What are the income taxes if moving to NYC or Washington DC? If I were to move to New York City, I know they have a city income tax, but not how much. But what of Washington, DC, or as opposed to moving to Arlington or one of the surrounding cities? In light of this extra expense, which would be better to move to if I wanted to minimize my income taxes?
How would the IRS know whether someone is not paying income taxes? Oh that is right, because they have no idea whether someone is working, until that person comes forth, to file for a form on income tax. Isn't it prepostrous how some people don't even bother to file for income taxes? The IRS has no way of knowing that people are earning money, and not even paying taxes. I think the law should be changed. What do you think on this issue? I can't help, but become angry just contemplating on this situation.
Do I have to file our income taxes together? My husband and I recently filed bankruptcy in 2006 together. Since income tax season is coming up, I am wondering if I have to file our income taxes as married, or can i file married but seperate. We have seperated but still remain married as of today. What is the minimum income one would have to earn before paying income taxes in Utah as of 2007? I found an awnser to this question but it is 10 months old, so the information to the question is outdated. If say, for example you made money on music lessons for 15$ per lesson and you have 10-20 clients depending on the month. And each client has once a week lessons. Let's see for example, you make $1000-1500/month. Would you pay Income Taxes? Or would you just file paperwork for the IRS to pay Social Security? I can research this question on the official internal revenue service but it might take a few hours before I find my awnser. But anyway if you can find the awnser before I do it would be nice.
Accounting Help Needed. This is income statement preparation where I need to find out what the income taxes ar I need to prepare an income statement for this company and determine what the income taxes are. The income tax is said to be 30% of the income before taxes, however I have not been able to figure out what the income is before taxes. The given information is as follow: A/P.....35,000 A/R.......65,000 Advertising expense....15,000 Cash...... 19,500 Supplies expense.....46,000 Rent expense........10,000 Utilities expense........3,000 Misc. Expense....4,400 Salaries Expense.....61,000 Fees (revenues)......384,000 Owner's equity.....140,000 It also states to assume that 7,500 shares of stock are outstanding, and I need to determine the income taxes (30% of income before tax) I do not know what the outstanding shares have to do with this because I do not have dividends as an expense and if they are outstanding that means that they are not assets because they belong to shareholders. I just need to get the income, so I can get the taxes. Please help....
Why pay Oregon income taxes if you live in Washington? We live in Washington but work across the river in Oregon. Oregon makes me pay Oregon income taxes but we do not get to vote in Oregon, we have no say in how their schools are run and even though we pay Oregon taxes, we get no "kicker' check (which can be close to $1,000 for some people) because we don't LIVE in Oregon. Isn't this taxation without representation? How is it legal? Thank you all in advance for your thoughtful answers.
What happens when you spend 3 years without filing your income taxes? My daughter's father owes her about a year and a half in back child support and she's only 5. He purposely does not file his income taxes just so they cant garnish them and she cant get her money. I know he's not exempt from filing because he makes atleast 40k. What happens when you dont file your taxes for 3-4 years in a row? At what point does the IRS come looking for you? Is there a number you can call?

Can 2 people claim a house on their income taxes if they are not married but joint owners? My friend and I bought a house this year. Now I am stumped as to what to do for income tax time. Can both of us file for the house on our income taxes or just one of us? What about the improvements we have done such as a new kitchen and new bathrooms and baseboards etc. Can that be claimed on income taxes as well? Someone please help!! My friend and I bought a house this year. Now I am stumped as to what to do for income tax time. Can both of us file for the house on our income taxes or just one of us? What about the improvements we have done such as a new kitchen and new bathrooms and baseboards etc. I read somewhere that "repairs" can not be claimed but "improvements" can be. I guess maybe if I was to itemize them? How would this work? Someone please help!! So since both of our names are on the deed and the loan and we split everything 50/50 then we can both claim? I guess I will need to get someone to assist with Taxes this year before I mess this one up!
Federal Income taxes, filing electronically and the time frame you received your refund? I filed my federal income taxes through Tax Engine electronically and I was wondering if anyone else out there who has filed an injured spouse claim form electronically could tell me the time frame in which they received their refund. (Mine should be direct deposited) Normally it's the middle of May when I do it by mail and the date they usually give me to receive it is always wrong, just wondering if the electronic filing system is the same because of this stupid form.
