federal purposes? If I AM supposed to be paying taxes on this money isn't it illegal for it to be provided to me without giving me the option to fill out a W-4 form--without a completed form they should have been withholding at the highest rate possible. Aetna has been completely useless in helping with questions about the taxation situation. I've been setting money aside from this but I really don't have a huge amount of money to give to a tax agent just to tell me what Aetna darn well should already know.
A collection agency claims I owe Virgina state income tax-1987? This is the first I have heard about a problem. I don't have my records back to 1987 and don't live in Virginia any longer. What recourse do they have?
How much do I take home after tax in Virginia? Hi. In Virginia, how much can a person making $85,000 per year take home after social security/healthcare tax/federal/state incomes taxes? Thank you.
I live in the north and want to move to the South? Where should I move to or avoid? Thanks!? I'm considering Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky (especially Kentucky!!!) don't do much for me. I'm considering some important factors, which include natural beauty, attractions, friendliness, cleanliness of the area, climate, cost of living, and job market. The state's I'm considering all rank high in these areas (heck, TN and TX don't even have a state income tax!) Wait, I forgot, I'm also looking into Louisiana. I like Louisiana. Another thing, I REALLY, REALLY don't like Florida or Kentucky. The people, in my experience, have been really rude in those places.
How much of our salary can we expect to pay in taxes? We are a married couple living in Virginia with a combined income of just under $100,000. We have no children, or property, so have minimum deductions. What percentage of our salary can we expect to pay in both federal and state taxes? Will the percentage increase if our income goes about $100,000 in the coming year?
Do I need to file taxes in California if I was a student out of state, and changed residency in August? I went to college in Maryland for 4 years, but remained a California resident. While living in Maryland I earned nontaxed (scholarship) and taxed (but claimed exempt from state) income. I moved to Virginia and became a resident in August and earned only nontaxed (scholarship) income. Do I need to file as a resident or a non resident of California (or file at all)? Do I need to file as a part time resident of Virginia?
State Taxes: How to Handle Part-Year Returns in 2 States? I have a state income tax question about part-year returns when living in two different states. I was employed by the same employer throughout the year, however, I was lucky enough to get on to a work-at-home program, so I started working from home and moved back to PA. So, from 1/1/08 - 5/14/08, I live in Virginia and 5/15/08 to 12/31/08 I lived in PA -- I recently finished the state income tax return for part year, but realized that I never changed my withdrawing status from my employer. So, my state tax was being withheld as VA resident for the entire year. I changed it for the start of 2009. Now, when I finished the returns, i'm getting a hefty refund from VA and need to pay a decent amount to PA. I am curious if my liability for tax based on where I lived had anything to do with my how my employer withheld taxes. That is, would it look 'fishy' if i'm to get 60-65% refund of my VA state taxes paid and then pay PA almost $1800 without ever filing with my employer that I moved to PA. (Well, I did change my address with HR, but not my tax information). Any input is appreciated. I don't want to file until i'm certain this is acceptable. I'm curious that, really, how do they determine if i'm truthful about my move dates and where i'm living, etc. If it helps, my drivers license was and has always been from PA. I moved to VA back in 2005 and never changed it -- I know, that's not good, but I always figured my residence in VA was temporary. I guess it took ~ 3 years to get back to PA, heh. Thanks. In reply to ernesthinton: Would you mind pointing me to information regarding the 6 months? I noticed VA has it that if you were a resident of VA for more then 183 days, then you're considered a full resident for tax purposes, but I could not find an equivalent definition in PA. In the instruction booklet for PA form 40, it states that you are a part-year resident if you moved into or out of PA during the year, and that's all it says, nothing about specific amount of time spent in/out of PA. I'm not trying to argue with you, just trying to get my facts straight. Thank you.
Do you have a file a state and federal tax return if the only income is social security? If all I get is social security income.. have no other income at all.. then do I even have to fill out a tax return for fed and state? I'm in Virginia btw.
I just got compensated for medical bills from a car accident, do i have to disclose it as income on my taxes? The money i got was not even enough to cover all the medical bills. The bills date back to 5 years and i have paid all of them as they came up personally. Do i have to pay any kind of taxes federal or state(virginia) on the settlement money.
State Income and Social Security Tax for those working abroad.? Please, I need only informed answers with solid evidence or from someone who is an expert in the field. Say, for example, that I am a Virginia resident. I plan to work abroad, in Vietnam, for a company with no ties WHATSOEVER to the United States, not even with any US affiliates. What is the best way to legally avoid paying SS and State Income taxes? I plan on putting my wife's name to all of my belongings at home, including the house, cars, etc, so I own nothing in the states. Could I remove my residency from VA and establish residency to a new state, that which does not charge income/SS tax for expats? If so, which of the 50 states do not charge the taxes? Thank you very much in advance.
My wife and I just sold private stock worth $188,100. What will our total state and federal taxes be on this? We live in Virginia. Total household income is $84,000. The private stock was free to us (me) years ago from a family business worth about $85 million. What will be our federal and state taxes on this check?
Do I have to file taxes in the other state I worked, although I traveled every week and it was only half year? I am a consultant with a big 5 and last year I traveled every week (flew out on Mondays and flew back on Thursdays) to Massachusetts. I did that for 6 months and then came back to work in Virginia (my home state). In my W2 I have both states, should I file in MA and VA or should just file in VA and ask MA to return the income they withheld?
