Do you have to file NY State income taxes if your income from that state is below a certain amount? My friend is being audited by NY from 2004. His income from Ohio was around $35,000, and as he moved to NY at the very end of the year his only 2004 NY paycheck was $200. He filed a federal and an Ohio state return, but did not file for NY. Now NY state is claiming he owes them nearly $3,000 based on his federal return and the $35,000 income they are trying to claim came from NY. Considering his NY income for 2004 was only $200, did he have to file a NY tax return? and if so does he owe the state the full $3,000 stated in the audit?

State Income Tax and Moving? Ok I currently live in a state that doesn't have state income tax (Wyoming) but planning on moving to a state that does have state income tax (Ohio) Any of the income that I make in Wyoming isn't taxable in Ohio then, right? There are 4 papers. I did e-file but I have to send these in somewhere. It says IT 1040 if that helps. This is my first time filing on my own and plus doing it myself online. My employer paid taxes to the wrong state, how do I fix it?!? I worked in PA until August then moved to Ohio and continued working for the same company. When I received my W2's (they sent me 2) they both show that I paid PA taxes. Therefore, I worked and lived in Ohio for 4 months and didn't pay any taxes here but I did pay taxes to PA where I was neither living nor working. My company said they cannot correct my W2. How can I report this income to Ohio to pay my state taxes there and get back the part that I paid to PA? Thanks
Where should I file my taxes? I earned income in two places this past year.? I worked in Ohio at my college, but I earned money on a couple of small investments that I have at home in Maryland. Do I have to file state returns in both places? I've worked in DC and only filed state returns in Maryland before. And if I do, do I have to report the income earned in Ohio on my Maryland forms, and vice versa? In addition, my income earned in Ohio was also subjected to a locality tax (which is actually higher than the Ohio State tax). Will I get that back?

Filing state tax return with Ohio unemployment? Hi, i collected unemployment in the state of Ohio for part of the year in 2006. I received my 1099G form from unemployment. (the equivilent of a W2 form) This lists my federal income tax withheld on it, but i dont see anywhere on it anything about state tax withheld. Does Ohios unemployment system hold out state tax on your unemployment check? I was able to fill out my federal return with no problem, but without knowing how much i paid in state tax (if any) im kinda lost on the state return. Im worried now that they didnt take any state tax out and im gonna have to pay it all now. Has anyone here collected unemployment recently? If so how do you work this in on your state return?

CA based LLC lending loans to Ohio based LLC. Does CA LLC have file Ohio state return (IT1140 and/or IT4780)? I know that it is a very complicated and precise question but I am trying my luck to see if anyone had experience similar to this. I am doing the TR on LLC based in CA, who is involved in investment/lending business (it's related to QEI, if anyone is familiar). My senior manager thinks that we don't need to file Ohio state return on a behalf of CA LLC but I have contacted Ohio tax department and I was told that we should because our CA LLC is involved in investment/lending business and interest income is the main source of income. Any ideas which one is a right answer?

federal adjusted gross income in ohio? My Federal Adjusted Gross Income = 30,000 My wife's federal adjusted gross income = 10,000 We are filed our federal taxes joint ant put we entered a federal adjusted gross income as 40,000. I worked in Ohio, but my wife worked in Texas. My wife doesn't have to pay state taxes. I am in the process of filing my Ohio taxes. Here is what the Ohio law say regarding adjusted gross income: U.S. Nonresident Taxpayers. If you and/or your spouse are not residents of Ohio and your filing status for federal income tax purposes is married filing jointly, then you must show the same adjusted gross income as on your federal income tax return. You must show this amount even if you or your spouse did not earn or receive any income in Ohio. See Ohio Administrative Code (Ohio Rule) 5703-7-18, which is available through our website at tax.ohio.gov What should I put as my federal adjusted gross income? a) 30,000 b) 40,000
Will Turbotax recognize double taxation in state taxes? I have worked and lived 6 months in Ohio in 2008 while I was a resident of Ohio. I earned around $30000. Then, I moved to New York, did not work but received severance pay around $20000. I received 2 W-2's, one has Ohio state taxes which correctly shows the $30000 I earned working there. However, the W-2 that has NY as the state has taken state taxes out of $50000 instead of $20000. I filled in my information in Turbotax but I'm not sure whether it recognizes double taxation. I went to the Ohio taxes website and filled out an I-file which allows for taking our income that is taxed by another state. After I filled it out, I owed significantly less. However, I can't really trust it. So does anyone know if Turbotax would recognize a double taxation? Well, the thing is that I actually played around with the data and it seems it makes no difference to Turbotax. There is something wrong here.