How do I combat income taxes? How do you not file any returns and still not be blamed for fraud or for not filing taxes? I looked it up myself and saw there was no law. There is nothing saying that I had to pay federal income taxes But how do I fight it if I see that the IRS withheld money from my paycheck?
Assuming the following is true, what is state income taxes used for? Property taxes generally fund your local school district and municipalities. Cities generally don't charge a sales tax but a 1-3% wage tax which they use to provide services in the city such as maintenance, police and civic services. Sales tax is generally collected on a state level and used to manage state services, courts, police and maintenance. Above came from another answer regarding the use of sales tax. So is the 1-3% wage tax this person is referring to, the state income tax? If so, why would that figure vary, the percentage I mean? Isn't that an apportioned tax? Why would each city vary the percentage?
Mortage Interest and Taxes for Income Tax? My wife and I file separate income tax returns. When deducting our mortgage interest and taxes is it ok for one of us to claim the interest, and the other claim the taxes? Both of our names are on the mortgage statements and accounts. How do US expats live with high income taxes in Belgium? I have been presented with an opportunity by my company (based in the US) to move to their Brussels office. I have read on several websites that the income tax is insanely high in Belgium and was wondering if I can do anything to offset it. Are there any tax breaks associated with being an expat? If so, how do I exercise them? If not, how do people normally live when more than 50% of their income goes to the government? I currently live in CT, where cost of living is relatively inexpensive, and I am only taxed 25%.

We just moved to Kansas. What are the laws on the income taxes for working/living in different states? My wife is a registered nurse and works at a hospital in Missouri (on the State Line), but we live in Overland Park (Kansas). They take out Missouri income taxes, but not Kansas. Will we have to claim income taxes in Missouri and Kansas? Isn't that illegal (double taxation)? We will claim federal taxes in Kansas (state of residency), but we are concerned that we are going to pay 40% in taxes versus our normal 20% bracket. HELP!!!

Income Taxes...? I have heard that if you make a certain amount of money, you are no longer taxes. I cannot remember what the number was...I believe that it was $68,000, but I believe I am wrong. But, besides that fact, I still want to know why this has been decided? What is the purpose of this exemption? (please don't go in too deep...) By the way, I heard this in the US.

Income taxes? Me and my boyfriend live together and just had a baby, he already has a child from a previous realtionship....who claims our baby me or him? My baby and I live in his apartment does that mean he claims her? I really support her though....he pays all the bills, and I pay for her formula, diapers and clothes...if it came down to it I could even provide shelter for us (if the case was wherever she lives then that person claims her.) I just figured since he already has a child he could claim her and I would claim our baby...its only fair right?
Income taxes? I've heard that the goverment is giving employed persons 800 dollars and parents with depends, 300 dollars for each. Is this true? To whom does this apply? (I live in ohio if that makes a difference)

Why are Sales Taxes and Flat Rate Income Taxes not considered as Progressive rather than Regressive? Sales Taxes and Flat Rate Income Taxes should be considered Progressive as opposed to being considered regressive. It is much more difficult to "cheat" on a Sales Tax. Sales Taxes tax only the money that people spend, i.e., if you are in a low income bracket you spend less and therefore your taxes are lower. Flat rate income taxes have proven to raise more money than those incomes taxes which increase the rate of taxation as income increases. Sales Taxes and Flat Rate Taxes have been proven to increase revenue and increase prosperity in foreign countries where they have been tried. The label "Regressive", coined by a Socialist, has been proven be be wrong and negatively impacts the concept of the proper method of Taxation. It has, however, been quite effective as a propaganda tool..
why do i have to pay income taxes on my paycheck? im pretty young, so sorry if it sounds like a dumb question. I just got my first job and my employer says i have to pay "income taxes" on every paycheck..... 1.) what exactly are income taxes? why can't i keep my entire paycheck? 2.) is there ANY job in america that will allow me to keep my entire paycheck? 3.) i heard that after a year, you can "file" to get your income taxes back? so that means i CAN keep my entire paycheck -- but its spread out over a year, or am I wrong? 4.) where exactly are those "income taxes" going to? 5.) do people pay more taxes than others? like does a mailman pay more taxes than someone at pizza huts? and i heard about president bush implementing "tax cuts." what exactly is that -- does that allow me to keep my entire paycheck? 6.) do teachers pay income taxes? 7.) can i negotiate income taxes with my employer? 8.) i heard april 15 is tax day? does that have anything to do with the income taxes on my paycheck? thanks in advance.....