Do I need to pay Virginia state tax for money made in another state? Hello, I moved to Virginia in July 2008 from Florida, where I was a student. Now I am filling in the VA state tax forms, do I need to add the money I made in Florida to my "Federal Adjusted Gross Income" column in the form? i guess what i am wondering is if i need to pay VA taxes for the money i made in Florida. My other question is in my W-2 form in section 12, I have entries for E, C, and P, I just subtracted E from the Wages. Is that correct? what do I do with entries C and P. I appreciate your help and time, thank you very much!
How much percentage does Federal and State take from business income? Im starting a business and starting to realize this: is the Federal gov and State (virginia) taking 40-50% of my profits? For every 100 dollars I have to give up $50 in taxes??
Question on a Virginia tax Return? My husband is in the military, so all of his state taxes get paid to the state that he originally lived in (Missouri). I worked in Virginia, where we lived (and where state tax returns are due today!) For all of last year. I filed our federal income tax return as married filed jointly. It seems that Tax Cut thinks that my husband owes all of Virginia's income taxes that he didn't pay (because he was taxed in Missouri). I tried filing state taxes as married filed seperately (different from how I filed my federal taxes) and it keeps asking me what my husbands adjusted gross income was. How can I find this out? We filed federal taxes together, not seperately! I guess this isn't a horrible problem, as VA allows an autimatic six month extension to file, but while I'm working on this, I'd really like to get to the bottem of the problem and get it over with!!!! Thanks!!!
"State" income tax question? I have a kinda complicated situation: I applied for and accepted a summer internship in Washington, DC. However, when I got there I learned my office was at an annex building in Virginia, so I worked mostly in VA, but I often had to work at the main office in DC. I lived in DC. Also, I was paid out of the office in charge of the intern program, which is in DC. My money, however, came from the organization's financial center, which is in South Carolina. I paid some "state" income taxes, and am probably entitled to get the money back, but how do I find out who took the taxes and who I file with? As if this couldn't get more complicated, I used my "home" address is California as my address because that's where W-2s would be sent.
Question about filing in Two States...Virginia and Louisiana.? I am a Virginia Resident who worked in Lousiana for a little while. My FAGI is $11,000. My Virginia taxes withheld are $180. My Lousiana taxes withheld are $113. I did my VA taxes, and it says I owe $47. Is there a way to specify that some of this income was in LA, and that I paid them state taxes, so I won't owe anything in VA? There is no where on the VA form to tell them that some of my income was in another state and that I already paid taxes on it. Thanks in advance.
Income tax question about multi-state filing. My wife and I moved from WV to Oregon in early December 2005... But we still owned our house in West Virginia, which did not sell until March of 2006, even though we listed it immediately upon moving. We did NOT live in WV at all in 2006, nor did we make any income, except a small profit on the sale of our house. The amount we made on the sale was well below the married couple exemption of 500,000 dollars, and we were in that house for 5 years before we moved and sold it. So, the question is: Do we need to file a 2006 state tax return for WV, given that we did not live there, nor make any income there in all of 2006 other than the profit from the house sale?
my wifes employer is in virginia and she is on work visa and she works for afirm in newyork.? my wife works on H1b visa (WORK) and her employer is based in virginia and she works for a firm in newyork thru her sponsor and she pays virginia state tax.I am married to her and how can I file VA state taxes and do i need to add my income also into it. I work in florida and my wife is in florida and she does her work thru remote acces via computer? what all ways can I file VA taxes??
Need Tax Advice (State Taxes)? I live in Idaho, but did an internship back east this summer. I rented an apartment in Maryland for 10 weeks, but actually worked in Virginia during that time (Virginia was my duty station but I was a civilian employee). I can't figure out if and where I would need to file a non-resident tax return, Maryland or Virginia? I lived in Maryland but worked in Virginia, and I would be considered a non-resident of both states. My thinking is that since I earned the income in Virginia, I should file a resident return for Idaho and a non-resident return for Virginia, but I don't want Maryland coming back on me claiming that I should have filed the return with them. This is all very confusing - please help!
VA resident twmp working in SC? I currently reside in Virginia. I am registered to vote, hold a Virginia driver’s license…etc. What If I take a temporary job (6-9) months in SC, do I have to change anything? Will I file VA or SC state income tax for 2008? Will I have to change my driver’s license to SC?
I worked for the same company but in 2 different states. How do I file this online? I've gone through the process of doing it with H&R Block online (the DIY way). I made a total of about $3,000 with a company, some in Ohio, some in Virginia. On my W-2's, it has the same total of wages, but it's different near like box 15. The problem comes when I have to account for both of these W-2's online with H&R Block b/c if I enter it as my W-2's say, it counts my total wages twice. I tried to zero out the wage entries for one of them, and when I neared the end it told me I was ineligible to e-file due to one of my W-2's claiming $0 in wages. Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to explain and can help! Example of how I entered info for Ohio: W-2 #1 [1] wages $2,961 [2] fed tax W/H $111 [4]SS tax W/H $184 [6] Med Tax W/H $43 [15] State OH [16] State Wages $1,511 [17] State Income Tax $6 ---- Example of how I entered VA: W-2 #2 [1] wages $0 [2] fed tax W/H $0 [4]SS tax W/H $0 [6] Med Tax W/H $0 [15] State VA [16] State Wages $1,450 [17] State Income Tax $20 I think I'm just going to try to split up the amounts based on box #15, then on the second w-2 claim or whatever, just 0 out the medicaid, SS, ect. Oh, and not that it's your business, but my husband is in the Army and we're in South Korea. I went through heck and back trying to get these W-2's to me, and I just got them last night.
Tax on My Rent Income? I recently rented out my one-bed room condo at $1200. How much tax (federal and state) do I have to pay for the rent income at the end of the year? I am living in the state of Virginia. Thank you in advance.