W2s and personal income taxes question? I lived in Ohio for half of 2007 and I have the W2, now I live in MN again (where I've always been) and got the W2 from my current job. I normally use software like TurboTax or the other big one out there (forget the name) to do taxes, but I've never done multiple state taxes. How much different is this? Can I use software for this? If so, would I be paying another $20 or whatnot to send this extra state tax form in?
How much money will i get back from my 2006 w-2's if i live in Lorain, Ohio? My wages were a total of $10,075.50. My federal income tax withheld was $1167.39. My ohio state tax withheld was $249.33. My local tax withheld was $201.30. Last but not least, my 2006 contributions for funds totaled $100.00.

I forgot to file my state taxes. Will I be fined? I don't think I owed any taxes for the state(I live in ohio). I filed my federal income tax return but didn't file my ohio on time because I had no idea what was the correct form to use. Now I'm worried that I'll owe fines or something. I haven't gotten anything in the mail notifying me about not filing state taxes and I know nothing about what to do. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Do I pay state and city taxes in each state I worked and pay state taxes in my resident state? As a consultant I traveled to VA and Philly for work. I’m an Ohio resident and my employer is in Ohio. I spent about 8 months traveling between VA, Philly, and Ohio. I would fly to my visiting city Monday then fly home on Thursday. Ohio taxed 100% of my wages for a state tax, VA taxed the wages earned in their state, and Philly gave me a local tax on the income earned in their city. Does it matter that I commuted weekly to work, stayed in hotels during my travel, and my legal domicile is Ohio? Should I pay taxes in every state I acted as a consultant, even though my legal resident is Ohio, my employer is in Ohio, and I paid Ohio tax on all the income earned? I think I’ve been double taxed. How do I fix this?

How do I file OH state tax when I worked in another state.? Please help. I live in Ohio but worked almost full year in Taxes (which does not have state tax), do I have to pay income tax to OHIO? It will be huge because I did not get any state tax deduction in my paycheck while I was working in Taxes and now I have to file OHIO tax and my tax bill is huge. I have two W2s. One showing OHIO income and one showing TX income but OH is asking for tax on my entire gross income. I should see some CPA but thought I should ask here first. Thanks,
I received a earnings statement from the State of OHIO for a refund I received-do I have to report this? I usually have to pay State Tax so last year I got a refund and now I have to report it as earnings as I understand. Why do I have to report it as earnings and then pay income tax on tax paid? What a rip! Or am I misinformed? Please help!!
I live in Texas but work 6 days (about) a month in Cincinnati. How do I pay the least amount of taxes? I lived in Kentucky till Memorial Day so have paid Kentucky taxes. I work in downtown Cincinnati so pay local Cincinnati taxes and am having Ohio taxes withheld. I live in Texas which has no income taxes but fly in to Cincinnati about 6 days a month to help do my job. I work out of my office in Dallas the rest of the month. I am trying to either minimize my state taxes or avoid them altogether if I can. My employer is withholding Ohio and Cincinnati income taxes. I assume that I can pro rate my tax bill, is that true and how do I do that?