Why not increase city & state income taxes & abolish property taxes? I would like to see property taxes abolished & a 2% city tax of personal income be charged along with an increase in state income taxes. Here, in North Dakota, our property tax is way out of line, while our state income tax is almost nill. Some people want to abolish the state income tax. This would only benefit the extremely wealthy & the large corporations. With the 2% city tax & the increase in state income tax, this should help fund our schools & provide services for the entire state.
How can you cut income taxes for the poor??? Inevitable, on a daily basis, several Y!A users are bemoaning tax cuts for the rich and crying "what about the poor?!" So.... Lower income people, especially those with children, frequently get back more than they pay in. If you take deductions and tax credits into account, a single mother could pay $1,000 in federal income tax withholdings throughout the year, but get a $3,000+ refund. $2,000+ more than she even paid in. Likewise, a college student using education tax credits could also get more refunded than paid in. Etc. Etc. America's biggest tax consumers are also America's worst tax contributors. So the question is, how do you cut taxes for a group of people that have NO effective tax rate? How do you cut taxes for a group of people that pay NO taxes and in fact profit from income tax every year?
Taxes on unearned income? I'll start by saying that I don't know much about taxes and I'm preparing to file on my own for the first time (in the United States). I have been looking tonight and it seems that interest earned in a simple high-yield savings account counts as unearned income. I have found charts that give the tax brackets for earned income, but can't find anything about unearned income. Is unearned income taxed? If so, can someone point me to the chart so that I can calculate it for myself? Is it just a flat rate? Thanks.
Are property taxes related to income taxes? Can unpaid property taxes put a lien on your checking account? Next year when i go to do my tax returns, will my return be affected by unpaid property taxes. Earlier last year a buddy of mine and I bought a house together in Sacramento, Ca and my buddy ended up stealing the money we had and moved out of state leaving the house to go to default. I've received many notices in the mail about unpaid property taxes- and I am worried because I cannot pay them- if when I go to do my income taxes to get a return if the unpaid taxes on my property will affect my income tax returns? Will I have to owe?? Please give me a good answer!! Thanks!! Also can the people who control unpaid property taxes put a lien on your checking account and take money out?
State Income & Sales Taxes? Why is it that some states double dip? By this I mean some states have both income & sales tax where as other states have a higher sales tax rate but no state income tax. At least with the sales tax its your choice, either buy or don't by to controll how much you pay in state taxes.
Income taxes a law or a hoax? 1. in the constitution it says you do not have to incriminate yourself however it is illegal not to file income tax return and to lie on one, and you can go to to jail based on what you put down. (unconstitutional) 2. congress nor senate will not show us the law witch requires me to pay income taxes. We have asks many times however they will not show us the law. the constitution says we have the right to see the law witch means maybe there is no law. (unconstitutional) 3. the supreme court has said that the 16 Amendment granted congress no new authority to tax the americian public and if the supream court says it is unconstitutional it is (unconstitutional) for gomanyes562 1. if i say or right something and it can jail me i call it a testimony 2. since when does the Internal Revenue Code over rule the supream court 3. you may have a point there but this is yahoo answers not yahoo attack the conspiracy theorist i mean how did you become a top contributer
Income taxes on minors? I'm going to do some work for TIPS (Teens In Public Service) in Seattle, Washington during the summer. TIPS is an organization that gives minimum wage to teens doing volunteer work. I'm going to be 16 and I expect to make 1500-1600 dollars before taxes. Do I have to pay an income tax on the money I plan to make, and if so, how much?
Income tax and claiming property taxes. Does anyone know? We have bought a home within the past two years, and pay about two thousand a year in property taxes on it., most of the money goes to school funding, I would like to know if we can claim those assesed taxes on our federal income tax. I have posted this question once before and recieved four answers, two of them stated definately we could and the other two said, no, we could not. Income Taxes and Foreclosure? I have a question regarding my 2007 income taxes and a foreclosed property. A house I owned went into foreclosure which I then received the notice of sale about it being sold at public auction. According to the county's website, it was sold as a 'government sale' in 2007. The original purchase price of the house was 335K, then was refinanced at 400K. The property was sold at the auction for 366K. The FMV for the house is 381K. I had 2 mortgages on the house totaling 400K. My question is this, which difference will I have to claim as income when I file my 2007 taxes? The diff between 400K and 366K (Auction Price) or 400K and 381K (FMV Price)? Also, what are the chances that the bank will sue me for the 400K?