Maryland citizens...? do you get charged a state income tax AND a local income tax? and what is the percentage of each if you make 40K. how does that compare to dc and virginia?
In the state of Virginia can they take your home if you file bankruptcy, the home is paid off? my spouse (not me ) is over 40K in debt he is retired and gets a monthly income of about 1,800.00 after taxes. I would like for him to file bankruptcy, he wants to save his credit and take out a loan on the home to pay the credit off. (which sounds good because it would to cheaper to pay the loan back and he can pay it back in about six years) but my thing is that the 1,800 is all that he has as income, with the economy if his company says they have no more money to pay pension we will be out on the street. What do you guys think would be the best. If their ae any bankruptcy lawyers logged on please type in your info so when can call and speak with you.
Why have churches sold out to the government? Obtaining Corporation Status (501c3) is Against God The word "church" is not meant to refer to any physical building, but refers to the worldwide body of believers in Christ. The word "church" (ecclesia in Greek - called out ones) does not refer to any organization, no matter it's name or legal status. Keep that in mind when reading this article. It is time for Christians to wake up and turn back to God. We need to turn to the Lord and repent of our sins that we have committed against Him. We need to ask for forgiveness of tolerating idolatry that removes His Sovereignty over His Church. To see that the Church is in grave danger we must have a clear understanding of what a corporation is. We also need to realize what the courts have ruled about corporations and that a corporation has no rights, only privileges, granted by the "estate." To become a corporation removes the authority of the Lord over a corporate church and puts it under the bondage of man's law. According to man, The State is Sovereign over its Corporations 1. "A corporation is a creature of the state. It is presumed to be incorporated for the benefit of the public. It receives certain special privileges and franchises and holds them subject to the laws of the state and the limitation of its charter. Its powers are limited by law. It can make no contract not authorized by its charter. Its rights to act as a corporation are only preserved to it so long as it obeys the laws of its creation. There is a reserved right in the legislature to investigate its contracts and ascertain if it has exceeded its powers" (Hale v. Henkel, 201 U.S. 43) 2. "[A corporation is] an artificial person or legal entity created by or under the authority of the laws of a state. An association of persons created by statute as a legal entity.... The corporation is distinct from the individuals who comprise it (shareholders).... Such an entity subsists as a body politic under a special denomination, which is regarded in law as having a personality and existence distinct from that of its several members." Black's Law Dictionary West Publishing Company, 1991; 6th Edition, page 340. 3. "A corporation derives its existence and all of its powers from the State and, therefore, has only such powers as the State has conferred upon it. Power is used here to mean the legal capacity to execute and fulfill the objects and purposes for which the corporation was created, and the source of this power is the charter and the statute under which the corporation was organized." Len Young Smith and G. Gale Roberson, Smith and Roberson's Business Law, West Publishing Company, 1966, page 796. A corporation derives its existence and all of its power from the State. The church on the other hand was created by and is the body of Christ. We belong to Him and we are subject to Him and His Laws. The source of any church's power is supposed to be the Holy Spirit; it's authority to function solely from God. 4. "Corporate existence is a privilege granted by the sovereign upon compliance with specified conditions" Len Young Smith and G. Gale Roberson, Smith and Roberson's Business Law, West Publishing Company, 1966, page 931. . 5. "Corporations are not citizens.... The term citizen... applies only to natural persons... not to artificial persons created by the legislature" Paul v. Virginia, 8 Wall. 168, 177; see also the Opinion of Field, J., in the Slaughterhouse Cases, 16 Wall.36,99 The Word of God teaches us that Christians, His Holy Church, are citizens of the household of God (Eph.2:19). 6. Every corporation has obtained a charter from the State of Incorporation. This charter is simply permission to exist given to the corporation (by the State!) without which, its operations would be considered illegal. In addition to the charter are the articles of incorporation: "The objects or purposes for which a corporation is formed are expressly stated in its articles of incorporation, which delineate in general language the type of business activities in which the corporation proposes to engage" Smith and Roberson's Business Law, West Publishing Company, 1966, page 798. 7. "Instances of non-profit corporations are educational institutions, athletic clubs, library clubs, fraternities, sororities, hospitals, and organizations which have exclusively a charitable purpose" Smith and Roberson's Business Law, West Publishing Company, 1966, page 789. (Note: The purpose of the church is not "charity," nor is it's purpose exclusively charitable. Charity should be a function of every church, but is certainly not it's purpose. Offering worship to God, evangelism to the lost, and the fellowship and equipping of the saints are among church's exclusive purposes. (gm) The Lord is Sovereign over His Churches : Jesus is the Head of the Church, not man Paul compares the special relationship of Christ and His church to the God giving relationship of man and wife. What can be closer or more special then this? Would you bring another person into your marriage to control it with worldly principles? I hope the answer is no. Then why would you bring in a "fictitious entity" no less created by the state and man i.e.: corporation, to run and regulate something that belongs to the Lord? The relationship with Jesus and His Church belongs to Him alone. He is the Head of the Church and as such He governs it with His Laws, Principles and Directions. After all He is our King and is Sovereign over His Church. To become a corporation in effect divorces the church from Christ. We also commit idolatry by putting something before Him. Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Christ is the Saviour of the body (the church); not the state. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. The church is subject to Christ not the state. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Christ has purchased the church with His own blood. The State can give nothing for the church and should give nothing to the church. 