what is the approx % of taxes deducted from a paycheck - REVISED? I used to think they deducted 20%. My friend says 20%. Now I'm wondering if it is closer to 10%. Additional Details i am sorry for not adding enough details. i might have to repost. i am single, no dependents, in ohio, we have a state income tax.... im curious to know how much they will take out if i make $9/hr at $1440/mo or $12/hr at $1920/mo when i made a check for $218, they took out 9.6%. when i made a check for $401, they took out 6.7%. the overall amount of $619 - 7.5%. then i looked at a check i got the prior year for $450 and it was 7.4%, so i cant possible see where 20% or higher percent is coming from.. even 15%
How does this work? (I moved, most income was not made in state I live in now.)? On my federal taxes I have a gross of $50,500. I lived in Wyoming till July 2007. Now $46,295 of that gross was 'made' when I was in Wyoming. I say made because it came from social security and a sweepstakes win. I was trying to file Ohio state taxes, but it keeps trying to use the entire $50,500. In Ohio the only money I made was social security of $5,370. 1) Can't I just claim Wyoming as my place of residence last year as I lived there for more then half the year? (7 out of 12 months) 2) If I HAVE to file Ohio taxes how do I file using paper means and only put in the part that is taxable since I moved to Ohio? It is way not fair to try to take my entire federal tax amount as a basis of taxes when I didn't earn them in Ohio. And one other thing...Wyoming doesn't have any state filings. They don't have state income tax. So basically I just need to file in Ohio and put on paper the amount I made in Ohio. Thanks Ken. I just found out through the Ohio tax site that if you make less then $12,900 a year for a couple in Ohio you don't even have to file. Since we only made the $5,700 we don't have to. And Wyoming doesn't tax.
Part-year resident filing Pennsylvania taxes - what to do with Ohio W2s? I worked during January of 2008 in Ohio, until I was laid off. I then went back to my parent's home in Pennsylvania, changed my address and got a driver's license there. I received unemployment from the state of Ohio, which I had federal tax taken out of. In June I was employed back in Ohio. The only income that I think can be taxed in Pennsylvania is interest income from a CD account that accrued about $125 during the 2008-2009 year. So here comes the meat of the question: when I file my Pennsylvania income tax, do I need to include in any way the W2s from Ohio? Last year I had jobs both in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and did not submit my Ohio W2. Pennsylvania did want my Ohio W2, for some reason, I think the issue was that by claiming only the income from Pennsylvania, it gave me a larger refund that didn't reflect all the money I earned in and out of state during the year. I'm calling Harrisburg soon to chat with someone about this, but I wanted to see if there were any suggestions from the people on Yahoo. I'm contemplating just hiring a tax professional to deal with my State (Ohio/PA) and Federal tax. Quick detail: I resided in Ohio for both of my Ohio jobs - I did not live in Pennsylvania and commute to Ohio. For the W2s, those were purely earned while I was living in Ohio. (Two different addresses - one for my early job and one for my later, and now current, job.)
Whats the percentage? Here is a brief overview of my paystub, I want to know what percentage of money is taken out for; Federal Income Tax, Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax, and Ohio state income tax. I live in ohio my check before taxes was 708.75 Federal: -76.31 Social: -43.94 Medicare: -10.28 OH state: 13.47 Net pay (after deductions): 564.75 Tell me the percentage taken from each section of the check like how much for each tax, not the entire check. I want to know this becuase I want to be able to calculate my checks. I just started this job and I want to know what my checks are going to be like. Now although that check was only for half a week the percentage is always the same.
state income tax offset??? what does this mean? YOUR REFUND WAS OFFSET FOR: OHIO ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE does this mean i'm not getting my state refund? i already got my federal and when i went to check the state of my state this is what it said. can someone please help...thanks
They are taking my taxes for a school loan... How much can they take? I live in the state of Ohio... I got my state taxes back and now I checked the status of my federal return, and this is what it says.... "Your refund may be reduced to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. If this applies to you, the Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of any offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. Please do not call us to inquire about the details because we will not be able to answer your questions. Instead, direct any questions you have about the offset or debt to the agency identified on the notice." I dont owe child support and I got my state taxes back... so it must be my school loan ( which yes, is defaulted ) :( Is there a low to how much they can take? Or are they going to take it all? Im so sad!!!!!!
Why do I have to report previous years tax refund as income? I received an overpayment for my state taxes last year (Ohio). Now I'm getting an IT 1099G form where it states that I "may" have to claim my refund as income. How do I know if I need to or not? And anyway, how can they double tax you like that? Isn't that illegal? At least its an injustice.
In which state cost of living and taxes etc are more? CA or OH? Taking into account all costs like income taxes, sales taxes, uto isurance etc which state do u think is costlier state for living. California or Ohio
Work in one state live in another state? My wife gets paid through a company in Houston, TX. But she lives in Ohio. She didn't pay any state tax because in the state of Texes you don't have to pay state taxes. Does she have have to file taxes in Ohio? My other question is we already filed our federal joint. Can I file state taxes separately and subtract my wifes adjusted gross income?