Why are we paying Income Taxes Part 3? Last week I wrote a discussion on Income Tax and wanted to see proof of the law? All I got was a Wikipedia defintion which I don't use because of the many mistakes that are make within the website. However I would like for anyone to show me in the US law that requires us to pay Income Tax? I don't want to see a codify IRS rules. In the constitution it says do not tax a man labor or compensation! But somehow I have been doing serious research and I have not found a Federal Law saying that we are to pay the income taxes. I want someone to show me a Federal US Law in our constitution that says we are to pay these taxes. Not some book that the IRS design to mislead us? If You have a answer please leave a website and or other resources so that I can review them and I will write back to you to tell you if I am right or wrong!
Minor Income taxes? Divorce and Income Taxes? Ok here goes. My husband and I were granted a divorce in April 2007. Until that time we were filing our income taxes as married (jointly). How will we do our taxes this year, since part of the year we were considered married and then the other half (though majority) we were single. I'm concerned because I know for a fact he is not having as much money taken out of his paychecks for taxes (so he would have to pay a little or perhaps get only a little back) whereas I'm getting more money getting taken out of MY paycheck (so I'll be guarenteed to get money BACK from the gov.) I want to know that there is a way to divide the taxes so that if he's hasn't been paying enough he doesn't get as much money back/ and I get more money back since I've been paying more. A little history on our divorce arrangement regarding taxes: We have two children. He will claim the 10 year old and I will claim the 4 year old (with daycare expenses, etc). Thanks!
Property taxes and income tax return? My husband and I just bought our first home, we weren't given the option to have an escrow account included with our mortgage company. We were told that taxes are due on or before January 31st. So we have to pay all taxes and insuarnce before then, right? Or does anyone know if we can have them take all of this money from our income tax return?Or does anyone know how you can file taxes without a W2, with just an LES maybe? My husband is in the Army, and his W2's aren't realesed to him until the (almost) end of February. Please help, this is very important. To me at least.Thank you all for any help, or any info you can give.
income taxes??...? if i file as a stundent on my income taxes and worked for 8 months in the year making 8.00 an hour what might i get back?
Damn! Income Taxes? One day, this man, Tony, died. When he was sent to be judged, he was told that he had committed a sin, and that he could not go to heaven right away. He asked what he did and God told him that he cheated on his income taxes, and that the only way he could get into heaven would be to sleep with a 500 pound, stupid, butt-ugly woman for the next five years and enjoy it. Tony decided that this was a small price to pay for an eternity in heaven. So off he went with this enormous woman, pretending to be happy. As he was walking along, he saw his friend Carlos up ahead. Carlos was with an even bigger, uglier woman than he was with. When he approached Carlos he asked him what was going on, and Carlos replied "I cheated on my income taxes and scammed the government out of a lot of money, even more then you did." They both shook their heads in understanding and figured that as long as they have to be with these women, they might as well hang out together to help pass the time (contd. below...) Now Tony, Carlos, and their two beastly women were walking along, minding their own business when Tony and Carlos could have sworn that they saw their friend John up ahead, only this man was with an absolutely drop dead gorgeous women. Stunned,Tony and Carlos approached the man and in fact it was their friend John. They asked him how is he with this unbelievable goddess, while they were stuck with these god-awful women. John replied "I have no idea, and I'm definitely not complaining. This has been absolutely the best time of my life (and I'm dead,) and I have five years of the best sex any man could hope for to look forward to. There is only one thing that I can't seem to understand. Everytime we're done having sex, she rolls over and murmurs to herself, "Damn income taxes"!!!!!
s corp employment taxes on interest income? i formed a s corp and learned that "shareholder-employee" must pay employment taxes on their share of income. if the only income was bank interest, am i required to pay employment taxes? are there any more taxes other than the passive income tax?
son and income taxes claim as independent?? we live in colorado my son (hes 19) had a full time job in 2007 we usually claim him as a dependent on our income taxes, this year he will be filing his own taxes can we still claim him as a dependent on our income tax since he still does live at home.