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. The church should be holy and without blemish, to mingle the church with the state/worldly system is to bring spot and wrinkle to the church because of what the state/world does and says, homosexuality, abortion, adultery and many other things are acceptable, they pass laws making them that way. This goes against God; should the church be partakers of that? 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: The Lord nourishes and cherishes the church. Throughout history the state has tried to destroy the church. It still does through legislation trying to control all aspects of the free and corporate church. 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. The church is a living organism with a living head and body. Therefore the church is not a religious organization. It is possible to be a religious or charitable organization without being a church. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. The church is to be joined unto Christ. In Matthew Jesus used the word cleave. I do not see that the church is to be joined to Christ and the state. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. He speaks of the relationship that the church is supposed to have with Christ. One that is supposed to be holy and true. One, that's with each other without interference, blessed. Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church Christ is to be all things to the church. He is in Charge and Head of the church not the state. The state is under His feet, it is the footstool of the Lord why put it ahead of Him? 23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. KJV There are more Scriptures that would support that Jesus is the sole authority over the church. Most of us Christians know this and believe this. I challenge my brothers and sisters to find them. Study them, to see if the Truth is being brought forth. Jesus Christ Should Be The Head Of The Church - Why Then Incorporate? Many people for some reason think that a church has to. This is far from the truth on a few different levels. Here in the United States of America a church does not have to incorporate at all to be recognized as a local body of believers. (Not sure why they would want recognition from the state anyway.) I know some of you are thinking "Well, Romans 13 says..." Most of us have been taught that whatever the government says, goes. Wrong! If the government passes a law that interferes or contradicts one of Gods law we are not bound to follow it. There are examples of this in the Bible ; we have all heard the story of Daniel and the lions' den. To think Christians are bound by the laws of men, when it comes to the work of the Kingdom, is just stupid. If this were the case the church in Russia, China, Middle East and other places - if they listened to Romans 13 the way it is applied now - would never have seen growth. How about the brothers/sisters that smuggled Bibles into the old Soviet Block, China, Cuba and others? Whose law did they break? Man's. The local government's. They may be held accountable for their actions by men, they might even lose their lives. Guess what? God will reward them for their actions. They were doing the work of the Kingdom. I know most of us have heard that Federal law supercedes state law. State law supercedes county, city and town law, and so on and so forth. Guess what? The law of God supercedes all of man's law when it goes against His own (Acts 4:18-19). The point is even if there was a law requiring churches to incorporate we would not be bound to do so. In doing so we would be removing the Lordship of Jesus and giving it to the state. Thank God we have not reached this point yet in this country but don't be fooled, its coming. Why then do churches incorporate? 1. They think they have to. 2. They feel it gives them some benefit. 3. They think it gives them prestige. 4. Asset protection. 5. Think it's the only way gifts are tax deductible. 6. Think its okay with God. 7. They have always done it that way. The list could go on, I'm sure we could all find some earthly reasons why we think incorporating would be a good idea. We Still Think It's The Law - Show me Otherwise If you still think it's the law and that would make any difference to you in your relationship with the Lord, I will show you differently: "Congress shall make no law regarding an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (U.S. Constitution, First Amendment). According to the Internal Revenue Code, "a church, its integrated auxiliaries, and conventions and associations of the church are excluded from taxation." United States Code, Title 26, 508(c)(1)(A). Section 508(c) of the Internal Revenue Code provides that churches are not required to apply for recognition of Section 501(c)(3) status in order to be exempt from federal taxation or to receive tax deductible contributions. Churches are automatically exempt from Federal income tax, and contributions to churches are deductible by donors under section 170. Elsewhere, the IRS states: "Although a church, its integrated auxiliaries, or a convention of churches is not required to file Form 1023 to be exempt from federal income tax or to receive tax deductible contributions, such an organization may find it advantageous to obtain recognition of exemption (Tax Exempt Status for Your Organization, IRS Publication 557). Just what "advantage" is there for a church in obtaining 501(c)(3) recognition and thereby exchanging its sovereignty for a subordinate status in relation to the federal government? Most people would answer that such grants the church exemption from taxation. However, we have already seen that the federal government has never been able to tax the Church of Christ; the Church is not exempt from taxation, it is immune. The "advantage" is something else entirely: "By establishing its exemption, potential contributors are assured by the [Internal Revenue] Service that contributions will be deductible" Tax Exempt Status for Your Organization, IRS Publication 557. The tragic irony of all this is that, according to the Internal Revenue Code, financial donations to an unregistered, unincorporated church are automatically tax-deductible (26 USC 170-B). The government has no constitutional authority over the Church. It is not allowed to violate the First Amendment protection that the constitution provides. In fact the government may not infringe on any of our constitutional rights at all. They have found a way around this of course. To hold out an unbiblical advantage hoping an ignorant clergy person will take the bait and bring the church into voluntary compliance by forming a 501( C )(3) corporation, thus placing the church under the authority of the state. Once the church has been transformed into a corporation it then becomes subject to control by federal and state governments. In truth an incorporated church is no longer a church!! but merely a non-profit organization. Once a church incorporates the new non-profit organization is subject to total control by the government. You will be controlled on who you hire, what you can and cannot preach. You cannot conflict with public policy nor assault the hearer's sense of mental