Question abaut federal adjusted gross income? My wife is working for a company in Texas, and the state of Texas does not require her to file state tax. She lived in Texas from January to May. We got married in April and from May to December she lived with me in Ohio. She got two W’s one with her maiden name and another with her married name. Now we have to file state taxes for Ohio, and it is asking for Federal Adjusted Gross Income. Should I subtract her wages from January to May?
is gross income from sch. F earned income for a retired person for him and her equally with a rev. Liv. trust? In ohio state tax forms line 11 you are allowed a joint filing credit if you have earned income excluding social security, pension, interest or dividend income which I have. But I have a revocable living trust with my wife and I are trustees and all our posessions are in the trust. We also own a farm and file schedule F with a gross income so is this gross income considered earned income for both of us equally to be able to take the joint filing credit.
do i have to file city income tax for chicago? I am originally from Ohio and I'm pretty sure we had to file city, state and federal taxes individually. In Chicago though I don't know if I have to or not. I have filed federal and state but all of my searches online for city taxes have only turned up info for property taxes. I used to have my taxes prepared for me in Ohio but they don't know Illinois tax laws. I do not own a house or business either. Just wondering how the tax system works out here and whether federal and state is all I am required to file for.

State Tax question? I e-filed my federal and ohio state tax already. But I worked in illinois for 3-4 months and had income there. I never established residency and filing it under non-resident. My problem is that I can't e-file illinois state return because it's my first time filing and you must mail it in. I think from what i gathered I need a IT1040 and a scheduling R form or something. I was told that over the phone, but it was hard to understand her. So I may be ocmpletely wrong. Does anyone know what forms I need and where I can print them.
Tax question...? This is for my state income tax return. Line 59 states: Enter the portion of line 3 subjected to tax by other states while an Ohio resident. (I worked in California all summer) Line 3 is my Ohio adjusted gross income Am I supposed to put the entire amount of my Ohio adjusted gross income, or the portion of it that was earned in California?
Is Texas a nice place to live? (Answer especially if you live or have ever lived in Texas. Thanks!)? I've been to Texas and really liked it, particularly Galveston, Austin, San Antonio, and Ft. Worth. The people were friendly, weather was hot (of course), there is a diversity in geography and landscapes, the culture and history are rich, and it's really clean. I hope my impressions of the state are correct, because I really want to move there from Kentucky. Which areas of Texas would be the best to live in? I'm not a huge fan of Dallas and Harris Counties, but perhaps I can be swayed with a lot of convincing. Other places in Texas seem just wonderful. Oh, and not to mention, there's no state income tax (although it is made up in sales and property taxes, which still are comparable to Kentucky.) I'm a nice, friendly, polite, outgoing guy; while there are nice and not-so-nice people everywhere, I think I'd get along pretty well in Texas. By the way, to anybody from NYC, California, Ohio, or New Jersey: I ain't moving there, FYI.

Can anybody PLEASE give me a DEFINATE for sure answer on this? My husband and i have never been in a financial problem like this, infact i am a little embarassed to even let people know this, but i really need a little advice. For the last few years we have been paying on some small bills we owe from when we were younger and more careless. and we started with the small bills and were working our way up to the larger ones. Well now we are being taken to court by a creditor, and they are sueing my husband.. So my question is, can they go after our income tax? I tried looking on the internet and i found a site someone had asked that but there was one person who said yes and another one said no..I live in ohio... The person who said no said they cant touch your state or federal taxes only for child support and student loans and if you owe them money..Attorneys do not want to answer your questions over the phone, they want you to come in and pay them first..I really need to know this!