Unreported income after filing taxes? I just filed my income taxes this afternoon. I claimed my neighbor's daughter as a non-EIC dependent, but she made less than $1000.00 for the year. I did not report her income because she made less than $3200.00. Should I have claimed her income even though we never received any of it? Also, we had one other W-2 show up in the mail today that was not reported. It is only for $57.00 with no Federal or State taxes taken out. I imagine that I will need to file an 1040X, but what am I looking at as far as receiving my refund in time? We are due a refund of approx. $2400 this year, with an AGI of approx. $29,000. Any solutions? In response to Judy's answer, my neighbor's daughter DID live with me for the WHOLE year and I DID support her. So, I did NOT break the law. Thank you though for your insight.
Income Taxes on Alimony? I am doing my own taxes, however I am reporting alimony for income last year. In 2006 I reported my alimony, and had no job, and for federal I didn't owe anything and for state I owed $100. For 2007, I had a job (Made about $13k), however before alimony my federal refund is $694, and after I show alimony it's only $211? And for state it's showing I owe $199? This doesn't seem right, so I am not sure what it could be that's wrong, or does anyone know if this sounds right? Does federal and state take out more taxes for alimony (received same amount of alimony in 06 and 07) when you have a job? And second question is do I still have to report alimony if it was a mutual verbal (not court documented) agreement, but my ex is reporting paying alimony to me? (this is for Michigan) thanks.
Income Taxes - where is the law!? I knew that would draw in the Federal propaganda mouth pieces. I ask you "America" this question Every time someone posts a question like the one I posted above, there are several who come and answer in support of paying taxes with no law. They bring up the same old b.s. remarks about the 16th amendment being ratified and then go into title this and title that. What real American has all this title information? What real American can even understand tax language or specific past court rulings? No American - that is who! What American have you ever spoken with who actually supported income taxation. These people who answer these questions in support of taxation are Federal officers or the like, not Americans. No real American is going to support giving up 1/3 of their paycheck. These people are there to keep the lie going. Saying things like, "Go ahead and quit paying, see how fast they knock at your door". They use intimidation and threats - not law! Wake up The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises That's right - for the District of Columbia Not applied to the statesman, unless you retrun that IRS form they mail to you! Then you are claiming you are not a statesman and the law then applies to you! Big difference - the 16th amendment and the titles are meant for the District of Columbia and certain businesses there - that law does not apply to statesman - Me
Should Federal income taxes vary by state ? The reason I ask..is someone just asked the question... "am I considered middle class with 100k per year ?" Immediatley I thought.... depends on where you live ! In FL, you would be living great on 100k... not so much in parts of California though... Should income taxes vary by state, according to the average cost of living in that state ?...wouldn't this help to keep the standard of living in the US somewhat uniform accross the country ? And wouldn't it help the state to lobby on your behalf to keep your income tax low ? well as far as standar of living...I meant to say... standard of living being more uniform for the middle and lower class. Anyway.. thanks for the answers.... it was just a thought.
Income taxes? I think I need to do taxes this year but have no clue as to even what the first step is. Can anyone describe what I'm supposed to do please? Thank You.
have you done your income taxes? one day this guy called Ari died. when he arrived to be judged, he was told that he had cheated on his income taxes, and therefore would not be allowed to go to heaven unless he spent the next five years with a 400 pound, stupid, ugly woman. Ari decided that this was a small price to pay for an eternity in heaven. so off he went with this enormous, vile woman as they were walking along, he saw his friend Matty ahead. Matty was with a big incredibly ugly woman too. when he approached Matty he asked hi what was going on, and Matty replied, 'I cheated on my income taxes.' they both shook their heads in understanding and figured that as long as they have to be with these women, they might as well hang out together to make it easier to bear. so the four of them were walking along, minding their own business when Ari and Matty could have sworn that they saw their friend nick up ahead, only this man was with an absolutely gorgeous centerfold. stunned, Ari and Matty approached the man, and in fact it was their friend nick. They asked him how he had managed to land this unbelievable goddess, while they were stuck with these god-awful women. Nick replied, ‘I have no idea, and I’m definitely not complaining. This has been absolutely the best time of my life, and I have had five years of the best sex any man could hope to look forward to. There is only one thing that I can’t seem to understand. After every time we have sex, she rolls over and murmurs to herself, “damn income taxes!!”’