well being, self-esteem, sexual orientation etc. You can be sued. The IRS prohibits such organizations from "carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation" (26 USC 501-C-3). This prohibition extends, not only to the endorsement of a political candidate, but also any other attempts to "influence legislation," including taking a public stand against such government-protected abominations, such as abortion or homosexuality. Now, the church is discovering that favors from Washington, DC have strings attached. In this case, the string is a rope that is being used to throttle her once-powerful voice, to squeeze out her very life and, eventually, to hang her by the neck until dead! History Of Our New Nation: One of the reason people came to the new land was to get away from the entanglements of the old world. Quite a few of the reasons dealt with the issue of church and state. People where fleeing a repressive regime where there was a state-sponsored church or the church was running the governments. It was bad enough that people picked up and left. Now we seem to be returning to what our forefathers left on our own free will. We are taking a license to preach from the state, being told what we can and can't say. One of the things that inspired Patrick Henry's speech "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death" was, he saw a man being beaten for preaching the gospel without a license. If we forget history we are doomed to repeat it. We as Christians need to wake up and take a stand. One thing that sticks in my mind is when I got married : "By the power vested in me by God and the State of California I now...." What Do I Do Now? (This section will not be favored by corporate Pastor/Ministers.) 1. You became incorporated, become unincorporated. 2. Talk to your Pastor/Minister about this important issue. 3. Rescind your membership in an incorporated church. 4. Don't incorporate. 5. Don't support incorporated churches. 6. Find an unincorporated church. 7. Start an unincorporated church. 8. Study Your Bible Daily. 9. Pray for the Body of Christ. 10. Witness and lead people to a personal relationship with Jesus. I know finding an unincorporated church will be a real chore, as there are not many out there. There is also a real need to hear and study the word. If you must go to an incorporated church I suggest not becoming a member. I know this is not the norm but we have to remember who the head of the church is, and especially, that we are not join to ourselves to a harlot. Churches which have (knowingly or not) substituted the authority of Christ with sinful man's demonically-influenced word system fit this description. This issue has weighed on my spirit for a long time. I'm guilty of idolatry for finding things to put before Him in the writing of this paper. I was led to write this and now it's almost done. I only pray that God will get the glory, eyes and hearts will be opened and His Will be done. I realize this paper will not make me many friends. I know this, but that was not the point. I pray people will take the time to search out what The Word has to say on this issue. I'm certain many people will come to the same conclusion and we can restore the Lordship of Jesus Christ to his rightful place over HIS church. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. military spouse....how do i file joint on federal but 2 seperate states????? my husband is in the army and we are stationed in virginia. he files his state taxes in his home of record which is oklahoma and because i work and pay state taxes to virginia that is were i have to file. i know that we can file joint on our federal. but how can how can we go about filing in 2 seperate states when you have to use your adjusted gross income from federal form 1040a ? do i have to figure out our seperate adjusted gross income and use that or does it have to be our combined adjusted gross income? this stuff is all so confusing. you would think the government would make it easier for us spouses and let us choose if we wanted to file in our military spouses home of record. thanks in advance for any help on this matter.
Tax HELLp!! What should we pick as residency status for Michigan and Virginia? My husband moved to Virginia last March. I stayed here in Michigan in the home that we jointly own. We are married filing jointly for Federal, Michigan, and Virginia 2007 taxes. His name is listed first on the taxes since that is how we have filed in years past, but we are using the address here in Michigan. What do we pick as residency status for each state? Full- time, part-time? He is technically a VA resident - has a DL home, income there. I am a Michigan resident, and we own real estate here. I don't think it matters for 2007 taxes, but we just divorced in March 2008. The question is not whether we should file jointly (we plan to file jointly for both Michigan and Virginia). What I want to know is residency status to check for each state - my husband was a resident of VA from 3/07 on, and I was a resident of Michigan for all of 2007. Do we file "full time resident" in Michigan because we own property here, or "part-time resident" because my husband moved to VA? Or do we have to file separately across the board to fix this problem?
Ebay and NY and VA tax questions, trader assistant questions, proxy selling? I'm a new eBay seller looking for information about 1. eBay and Sales Tax requirements in New York City/State as an individual seller, making no more than $50 monthly from current sales 2. also what the income cut-off is for reporting income taxes from such sales in Virginia and New York. 3. Information on Proxy selling (as a trading assistant) and related tax issues to both the seller and assistant Anything you can muster as an answer is appreciated. in response to "mister" 1. how do I get a tax id and what makes me qualified to get one? 2. what are types of sales taxes in NY (if there is more than the 8.something I know it to be) 3. what if I'm selling an item at a lower price than I bought it, therefore not making a profit... do I report it on my income? do I have to report anything if my income from the sales is under a certain amount or does this apply to all sales?
Lotto Winnings (Power Ball)? I saw in a news report today about how a group of women won the power ball. The report also stated the the state of West Virginia also won in the form of taxes since that was the state the women lived in. The report states that each person won about 12 million after taxes (about 17 million before taxes). That’s about 5 million in taxes each; in the form of income tax. My question is; couldn’t the winners opt to pay the tax on the winnings ant the end of the tax season after they file their taxes for 2008? The interest in just the 5 million that was taken for taxes would pay for its self. And the winners would continue to benefit from the money other than just handing it over to the government.
child support? does child support has to be claim as income on state and federal tax returns? i live in virginia, if that helps.