Hillary vs. Rudy on health care, is Hillary crazy? Hillary vs. Rudy on health care, is Hillary crazy Today’s health-care debate previews the fall 2008 election, if today’s presidential frontrunners win their respective party nominations. Senator Hillary Clinton (D., N.Y.) and former mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R., N.Y.) are promoting reforms that contrast like midnight and high noon. As Clinton cheers, Congress moves to reauthorize the State Child Health Insurance Program. Launched modestly in 1997, SCHIP was targeted at kids whose families were too prosperous for Medicaid, but too poor for private coverage. Like nearly every federal scheme, SCHIP is metastasizing. Clinton, her Democratic comrades, and some weak-kneed Republican appeasers are widening SCHIP into a self-contradictory contraption, complete with a tax hike and a fiscal blunderbuss. “It is one of our most important national priorities to cover all Americans, and that should start now with all of our children,” Clinton said July 16. Of course, it depends on what the meaning of the word “children” is. Washington already lets 14 states cover 670,000 “boys” and “girls,” up to age 25, some of whom have been drinking legally for four years and voting for seven. Ninety-two percent of Minnesota’s SCHIP budget insures adults. Clinton’s proposal, like the House Democrats’ bill, would cover children in families up to 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL), double today’s target. Thus, a family of four making $82,600 could receive federal-government medicine. Meanwhile — the Heritage Foundation’s Rea Hederman estimates — 70,000 “American families are both poor and high-income — simultaneously.” They qualify for SCHIP and the Alternative Minimum Tax. Madder still, 77 percent of children between double and triple FPL and 89 percent between 300 and 400 percent of FPL already have private health insurance, notes Cato Institute scholar Michael Cannon. Nonetheless, the Democratic House Wednesday night approved $47 billion for SCHIP through 2012, 88 percent above its current $25 billion, five-year budget. Senate Democrats would fund this extravaganza via a 156 percent cigarette-tax hike — from 39 cents to $1 per pack. Heritage forecasts that 22 million new smokers would have to light up by 2017 to keep SCHIP afloat. So, SCHIP promises to improve children’s health while exploiting adult tobacco addiction. And if those smokers never materialize, future Congresses simply will invoice smoke-free taxpayers. “The Left is pretty blatant about this being their vehicle to move to universal coverage,” one health-policy expert told me. “Make kids think you get health insurance from the government, and in less than a generation, you’re there.” While Democrats and some lily-livered Republicans ceaselessly invoke “the children” to impose government medicine, Giuliani does the reverse. His just-unveiled health plan rejects public entitlements and tax hikes and embraces private property and tax incentives to extend health coverage overall — beyond just kids. “America’s health-care system is being dragged down by decades of government-imposed mandates and wasteful, unaccountable bureaucracy,” Giuliani told New Hampshire voters Tuesday. “To reform, we must empower all Americans by increasing health-care choices and affordability, while bringing accountability to the system.” Giuliani specifically would grant uninsured families $15,000 tax exemptions, and singles $7,500, to help them buy private coverage that they, not their bosses, would own, control, and transport throughout their careers — much like car, home, and life insurance. Funds remaining after insurance purchases could be deposited tax-free into Health Savings Accounts for routine medical expenses. He also would let Americans acquire health plans across state lines, as they now do with non-medical insurance. For instance, unmarried New Yorkers, who now must buy such unneeded mandatory benefits as in-vitro fertilization, would be free to secure no-frills plans from insurers in, say, mandate-light Ohio. Giuliani also would curb malpractice costs by capping lawsuit damages and requiring frivolous plaintiffs to cover victorious doctors’ legal bills. “If a person gets injured, he should be compensated, but he shouldn’t get the brass ring or win the lottery,” Giuliani explained. Unlike President Bush, whose happy talk fuels Leftist disdain, Giuliani describes Democrats’ ideas with bracing candor. He calls their health proposals “heavily influenced by Marxism.” “We’ve got to solve our health-care problems with American principles, not the principles of socialism,” Giuliani says. “I know Democrats will say this is unfair, I know they’ll squeal…But I am a realist. I face reality, which is: If you take more people and have government cover them, it’s called socialized medicine.”
Is the education system in this country going to the dogs??? I live in nice suburban area in Ohio, and the Cleveland City Schools are pathetic!! I studied education and think it is very unfair that students who reside in low income districts are held to the same standards (proficiency testing) as students who attend very wealthy, comfortable, safe and well equipped schools. These students have new computers, new textbooks, state of the art science labs and gorgeous gymnasiums etc. Do you think it is right to compare students who attend a school with rats, leaky roofs, outdated books, poor heating and have old or no computers to students who attend schools that are so very advanced. Do you think that all of the taxpayer money should go into one pot and be divide up equally to each school district. As the children should not be held accountable for school's that are in such poor condition. I understand that we are in a higher tax bracket and have paid in more money. However, we are all a part of this country and I for one would like to see all children treated equal and given the same opportunities!!