Should student file low income taxes? I have no income tax withheld and absolutely no need to file a tax return; however, I want to know if it's better if I file one although I owe no taxes and would get no refund (due to my low income about 800). Should I also consider filing a state tax return (beside the federal one)? Thank you very much
Income Taxes - where is the law!? I knew that would draw in the Federal propaganda mouth pieces. I ask you "America" this question Every time someone posts a question like the one I posted above, there are several who come and answer in support of paying taxes with no law. Wake up The taxation is o.k. but only in the District of Columbia It does not apply to the statesman - unless you return that form the private owned IRS sends to you - then you give up your rights as a statesman. I am a statesman How do 12,000,000 illegals get away with not paying income taxes. Why do they have more rights than American born citizens. Shouldn't the Federal Government go after those tax evaders who crossed illegally and broke the law to come and work and pay no taxes. They have broken two laws, but who goes after them - no one! But yet a couple in N.H. has been surrounded for months by Federal officers and had all their power and untilities cut off. Does that make sense to you!?
Question about income taxes.? Would everyone like to do away with Income taxes ? How ? A fifteen percent sales tax on every dollar spent in this country or sent out of this country. This makes sure that EVERYONE pays their fair share and there are no tax loopholes. I sure would like to see this put before congress.
Where do our income taxes go when we pay them? I know there are several different taxes. The taxes on gas go to build roads and bridges etc. The tax on corporate gains goes to funding our wars..and etc. But what about federal income taxes? We (Americans altogether) pay out out TRILLIONS each week and yet we have a national debt and today central banks all around the world put money into their monetary systems to prevent a Credit Crunch...why? Intelligent answers only please and any sites you can show me for more information would be helpful.
Income Taxes havent filed yet...? I havent filed my income taxes yet. I was wondering if I could hold off and file next year (2006 &2007 done at the same time) or do I lose money (due to me) the longer I wait. Please advise.

The Top 5% of TAX PAYERS pay 58% of all income taxes, Is this FAIR? The bottom 50%? They pay a paltry 3.97% of all income taxes. Are they paying their FAIR share? "FAIR" there is that word again. Liberals can not seem to talk for more than two minutes without the word fair popping up. Apparently Liberals really want everything to be fair. But their version of what is and is not fair seems to be a bit skewed to many people. Certainly fairness in taxation amounts to soaking the taxpayer depending on how much they earn. Liberals oppose all tax codes, which would truly be fair. Flat taxes, where everyone pays the same rate? Liberals do not like those. Consumption taxes, where again everyone is taxed in a balanced fashion? Liberals dislike that system as well. In fact, the only "fair" tax code to liberals appears to be one which punishes success, and takes way too much of Americans hard earned money and places it in the hands of government. Are income taxes unconstitutional? I saw some television show and have also heard about a book that tells how income taxes are unconstitutional. I havn't gotten around to reading it but if someone is familiar with this could you briefly explain the logic or facts behind this argument. Also, if it's true why is our country not goign crazy about this?
ATTN TAX PROFESSIONALS: What is the best way to file US income taxes from overseas? I was delaying my move date till February so I could file before I go, but is there a way to get W2's online and file online? I can buy and install H&R Block's Tax Cut which will allow me to prepare my own taxes and e-file, but my main concern is getting my W2's. I don't want to risk having them sent to an international address for obvious reasons (unreliable mail service, slow delivery, lost mail, etc...) Also, what are the requirements for filing taxes in subsequent years in which no income is earned in the Unites States. I am planning to live and work overseas for at least 5 or more years.
Ron Paul abolishes income taxes? I do not agree with the abolisment of income taxes. I think this will slow the recovery of the country. It will bring india's roads to america will it not? Are not income txes a big part of fixing things?
State income taxes due.? My state income taxes are due on Apr 15th. Does that mean that they must recieve my payment by then or that it must be postmarked by then?
Federal income taxes? Can somebody find the IRS statute that says you have to pay federal income taxes. The 16 admendment was never ratified. RESEARCH YOUR ANSWER WILL BE SURPRISED. What the law professor didn't explain was 26 usc 7201 of the IRS code is a penlty code and does not levy any duties. So try again.
Why not base taxes on assets rather than income? It seems that a major function of government is to protect the assets of the people and the environment that provides that security and free market capitalism. Why not base taxes on assets rather than income? Taxing income is penalizing industrious hard work, while taxing assets would encourage a stewardship towards one's assets.
is PILT (payment in lieu of taxes) income tax deductible? The condos in building James Monroe (45 River Drive S, Jersey City, NJ 07310) have PILT (payment in lieu of taxes) instead of property taxes. Can anyone please tell me if this is tax deductible? As I understand, if you pay property taxes, you can claim that while filing income tax, but I don't think that is true with PILT. Please clarify my doubt.