Does anyone else see a problem with this or is it just me? Border agents recruited for Iraq duty A military contractor is recruiting current and former agents with the U.S. Border Patrol to teach Iraqis how to secure their national borders. The U.S. State Department has asked Virginia-based DynCorp International to find 120 people with Customs and Border Enforcement experience to go to Iraq for the training. The company already has 700 police trainers in Iraq. The department made the request for border security trainers in late March. Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano said she was worried that DynCorp's effort is distracting from security along the U.S.-Mexico border. She and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson wrote President Bush this week to say the deal "makes no sense." "We should be focused on supporting our nation's security efforts along the Mexican and Canadian border instead of hampering (the Customs and Border Patrol) by sending our best agents to a war zone in Iraq," the governors wrote. Agent Shannon Stevens, a Border Patrol spokeswoman, said the number of personnel DynCorp is looking for is "a very small number compared to the agents we have." DynCorp is offering recruits $134,100 for a one-year stay, plus a $25,000 signing bonus. The first $90,000 in income is tax free, and housing and food are free, company spokesman Gregory Lagana said. Border Patrol agents with at least two years' experience make roughly $55,000. Arizona's Tucson sector employs 2,600 agents, and there are more than 13,350 nationwide It seems contradictory. OK there but not here. And yes I want the war over. Some great answers
Virginia part-year tax return? My son moved to CO in late July for school. He worked both in VA (earned under $3000)and CO. I am guessing that he should file part-year returns for both states. Right? Also, I was using a tax software for his part-year VA return, and on the return there were no entries for prorated personal exemption, prorated standard deduction (he is claimed on our return), or taxable income. Is that correct? I think there is a problem somewhere, unless there is something in VA's code about low income. Any help will be appreciated. He is not still a VA resident. He registered to vote in CO, as well as changing his driver's license. Because of this, would he still need to fill out part-year for both states? Also, any comment on the software results stated earlier? thanks. He intends to stay in CO well after graduation. As far as the software, when I input the tax info, the VA part-year form has "0" entries for standard deduction and personal exemption. Is the right? I think that the software is not handling the data correctly.
Tax Forms from Employer? I was laid off from a company in DC last summer. I moved away and now have another job. When I got my tax forms from the old company they had some of my income reported as living in Virginia, but I lived in Maryland the entire time. I asked them to correct this and the reply from was that this is common. This is the reply: "She said that your money has already been sent to the state of Virginia (right or wrong, they have it) and you need to file a non-resident tax return. As a non-resident you have no obligation to pay taxes, and you’ll get a refund. You may want to consider dong an “e-file” as I know I do that w/ my federal return every year & it processes even quicker, so that would allow you to get your $$ back from VA quicker. She said it isn’t that uncommon, so I can’t imagine any tax professional getting that much heartburn over processing it." Is this a big deal? I'm not sure. Are they responsible to correct this or should I just have to pay to file in another state.
I just sent this letter to my Senator. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my views? Since you gave me a brief history lesson on what is going on now, I would like to give you a brief lesson as well. The Constitution which is the "Supreme law of the land" was designed for one purpose and one purpose only. To limit the governments powers. As of today, there are many Federal laws which directly violate this "Supreme Law of the Land". If you were to read the constitution, there is an Amendment in there which says, powers not delegated to the federal government in the Constitution are reserve for the States. Where in the Constitution does it say that the Federal Governments job is mandate and regulate Health Care, Abortion, Drug laws, Income taxes, Education, Welfare, Airport Security, Etc. Etc. Etc. If these laws were to be Constitutional then Congress or the Senate would have to convene to add amendments to the Constitution, like the 18th Amendment. Prohibiting alcohol, why wasn't there just a bill that forced the illegality of it? Because it would be unconstitutional for the Federal Government to assume it had the powers to do so, unless the States gave up that right to the Constitution. As far as I know there are no Constitutional Amendments that validate any of these laws. That means that when they were illegally passed the Supreme court was to uphold it's duties and offices and verbally refute and destroy these illegal laws. They have not, more laws like this are passed every year and none of these people who's sole job it is to limit the powers of the Federal government stand up and uphold thier oaths. That is treasonous in nature, what is defined as treason? An act to circumvent the Constitution or ignore it completly. These laws are a circumvention of the Constitution and not absolving them is ignoring the Constitution. Voting for any Unconstitutional, therefore illegal law is a violation of the oath of office that everyone of you must take. It is the States sole responsibility to defend itself. It is the duty of the Federal Government to make sure of 3 things, first they are to make sure that no State or Federal law violates any part of the Constitution, Second it is to make sure that the country does not go into debt, third it is to make sure that WHEN we get invaded by another nation they rally the State militias together to create a national army to fight off invaders. Terrorism acts should be investigated by the State law enforcement, and those responsible should be punished. We do not create a permanent army to chase small groups of people around the world to make them pay for their actions. The States are to make sure that those who would do those acts are removed from within our society (the American society) while making sure that no ones rights are violated. To tell me that you therefore support the Fisa bill just not parts of it say to me that you do not understand the full purpose of your job. tell me, when you get elected do you swear to protect the Constitution or to protect the people from everything that may or may not go wrong? Think about that, people die, freedom should live. You do not protect freedom by circumventing freedom to do as you choose with bills because it's for our own good. That is not the job of the Federal government. That is the job of the State and local governments. The economies of the States according to the Constitution should all be locally controlled as well. It specifically States that the States are to create thier own money and that paper money is illegal. The President signs an executive order to create the Federal Reserve and