How do I calculate the amount of income tax that will be taken from my paychecks? I live in akron, Ohio. I know that the city of Akron takes 2.25%. I just want to know how to figure out how much the State of Ohio and the Federal Government will take. Is there a formula? Is there a website that will give me the exact percentages or anything?
in the state of ohio can i appeal a custody case and ask it to be heard by another judge? my boyfriend has custody of his son and the mother is taking us to court to get custody. most likely she is going to win we are in champaign county and the judge is partial to mothers having their children. he was awarded custody after she ws put on probation for some felony charges then violated probation by o/d on heroin. she went to prison and has only been out a little over a year. we do not feel she deserves custody or at that matter can handle the situation. she has never held a consistent job nor has she even paid hardly any child support since 2005, and she was only ordered to pay 50 dollars a month. as of 2 months ago she was over a1000 dollars behind then they took her income tax and she is still about 800 behind. is there anything that we can do. we go to court on monday the 30th of june. thank you for all responses.
I worked for the same company but in 2 different states. How do I file this online? I've gone through the process of doing it with H&R Block online (the DIY way). I made a total of about $3,000 with a company, some in Ohio, some in Virginia. On my W-2's, it has the same total of wages, but it's different near like box 15. The problem comes when I have to account for both of these W-2's online with H&R Block b/c if I enter it as my W-2's say, it counts my total wages twice. I tried to zero out the wage entries for one of them, and when I neared the end it told me I was ineligible to e-file due to one of my W-2's claiming $0 in wages. Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to explain and can help! Example of how I entered info for Ohio: W-2 #1 [1] wages $2,961 [2] fed tax W/H $111 [4]SS tax W/H $184 [6] Med Tax W/H $43 [15] State OH [16] State Wages $1,511 [17] State Income Tax $6 ---- Example of how I entered VA: W-2 #2 [1] wages $0 [2] fed tax W/H $0 [4]SS tax W/H $0 [6] Med Tax W/H $0 [15] State VA [16] State Wages $1,450 [17] State Income Tax $20 I think I'm just going to try to split up the amounts based on box #15, then on the second w-2 claim or whatever, just 0 out the medicaid, SS, ect. Oh, and not that it's your business, but my husband is in the Army and we're in South Korea. I went through heck and back trying to get these W-2's to me, and I just got them last night.
Where to move: Texas, Kentucky, Ohio, or North Carolina? Why? I've been given a job offer: $75K/year, choice of four cities: Austin, Louisville, Cincinnati, Greensboro. I'd love to stay here in TEXAS, but have to do what is most economical. Here's what I know: 1. TEXAS: Live here now, love it, it's incredible. Here in Houston, it's awesome! Austin is a great place, too. Cost of living and property taxes are high, but offset by no income taxes--and friendly people and diversity of scenery. Closest to family in Shreveport. 2. Kentucky: Lived there for eight weeks, hated it. Rude and uncouthe people, generally. To be accepted, it's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know. Scenery is beautiful, though. Cost of living is the best of the four. 3. Ohio: Cincinnati is a great city. Rest of the state, sucks. Love Jungle Jim's, Coney Island, and WEBN fireworks, though. 4. North Carolina: I love that place! The natives are still pretty friendly. Several great cities and pretty mountains. Bio: age 28, single, no g/f, love live music, friendly! Thanks!

Which city: Austin TX, Louisville KY, Cincinnati OH, or Greensboro NC? I just got a transfer offer from my employer to move to one of four cities. No matter where I go, I will be paid the same gross income ($75,000/year). Here's what I know about the following places, since I've been to all four: -Austin: Since it's TX, no state and local income taxes. Property taxes are through the roof. Gorgeous city, great parks, almost non-stop nightlife, probably the friendliest and most laid-back of the four cities. -Louisville: Olmstead parks, nice countryside, big bang for the buck! City is becoming more ghetto. Lived there for 8 weeks and found the people to be very rude, closed, and impolite. -Cincinnati: BAD drivers. The rest of Ohio sucks. But, I LOVE Eden Park, Jungle Jim's, and WEBN fireworks! -Greensboro: High taxes, cost of living, everything! But very close to the Smokies and Shenendoahs. Natives are still friendly. Currently live in Houston. Age 28, single, no girlfriend, love live music, friendly and outgoing! Thanks in advance!