yet again, the Supreme court does nothing to correct this illegality. If the States wanted to give up the right to do so, then a Constitutional Amendment should be made to alter the Constitution to allow the Federal government the PRIVELEDGE of attaining yet another right reserved for the States. Very very few of you in office are not in violation of the Constitution. That means that very very few of you are not commiting treason, whether you understood that, that's what you were doing. I would like to give you 2 more quotes of people in offices like yours "there are things in the Constitution that have been changed by events by time." Where does it give Congress or the Senate, or the Judicial branch, or the President to change the Constitution without voting on it? There is a specific procedure listed for this to happen. "The government is not always right, but I think we all know that we should do what the government says." Why do we have the second amendment? If you look up the thoughts and quotes of those who wrote the second amendment they were pretty specific about the fact that the second Amendment was not for hunting. I'll prove that in this quote "what is the militia sir, but the whole of the people minus a few public officials." What was the Supreme court deciding on a few weeks ago? Whether or not gun bans for protection were legal. Fortunately they did thier job (although there are some that portrayed that firearm protection was not for the people but for a militia because of the wording, but like the quote from those who wrote the Constitution portrays exactly what a miltia is, the people.) It scares me that I know more about your jobs than the people that actually hold the elected offices. At the time I would like to request that you uphold your oath and view the bills you are voting on in the manner in which your office was exacted. Not for my protection but for the protection of the best document ever written. The document that gives you the ability to do as you do. The document that protects your families freedom from oppression. Terrorism and war have always been around, there is nothing we can do about that. The best that we can do is to make sure that we are not the ones that are starting it. Which we do by putting embargos and restrictions on nations that do not do as we wish them to. We would consider what we do as an act of war if it was placed upon us. But since our might is greater we do it to others? I do not see the "safety" logic in that. Fighting wars for peace is like (excuse my language) fucking for virginity. When we fight wars, there is collateral damage. Innocent people who's lives are ended or made worse from our attacks. Those that live on in thier memory have sufficient reason to hate us. They will always be our enemy until they recieve closure. Usually in that instance, one good turn deserves another. They want to kill americans and make others suffer as they have suffered. That is an understandable human emotion. So fighting wars for peace breeds enemy dissent. Just like having sex for virginity would cause less virgins. It is that simple. We need to be out of the middle east and appologize for our ignorant actions. It will not get better for a generation or so, but those who would live on after that will no longer have sufficient reason to hate us. That is how you end terrorism. All of the terrorists have specific reasons listed as to why they do as they do. Every single one is because of some brutal thing happened to either them or thier countries that they want answered. What court do they go to when we do the things we do for peace? They have no closure and thier response is the only legitimate one that most would find as a way to recieve closure. Can we then really blame them for thier actions if our own would not be any different in thier place? Not that I am condoning it, but I certainly do not judge them for this. I certainly do not see that these people should not have the same rights as I. And I most certainly do not wish to give up my rights for protection against an enemy that our policies create. The History lesson that i would like to project to you is the one about the Alien Sedition act. The Alien Sedition act was created while we were at war with France. It stated that all french born American Citizens could be deemed "unlawful combatants" because we were at war. The Act was deemed unconstitutional but only after President Jefferson wrote a law that claimed that virginia and kentucky would succeed from the union if the law was not removed. During world war II the US locked up American japanese for thier own safety and because they could be "unlawful combatants". Today we are in a NEVER ENDING WAR ON TERROR THAT WE CREATE THE ENEMIES FOR and "any person who violates any State or Federal law which endangers human life" can be deemed an "unlawful combatant". This is the third time in history we have faced this exact same problem. This time, I think because TV has everyone convinced they should be scared, it might stick. If so, me writing letters like this to you could be deemed a terroristic action once S1959 is in place. The video clip I sent you yesterday shows the media calling for those that question the government to be locked away. You even hear one member of the news crew demanding that he get tasered. What is this country turning into? Why is it happening illegally? Why isn't anything being done to stop this insanity? Can you answer those for me? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6lNqEkeGxo&feature=related This is the clip I sent him regarding S1959 The Violent radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Bill that is being voted on Aug 1. Considering that we trade e-mails on an almost daily basis now. I know he reads them. also his last e-mail to me was far longer than mine is to him. I got a history lesson on why he thought Iran should be blockaded. Thanks for the grammar lesson though that is not the point but way to have an intelligent opinion about the content guys! It took me like 6 months to stop getting the standard responses. I think he actually started writing back his thoughts when I told him that he was a great man for voting against the FISA bill and I would tell my family, friends and coworkers that they should vote for him when his term came up. Then I actually got thoughtful responses back to my questions. But I am pissed he thinks we should blockade Iran for our safety.

Child Support Question? Ok... My ex was married, and he was behind on child support. so the IRS has taken his income tax check and is holding it. They sent it to the child support office and they said, they have to hold it for a max of 6 months incase the person he filed with ( wife ) wants to contest it. She has called childsupport and stated she is not contesting it, and they still won't release it. I've even called the child support division in Virginia, where this all originates. I need the money now, so I don't understand if the rule is to hold it for 6 months incase she contests it, and she's not contesting it, why they won't release the funds to me. It's very irritating. Anyone know what the next step should be? By the way, the withholding on his tax refund is called a 'Tax offset" and I've looked everywhere on the web. I don't know who to contact to get this rule revoked since she's not contesting.
Does anyone else see a problem with this or is it just me.? Thank You -some really added to this-very interesting
Towards a White Minority? Towards a White Minority Did you see those demographic stats in the New York Times last week? The Census Bureau estimated yesterday that from July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006, the nation’s minority population grew to 100.7 million from 98.3 million... Nearly half the children under age 5 are Hispanic, black or Asian... 80 percent of Americans over age 60 are non-Hispanic whites, compared with only 60 percent among those in their 20s and 30s, and 58 percent among people younger than 20... (Some of the quotes in what follows are from the NYT story; the others are from the actual U.S. Census Bureau news release from which the story is abstracted.) It is not news that white Anglo (i.e. white non-Hispanic — I am using “Anglo” just as a linguistic marker) Americans are heading for minority status. Bill Clinton was exulting over the prospect a decade ago. Interesting to see the numbers in detail, though, and the state-by-state disparities. Four states and the District of Columbia are “majority-minority.” Hawaii led the nation with a population that was 75 percent minority in 2006, followed by the District of Columbia (68 percent), New Mexico (57 percent), California (57 percent), and Texas (52 percent). The economic sidebars are interesting, too: [Demographer Dr. Mark] Mather said the three most homogeneous states — Maine, Vermont, and West Virginia — spent the highest proportion of their gross state product on public education. This reinforces a number of findings from recent years suggesting that people are much more willing to be taxed for the benefit of people like themselves than for the benefit of the Other. Old people already grumble about paying taxes to support extravagant educational establishments. As the racial generation gap opens up, with the oldsters being noticeably more white and Anglo than the kids being educated, the grumbling will escalate into action — most likely, the simple action of yet further residential segregation, the old and white-Anglo living here, the young and dark Hispanic living there. Though, of course, the unwillingness to be taxed to support the Other cuts both ways. How will a majority nonwhite young workforce feel about paying out income and Social Security taxes for the sustenance of old, white Anglos? I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I, at least, have looked forward glumly to my last days, most likely spent stuck, incapable, in some cruddy nursing home with a bunch of other helpless white geezers, my daily needs in the hands of resentful black and brown orderlies whose educations featured long catalogs of the wrongs done to Them by Us. Back of all that is the question: As white Anglos decline into a minority, will we see the rise of white-Anglo race consciousness? The common understanding at present is that open expressions of race consciousness are taboo for white-Anglo Americans, but just fine for everyone else. A leading black presidential candidate subtitles his best-selling biography “A Story of Race and Inheritance”; the main lobbying organization for Hispanics carries the proud title “National Council of the Race”; and so on. This word is, however, not available to white-Anglo Americans in reference to themselves, and white-Anglo Americans are indoctrinated from childhood to believe, or to pretend to believe, that race is an empty category. This taboo is left over from the old pre-1960s order of unassailable (as it then seemed) white-Anglo supremacy. It was really just a form of noblesse oblige, a patronizing courtesy from the vast-majority race, who owned and ran pretty much everything in the U.S. up to about 40 years ago, to minorities about whom they nursed a mildly guilty conscience. Noblesse oblige is a wonderfully satisfying, self-flattering attitude: “Look at me — not only powerful and rich, but gracious and kind, too!” Whether it can survive as white Anglos dwindle to minority status is not clear to me. It might: it runs strong today among the white-Anglo inhabitants of Washington, D.C., even though they are (see above) only 32 percent of the population there. I suppose it depends how the economics shakes down. Hispanics accounted for almost half (1.4 million) of the national population growth of 2.9 million between July 1, 2005 and July 1, 2006... The Hispanic population in 2006 was much younger, with a median age of 27.4 compared with the population as a whole at 36.4. It is quite possible that Americans alive today will live to see the nation become majority Hispanic. Did anyone ever think this would happen, prior to a few short years ago? Well into the 1960s, Mexico was an inconsequential place, a joke place, while the other Central American nations simply did not register at all. You went to Acapulco for an exotic vacation, got a nasty case of Montezuma’s revenge, and came home with some colorful handicraft trinkets to put on your mantel shelf. That aside, you never thought about Central America from one year’s end to the next. The highest level that Mexicans rose to in the American imagination was the vaguely sentimental portrayals in the works of southwestern writers like Willa Cather. The inconsequentiality was numerical, too. In midcentury there was one Mexican per four or five Americans. The place was underpopulated. The few thousand Mexicans who drifted across the border looking for work could easily be rounded up and deported if they became an inconvenience, as in Eisenhower’s famous “Operation Wetback.” There were no limits at all on legal immigration from the Western hemisphere until the 1965 Immigration Act, none being thought necessary. An annual quota of 120,000 was imposed by that act; but this was just a low-value bone thrown to key members of the Senate Judiciary Committee (Everett Dirksen and Sam Ervin) by Teddy Kennedy to get the bill through. Nobody cared about Hispanic immigration; no-one thought it consequential. Now there are 110 million Mexicans to the U.S.’s 300 million, with corresponding numbers of Hispanics further south. If you count the 20 or 30 million Mexicans actually living here, legally or illegally, the Mexican-American ratio must actually be about one to two. Unfortunately Mexico’s great late-20th-century population boom was boomier, and longer-lasting, than that nation’s economic boom, which fizzled out around 1980. Not only were mid-20th-century Central American populations numerically insignificant until recently; the economic gap between their sleepy, stagnant economies and our vibrant one was less then that it is today, after several more decades of sleepy stagnation on their part, vibrancy on ours. And so white-Anglo America slips into minority status. Probably we never wanted it to happen. Probably, if asked around 1970 whether it ought to happen, most of us would have said no. The topic never rose to the status of a major political issue among the mass of Americans, though. The coming presidential election will be the first in my lifetime to have immigration as a major theme. If Americans minded what was happening, they didn’t mind enough to stop it. To be sure, their indifference was aided and abetted by the late 20th-century browbeating campaigns by cultural elites on behalf of “diversity,” “political correctness,” and racial guilt; but Americans didn’t seem to mind those much, either — not enough to rebel against them in any significant way. If there is any large general historical lesson to be taken from all this, it is that a population as prosperous, secure, well-employed, and well-entertained as the white Anglos of late 20th-century America, and as confident of its own cultural superiority, cannot be made to care much about matters of ethnic identity, and may altogether lose the habit of thinking in such terms. Whether this ethnic insouciance will survive the coming great demographic changes, I don’t know. Things have gone so far now that there is very little we can do but wait and see.

I don't know the rules per state or what info is valid, or if there is enough information here.. we went through Jackson Hewitt, and swear we had a big ol' dumby. It may be right but he didn't seem to know what was going on and it took like 45 minutes. Also, my wife has an internship through the college she attends.. she works at an office but the college pays her wages. The school did not pay any social security tax during her employment as an intern. She contributed to SS: 413.00 Employer/ School contributed to SS: 00.00 So we were charged: 413.00 "which is the total amount the employer should have paid." Any idea guys? Help if ya can.... I do appreciate it.