Ex is receiving gov. assistance, child support, tho she received over $100,000 inheiritance. Is this legal? I found out a few months ago that my ex-wife has my daughter on health insurance thru the state of Ohio. Also my child and her 2 other kids thru her current marriage are getting free/reduced lunches and she is getting food stamps. She also took me back to pay more child support (about $400 a month) so she can stop working full time to work part time causing her to make minimum wage. She stated to the CSA that she wanted to spend more time with the kids. She received over $100,000 (after taxes) when her mother passed away. I spoke when various lawyers and they have told me that an inheiritance does not count toward income, so why is she able to get all the government assistance? I pay 85% of the support for my child but is unable to claim her on my taxes every other year because she won't agree to it. I feel like the CSA is putting me thru the ringer because she is on government assistance while she gets over on everybody else. I'm sure if I got alot of money, CSA would be all over me. Just to clear things up, I am not complaining about paying child support. Just that a person who has almost $100,000, has a house that is paid off, leasing 2 or 3 new vehicles about once a year, quit workin full time voluntarily is getting food stamps/government assistance/etc. And somebody said that I am claiming my daughter on my taxes every other year????? I am not claiming my child ANY year. And Yvette, u say that there are alot of people without insurance, etc. You are right, but I am quite well sure their mothers don't have a house paid for and over $100,000 to their name. Seems like to me their are a lot of others kids that could use that assistance. Child support goes both ways. I drive over 600 miles a month for one weekend with my child, been doing it for 10 years. Anyone who wants to "read" into anything w/o knowing the whole story and start assuming that I'm a bad father can go to straight ti hell.

Lost Custody but was never taken to court or proved as an unfit parent is this legal? I went through a divorce. In my divorce I was awarded custody of my older son and got to claim him on my income tax and she got custody of our younger son and claimed him on her income tax. I also paid child support for my younger son. My son and I had a fight as children and parents often do. He went to his mothers because he was upset. I didn't have a problem with it at first. It's his mother. But somehow she had a paper that stated she had custody and they attached my wages for both kids. I was never taken to court or proved as an unfit parent in order to lose custody in any court of law. Is this legal? Are there any lawyers in Ohio that could help? Can I get custody back? How?
Please Read - - This is a very important topic !!!!!!!!?
Unearned Tax Credit...? Okay, my husband, myself and my son are on welfare. He and I are on it until SSI accepts our case. I read somewhere last year that some people can get money back for "unearned" income, what is that? I am in the state of Ohio. Thank you! Let me reword this. My husband and I are on welfare until we get our SSI. We are getting disabilty due to an car accident which has made us both unemployable. My husband broke his back, and myself, I suffered sever wiplash to my neck and also have slipped disc which is pinching nerves in my back. I am guessing since you are saying "go back to college" you are refering to the Yahoo name. I am using my neices name to ask since I do not have a Yahoo account. AND... I used the world "welfare" to lose I guess. We are on the State of Ohio Disabilty. What we get in cash gets paid back once we are accepted with disabilty. We 3 are on medical, and my son gets other assistance since he is only 8 months.
Another sign of a booming economy???? According to figures released by the Ohio Dept. of Jobs and Family Services, the number of people receiving welfare in the state has doubled since Oct. 2006. It is comforting, however, that there are people in Mexico and China who are not having any troubles paying their bills and are enjoying the jobs that once were in Ohio. This is the cost of an economy that is geared to helping the upper end of the income level. Don't be surprised when all that corporate profit gets lost to increased taxes to pay for food stamps for the idle working class. FYI. I am neither a liberal nor a conservative. I am a lion, in case you haven't noticed. Yes. I agree with those who pointed out that unions are a big problem with the jobs leaving Ohio. But, figures show that for every 1 union job that leaves Ohio, 5 non-union jobs evaporate. These are the job of the people who provided services, supplies, and products to the factories and the factory workers. Unions are a major problem, no arguement there. But most of the jobs lost are non union workers.
